i'm looking for some expertise on deaths charge.
death's charge is unique in its shadowstepping ability, as it seems to have several different possibilities of end location. i am wondering if these are able to be controlled, or if it is more random.
here are some different situations:
1. deaths charge to the closest side of your target. this is the usual end location.
2. deaths charge right beyond/behind your target, often this happens when your target is moving towards you, however it can happen when they are standing still also
3. when bodyblocked, it is possible to escape using deaths charge, but i don't know if its due to the way you face, random chance, or something else.
is anyone able to shed some light on the deaths charge mechanics?

I never had any luck figuring it out..seems random to me, but I never tested it extensively.

This skill is very random, I have learnt this while playing a N/A bomber in JQ. Sometimes I will be stepped infront of them, sometimes behind.

maybe its how your foe is facing you, or in what direction your foe is standing. it could also be coded in loads of other ways. or maybe its just random. I've never tested it really.

If you are completely body blocked and unable to move, you cannot use a shadow step skill to get out of the situation. However this rarely ever happens in PvP(usually it's because you're in a corner). You noticed it whenever i failed at running the Voltaic Spear farm or when i'm blocked in the corner when my team unloads their RoJ.
As for the end location, i see no benefit from where you end up, you can only land a crit on someone from behind if they are running away. plus deaths charge doesn't force a player to move away, it's usually KD or slow. A monk who knows what he's doing would have seen the jump.

I believe that Deaths Charge, like many spells, targets the point where the enemy was at the time you clicked the spell or, more likely, at the time it starts to shadow step.
It's easy to see this in Ray of Judgment, for example (because of the big spotlight ). You can see that the spell goes off at the point the target was at when you first activated it, not it's current location.
At some point in the spell cycle, Death's Charge picks a target point. It's possible though, that the target moved from there. It's also possible that Death's Charge picks a series of points to get close to the target, but that would influence the side of the target in ends on.
I certainly wouldn't know for sure, it's just a theory, but I can usually predict where I'll end up at. Or, to put it another way, I consistantly end up where I would expect, given target movement, etc.
