Will there be another august update?

Doesn't necessarily mean there'll be GW2 info, but Anet will be there and I'm not sure what else they would talk about.

I am very disappointed at current support of GW, and now they are practically selling everything on in game store, and prices are dropping on retail boxes. Every friend that has asked me about GW I answer them to wait for GW2 since GW is slowly dieing.

How selfish can you people be? Yes they advertised a new campaign every 6 months and then withdrew that while realizing their mistake. Anet wanted to change so much in GW they decide to make a new game for their undeserving fans.
The Anet team has worked tirelessly since the release of prophecies and all the current players can do is complain about how they are not given everything and that they need to know everything about the enigma wrapped in an illusion that is GW2. Be patient.
For the record: Thank you Anet for everything up until now i could wait until the end of time for GW2. So long as you guys/girls are pouring your life into this game i could care less what you do with GW1(hides from nerfbat).
Tip to all: fill your HoM and shut up.

We were happy with Guild Wars as Guild Wars. That was enough, it was fine, it was perfect. They could just keep making campaigns. We'd keep buying them and playing them. ArenaNet gets money, we get good content, everyone's happy.
Instead they took something that wasn't broken... and tried to fix it. And from what we can tell... seems like they're going to break it.

We don't want a new game. We don't want this new WoW knockoff of theirs with its high level caps, persistent areas, lack of full AI parties, simplification of skills, multiple playable races, a z-axis, etc.

They took something that wasn't broken, broke it, realized they couldn't fix it, so they're giving us something completely new and different. I'd much rather get GW2 than other campaigns that just bring more content that gets old quite fast, and more skills to further break the game (PvE and PvP). A fresh start is what Guild Wars needs. And honestly, I could care less how long it takes. D3, MW2, SC2 and other very promising looking releases will keep me (and many others) busy until the game is released.

No, it WAS broken, the game engine was too limited to allow what they wanted to do

A.Net is doing it wrong. Not telling us a thing but "More info will come till the end of the year" isn't "more contact with the playerbase". Why must we speculate and wonder whether there'll be an update or not. They can't keep with the expectations? they can come here and tell us that. If there will be an update, than why won't they just tell us?
A.Net CR is just terrible, and always been terrible...

He deserves it because he will buy GW2.

Something tells me that the nature of this update will be revealed along with GW2 info. If they are going to release info this year anyway, why not make a GW1 update that links with GW2 in some sort of fasion.
No i'm not talking about the HoM link, that'll have to wait until release.

Wait, let me get this straight, do we, the community, have to DESERVE the rights to recieve information about a sequel announced to a game we ALL bought 3 years ago (most of us anyways), and played during that time?
I thought that was called good MARKETING instead. Alot of people already left GW for what it is (A dead grind game, I'm sorry, it is, get over it), and due to the lack of information of GW2, which at this time can STILL be classified as vaporware (WHOOPS I SAID IT) won't even bother comming back for GW2.
It's only in Anet's benefit to say:
"This is what we're doing right now [Insert shit]"
Bottom line still is that Anet announced GW2 WAY TO EARLY, and ever since then have pretty much (For what, 1-1.5 years now?) given no information whatsoever.
What makes U believe we NEED TO DESERVE this information? By buying Guild Wars one, do we not already show interest in both Anet and the concept of Guild Wars?
If anything, it only seems fair that on Anet's part, they start giving us more information on WHAT THE GAME WILL BE LIKE. Alot of people have the hunch it will be a WoW-copy, albeit with the original GW concept, whereas others believe it will blow the MMO scene away. (Like GW did)
Patience is a virtue, but with 1.5 years of waiting under our belts, aswell as nearly NO content releases in Guild Wars, I do think more and more people are leaving the scene every day/week with the mindset of: "Fcuk it, I'm not gonna wait any longer for a game which I might or might not like, I'll just go play Aion (Insert other game if you want) instead."
And then by the time GW2 comes out, those people will already have been rooted into the other games, they won't bother buying GW2.
Again, not saying they will loose ALL their customers, just saying that it's doing them no good giving us the silence treatment...

there is actually no reason ANet should update gW1, they will, but theres no reason why they should and certainly no reason any of us deserve it |
BUT since they announced they're going to update the game every 4 months, it would be very nice to know whether they ARE or AREN'T going to give us this update.
I don't have to deserve anything. I bought this game because it was fun, and it still is fun sometimes. CR has nothing to do with the game itself. Bad CR can make ppl leave, and a bad game can cause the same. There's no doubt Anet is handling this situation VERY VERY BAD. This makes ppl leave the game, or be unsatisfied with Anet, which is bad for business. I want you to imagine a situation. You're given the ability to make a load of people satisfied, with little to no drawback. What will you do?

Dont you think advertising a game with the line "WITHOUT ANY SUBSCRIPTIONS" or "BIG CONTENT UPDATES EVERY 6 months" and then changing your mind and not making any content updates because there are no subscriptions is a bitch move?
Because yea,if GW had subs in no way ever would they stop giving content updates to it because of GW2.
So basicly this is telling me they arent a company they said they are.
All the "we care about our fanbase and players" was bullshit, they only care about money...
Of course this isnt directed to Anet, more like at NCSoft(because they actualy decide about stuff like this)

Perhaps. Then they shouldn't announce updates, and I won't complain that they won't tell us anything about the updates that don't exist. Simple.

Not only that, but they have stated in MANY interviews why they changed pace and I'm not repeating them when you heard it yourself...

Now wait a minute, they said MAYBE 3/4 months between updates and they also stated they wouldn't always be as big as the April update anyway (as that took the best part of 6 months to build) and your also right, CM's have nothing to o with the game, but they also can't tell you anything about the game or any upcoming updates if they have no info to give you, however knowing Linsey and the Live team, as soon as they have details they will plaster them all over Facebook, Twitter and the GW main page for all to see

You see, the bold part is where Anet fails. If there's no info, such as in no new update, they can say that there's no update. It won't satisfy the playerbase but holding to this fact for several months will only make things worse...

how can there be info when theres nothing to have info about?
Yoom Omer
not info, but facts. If there's no info, regina could stumble here weeks ago and tell us that there's no update clean & simple. They fail to see that holding us for so long won't do any good to them.

Initially it was never meant to be a play all the time game unless you were massively into PvP... so do what ANet where happy for you to do4 years ago, enjoy the game, then play something else and come back when you want

They should increase the level cap to 100, yes, in GW1. And sell some double exp packs for 5$.
Now, seriously, I was (I am) waiting a major update for this month, we are at time of the promise they did.

My guess is that their silence means something big, but it won't be at this month. Maybe announced at PAX?
The last update in this quarter is the mox update. And Mox was in september, correct me if I'm wrong. But I'm sure it was in this quarter.

I think if there was going to be a "big" update this month, we would have heard about it by now.

why do people think these content updates will rejuvenate the game and the overall experience and make it feel like playing it for the first time? these updates aren't meant to be free expansions or addons, just oil for old gears. some new stuff may be added, and many of these things are given later because the community wants it.
this is a service. a service to the fans because anet wants to polish the game even after its long history, because they love their game. don't hold your breath. if you are fed up with the game, no upcoming update will give you more than two hours of satisfaction. play the game for what it is and not for what you'd like it to be.

As for the August update, Regina clarified that they would be every 3-4 months and not "quarterly" updates. The last big content update was the 4th anniv update on April 23rd. Four months after exactly is August 23rd and if there is no major content update by then, I will not be surprised in the least as it is simply another indication of the pattern of let-downs and failed promises (oh wait, that would mean they're official OK then, failed "goals").
Personally, I dont give a sh** about the content update, but I'm waiting on Anet to actually keep its promises and expectations to the community. We still don't know about this update which they were supposedly going to be "more open about the development process" about. Showing GW2 to the public won't magically erase their past history of failing to meet their own benchmarks.
In reality, it probably won't come until late September. And I blame Anet management for pissing away support for GW1.
