Dun Dun Dun.. GuildCon 2009

Saw that City of Heroes is doing their HeroCon 2009 in October and we all know PAX is coming up but what about ArenaNet and NCSoft doing a...

GuildCon 2009
That would be fun. I've been to some before, both the smaller and larger events and always had a good time. I know it's not for some people but there's got to be a crowd of geeky people like me who could squeeze this into a weekend up there in beautiful Washington.
So what is there to do there? Well let's look at HeroCon:
* Developer Panel Discussions
* Live Mission Event and Contests
* Social Events with the Dev Team
* Banquet Dinner including live entertainment and awards ceremonies
* LAN center activities
* Community Address and announcements presented by Matt "Positron" Miller, and Studio Head, Brian Clayton
* Special 'Pre-Con' activities the night of Friday, Oct. 23rd.
Some good stuff lined up there. I know that in Europe they did a Meet & Greet last year but something official would be nice from ArenaNet. I know Regina has stated she has nearly a decade of experience in setting up conventions so what a great asset she could be pulling it together. (Why yes, yes I am trying to persuade ArenaNet into putting one on). Maybe it's a bit late in the year to try to pull one together but even a more informal Meet & Greet would be awesome.
So here's my poll attached to this suggestion. Vote Vote Vote. I know we have a lot of euro's and more on the board so I left an option up there for you since I know most of you couldn't fly to the states to make it.

Hooray, first vote for a second time on an Inde poll! Anyway, I'd pretty much be there under all circumstances.
Personally I'd love to see a GvG where you just set up two teams in different rooms and have them play each other, obviously with windows and some audio out into the crowd so people could hear the communication live, maybe with a commentary. Basically like the televised Starcraft competitions.

given anet's forthrightness and the volume of information the CRs have been coming out with, I think the panel discussions would be canned non-information
and with nothing to be excited about, mowing my lawn and doing laundry sound more interesting

And actually, some of the conventions (thinking of BlizzCon here) they save extra information for JUST the fans going to these events.
russiansteven
I love the idea Inde! I am all for it!

Honestly, I would love to go to something like this. I would have fun and I am sure they would give out info.
However for 1 reason and 1 reason only can I say I would not go to a guildcon. The community are mean hateful and just downright ignorant to each other. No respect, no kindness, no just general deceny to fellow players. I wouldn't want to meet another gw's player outside of the few who got me into this game that I went to school with. Having that many hateful people in one place I would be to afraid of being in a fight and getting "hated" on by other players.
Edit: I am also not voting because my option is not up there. The one that is Yes, I would love to go but won't because gw's community are a** holes.

Anyway, it sounds very interesting and I've always wanted to go to Washington

While I will not be there, I put my vote towards "Yes". Interfacing with game developers and staff is always appreciated by the community.

Songbringer, you'll find that a lot of us smack talk each other. This community isn't different from any other internet community out there. I don't care if it's an online forum talking about the latest video card, the car you drive, or what Pokeman you like. This is the internet, believe us when we tell you that most of us in person are polite and not a reflection of what we portray on this forum.
Nessar
I would lurve to go to a GWcon. Although it's a couple states away but hay Talking to the developers sounds fun.
Unlucky Slayer
Only if it was in Chicago, or I had the trip and lodging paid for.
Other than that the only way I'd go is if I got to see Inde. =3

I would want to go, but there is no way I could go. Just too far away.
silavor
Would I go? Of course!
Could I go? Definitely not. It's just too far away to travel for just a weekend, especially during the school year.

I got work and fantasy football teams to take care of.. can't make it! Wish I can thought since I never been to a event like this before. Not even BlizzCon!
Perkunas
I would love to attend something like this. Biggest problem would be costs, getting and staying there.
Maybe run into 1 or 2 people from game/forum, and give them the "ole Moe" eye poke. lol
Maybe make a new friend or two, too.

Sounds cool, but... Washington? I'd go if it was closer. Gotta be able to make it and back on a weekend.
Mordakai
Inde, if you could convince Anet to do this, I would...
well, do whatever you want me to.
well, do whatever you want me to.
Winterclaw
Depends if I could make enough selling torches and pitchforks to cover the expenses of going all the way across the country.
More seriously, I think it is a good idea but I don't see myself going.

It would be tough this year but..YES!
FYI: MMORPG has GW2 2nd of 10 games that will be on top in 2012.
I believe...I believe cackle!

If it's somewhere in Europe then maybe.
Kamatsu
I would consider going, but only if it was located in Australia - which means I wouldn't be going. Unfortunately cost would prevent me from doing it.. but if cost wasn't an issue I'd more than likely take time off work to go.
pamelf
Yes I would, but the likelihood of it taking place in Australia is pretty much 0 so I wouldn't really get the opportunity to go.
KZaske
Next year, count me in. This year, not so sure I could afford to go but I would try!
MartynThompson

- no
Jinkies
I'm in, especially with Seattle being just 20 mins away... XD
Aljasha
if it revives tournaments under human administration - yes man!
JR
I'd definately be there. There's not much quite as fun as a night out on the beers with Izzy and Martin.
I think 2009 would be a mistake though. I'd leave it for early-ish next year, so they have more time to fit it into their schedule and have more information available. 2009 seems like a rush for such a huge event.

I've enjoyed the events I've been to in the past and would definitely go again - its a good way of meeting fellow players (who really aren't such asses irl). Not something to be done in a rush though, if they're gonna do it they should do it properly. Maybe a 6th Birthday event (April 2010)?
Anon-e-mouse
Personally I would love to attend, even if it meant flying over the pond (which for me it will), however I don't think trying to arrange it for what's left of this year is that good of an idea, and 2ndly I don't think A-net have anything to tell us even if it was arranged off the hoof for this year.
I think the far better option would be to hold it in 2010, announced well in advance (so us Euro types can get good air-fares). Not only will we be closer to GW2's eventual release date (even if it is 2012), A-net will also most likely have a lot more information that they will be able to release.
The point that someone made above, about people being different in person is actually very very true. The internet is a great place to let your inner child out to play. Conventions tend to be much more civilised affairs (Just don't have a PvE vs PvP symposium )

Oh, I would so love to go to something like that. Unfortunately, I can't even afford a passport right now, let alone a flight over to America and accomodation. Maybe hold one of these things in England for a change? Or hold an England version too? *gets out puppy-dog eyes*
