Farming: Profession-locked or able for all?
Aslyum beast
Now, im not really a PvE player as much, but i have noticed that most farming locations nowadays seem to be profession-locked, with people only running Monks, Assassins, and rangers. Would you agree that these days in Guild wars, most PvE activity revolve around these 3 professions? discuss.

While it is true that certain professions are definitely able to farm more areas and some are better at it than others, every profession has at least one decent farm. For example, some people say Warriors are bad at farming, and many laugh when they see a Warrior raptor farming, but the build I use farms approximately twice as fast and twice as efficiently as any other raptor farm build that I have come across.
And of course there is the Perma-SF for Assassins that is ever so popular, which has many variations to farm "almost" anything.

while those three professions you mentioned are good farming classes, PvE doesn't revolve around them, because pve doesn't revolve around farming. If you're a farmer, THEN it revolves around those three, and even then other classes still have viable builds that can work just as well as any other farming build. But pve doesnt revolve around farming.

There are farms for any profession, but for many right now it is more a question of speed...which farm yields the highest return the fastest. I could feather farm on my ele and make ~10k an hour or I could go run dungeons on an assassin or monk for an hour and make 30-50k.

Farming by technical definition is repeated pwning of an area or mob for profit.
Therefore anyone can do it.
Some professions are just more efficient at certain "Farms" than others. :]

it's probably just me and the people i join groups withbut for everything all i seem to see are perma SF sins, i havn't seen a monk or ranger in a longo time D:, although i try t stay out of all these popular farming builds i'll probably end up changing my chars to them

Personally I like to farm with a rit or elementalist.

Dunno about LA tengu. I've heard arguments for both sides for which is better for feathers. LA maybe yields more merch food drops.

Any profession with 4 pips of energy regen is capable of taking monk secondary and running a 55 or 600 style farming build. Monk primaries have more flexibility for this type of build because they get healing from divine favor, can effectively use DF spells such as spell breaker, and can take any secondary.
Primary assassins have perma SF, but that takes up much of the skill bar and doesn't leave a lot of energy for other things, so other builds may be faster for farming areas that don't require near-complete invulnerability.
Earth magic has good defensive spells and can be useful for farming low level enemies whose damage can be reduced to near 0. Primary elementalists can also do perma obsidian flesh, which can be useful against higher level enemies.
Rangers have traps which can be useful for farming some areas.
Warriors have high armor and stances such bonetti's defense and gladiator's defense which can be useful for farming. In some cases, they might instead use mesmer stances such as mantra of frost or physical resistance.
In my experience, paragon is possibly the class with the fewest farming options. However, I have used a P/W to farm sand drakes, using paragon spear attacks to circumvent the effects of ward against melee.
That said, I prefer not to spend my GW time farming for GW gold when I could be doing something more fun instead.

Every profession has a spot in some speedclear.
Assassin: uwsc, fowsc, almost every dungeon's sc
Monk: fowsc, all dungeons, doa, etc
Paragon: helps to finish bogroot in 10 mins
Warrior: used to finish bogroot in 10 mins or used in fowsc
Ranger: used in fowsc, has many solo farms, can almost solo-clear uw
Elementalist: many good farms in uw, can be used in uwsc
Dervish: many good solo farms, although other professions can yield more profit
Mesmer: used in fowsc, many dungeon speed clears and doa
Necromancer: used in fowsc and uwsc and sometimes doa
Ritualist: used as a support role in fowsc and can almost clear UW on its own
Every profession has a high-profit farm available to them. while some professions make more money than others, all professions can farm certain areas

While it's true that every profession has a decent solo farm or two the op is still right. Except the ranger s thing. If you're farming with a full team of humans then even more professions can help in any given farm. If you're farming with a team of 3 or 4 then Rangers are needed. If you're talking about solo farming then sadly Assassins and Monks are the only classes that matter.
They dominate numerous outposts, can run so much content for gold, and have the highest earning potential in the game which, since we're talking about farming makes all the other classes pretty much obsolete.
Don't get me wrong taking a Rt secondary and spamming spirits is awesome, Ele's have many farms, a few of them pretty good. If you're goal is doing some farming with a class you like to play then you have options but if you want to earn the most gold you can you must roll up a Sin or Monk and regrind eotn ranks.

I'd just like to add to the above. While solo farming is, naturally, the most profitable, "farming" is not defined as a solo job. You can, if you want/need to, take any number, up to and including a full group, to "farm" and area.
And, depending upon what you are farming for, going solo may not even be an issue.
So, to answer the OP's question - no farming is not "profession locked" and yes, farming is open to all classes.

I think a dervish can do better because of some of the "swing" skills when he attacks and can attack large groups all at once doing large damage all at once.
