Very cool and so much fun to watch. This is the first time I've watched a GvG video with the chat included and it's interesting and informative to listen to them strategize and count down for spikes.

Thanks so much for this.

Awesome video, very nicely made, superb quality. I will probably need to watch it 10 times to be able to begin to start to see though the action, but it's observer mode's "save as" feature!

Ty Chop chop and Rawr.

Question: what's "MB up"? I first thought it was "Morale Boost coming" but it's repeated too often.

He is probably saying 'envy up' which means anthem of envy is ready/going to be used.

Curious, they call spikes a lot but from what I see they actually attempt to spike on ~1/3rd of countdowns.

I was curious about that too. I thought spikes were better communicated, like asking if everyones skills were recharged and ready. It seems like one person is thinking 'my skill is ready so here goes the spike, everyone do it now...oh...you weren't ready?' But I don't know anything about GvG.

I thought the video was pretty cool to watch with the voices being heard. I have watched observer mode but couldn't really tell what the hell was actually going on...looked like chaos.

I think they are trying to sync their skill activations to that all skills actually release on 0.

Heh. It's stuff like this video that makes me wish I was sufficiently motivated to get into PvP proper.

Calling spikes frequently allows for more pressure to be applied to the other team. If your warriors are waiting to unload adren, or your casters are waiting to use a spell, you're losing out on possible damage that could push the other team over the edge. This is why you see rawr calling a lot of spikes, even when not everyone is ready or has the ideal skills recharged. The other players assist the caller as much as they can, however the main focus isn't to get a clean spike off everytime- instead it's to output enough damage where the opposing monks can't keep up, allowing the smaller spikes to get through.

So they are basically pressuring through coordinated minispikes and at one moment the spikes start getting through (as we saw in the end). Interesting.

Weldone on the end credit good.

would be great if we can have video of the same from StS point of view ...

some basic questions:

How do you get that little directional pointer in your u map? (attachment)
How do you get the players list of your opponent to show up?

Now how can we get this video to motivate more people to gvg? I think with this video, Anet needs to think about getting a larger part of the community to participate in gvg more. Maybe a GVG update?!?

I wish I could do GvG, but it's like I get social anxiety when the thought of vent is brought up + other people observing you come into play. I must not be the only one.

The directional pointer shows up on the U map when you're following someone specifically, I think. Hovering over the 'dots' will show you where everyone is. Useful if you're watching people split off and such.

When watching a match, press "P" and you'll get the normal party window. Click the white box and the top to get a new one for the opposing team.

... no, I don't watch too much obs

Just to elaborate on this somewhat... The point in a lot of spikes isn't to straight out get kills. There are a couple of other very good reasons for calling them. As DE pointed out one of the main reasons is pressure. Catching spikes once every 30 seconds is pretty easy if it's the only thing your monks have to do. Calling them more often ensures that more prots and energy are being thrown around by opposing monks, which makes them ill prepared to deal with later spikes.

The other reason which I really wanted to point out is coordination of offense. Straight up damage isn't the only thing that goes into a spike. Rangers and dom mesmers for example typically have very little direct damage to contribute to a spike, so they're usually better off throwing an interrupt at a monk or timing a shame/diversion to land. Coordinated disruption is far more effective than randomly throwing out your shutdown. Spiking often with strong disruption on the spikes is a very very good way to burn opposing monk energy, as they nearly always have to react to said spikes, often eating your shutdown in the process. It could also potentially result in disabling of a key defensive skill, in turn forcing kills or a wipe. Spikes are also a good opportunity for even your monks to coordinate removal in order to force more pressure.

Basically, unless you're running a dedicated spike like Omega, then the best way to go about killing the opposing team is to burn their monks energy, and that will not happen if you wait 30 seconds between every spike for meteor (or whatever) to come up.

This is a really nice video though, and it really shows off the level of coordination needed to be successful in GvG. From the responses in this thread this sort of thing seems very helpful bridging the gap between low pvp/pve and high end pvp. WTB moar!

Shouldn't have the music over the speaking, that's an important part. And where's the part about drawing a match and losing your cape trim? Haha, show the less inclined players that.

Nice video, I guess when you play alot togheter you don't have to explain what you're doing.
When my guild gvg's there are alot more strategic comments ("they're splitting, I'm after them", "Flagrunner incoming")

Surely if you're going to be mad, you should be mad about rawr vs vZ more than that.
