The post about minions not going in reminded me about something else that involves Heroes/Henchies and Rangers.

It seems to me that, originally, when playing my Ranger, my H&H would attack anything I attacked. It didn't matter what bow I was using and, therefore, what my range was to the target.
(Btw, they were all set to guard, except hero healers, and I'm always targeting/pinging something.)
But nowadays, after some update in the past year, the h&h won't attack if I'm using a longbow or flatbow, and it's even iffy if I use a Recurve. They seem to require that I get within spell range before they will attack. The only way, other than micro-managing, that I can insure that they will attack is to use a shortbow so that I get close to the enemies.

Is it just my imagination or have others noticed this?

This not a problem, btw, because I tend to use a shortbow most of the time anyway - and that's one reason why I'm not sure when this may have started happening.

(Btw, the same thing seems to be the case with other NPCs that tag along on some missions and dungeons, too.)

I haven't noticed anything, but it's probably when they updated the AI a few months ago with the update that made warrior H/H leeroy into everything.

MM's are always doing that to me so i pull with a long bow, switch to a short/recurve/flatbow/spear for fighting. it also helps to get spears for your heroes so that they are always in range.

edit: PLUS its very annoying(but exciting for awhile) when your heroes minions all run up past you, at first it look awesome(cuz im a ranger when a cast a spell at a foe she sorta points towards them) but now its annoying cuz by then a few are at my casters and my melee is nearly dead lol

I noticed that you will have to call your targets otherwise the H/H will hit something else, as sometimes I didn't hold the left shift button when attacking. Yes, the H/H will attack the weakest point first (monks or Rits) and then offense casters like eles, mesmers, and necros, and then the wars. The mob that you are attacking should be within the radar, otherwise the h/h won't attack him if they are on defend mode.
