Character woes

I started a primary Dervish when I got NF Collector's because, well, they seemed cool.

Now I'm looking into joining a new guild that does "High-end PvE areas". They told me they had no need for Dervish primaries. Though it was kinda between the lines, they told me to come back with an Ele, Me, Sin, or Necro.

Should I cease effort on making a strong PvE char out of my Derv?

If they are willing to turn you away based on your profession, chances are you don't want to be in that guild.

That said, your best friends when it comes to high-end PvE are probably AoM and AoD. Condition immunity and hex removal can take a lot of pressure off your healers if there's a lot of conditions or hexes being thrown around by enemies.

Bah, excuse me, but, screw em then. Ofcourse high-end areas use sins and mes and nec or ele and stuff, but only because sins are teh tankers, nothing else, necros n eles n mesmers are the killers, with CoP or FoC or w/e the meta is, nothing else. I'd say if u like your derv, go for it lol, I was kinda like u are atm, I thought that playing my dervish is kinda pointless and w/e coz not used anywhere or everyone does it better, but I always got back to my dervish eventually after trying other ones out. And now I'm in a good guild, one of the very few dervs there, and noone tells me anything bad or something, because I do good in most of guild events I take part of. Oh and btw, if you want to do elite high-end areas, I'd suggest making a char that you'll progress through the game for that reason, and keep dervish your main or so. Oh well, good luck and once again, if you love and enjoy your profession, go for it :P

I pulled together this Melandru build, but I'm having energy issues:

Mysticism: 12 (11+1)
Scythe Mastery: 14 (12+2)
Wind Prayers: 7 (6+1)

Wearying Strike
Harrier's Grasp
Harrier's Haste
Mystic Sweep
Eremite's Attack
Heart of Fury
Watchful Intervention
Avatar of Melandru

I have exactly 25 Energy - any DP means no AoM, and that makes Wearying costly...

Anyway, that was off-topic. I don't mind building a new char to meet the needs of a team, I'll just need some time, and if they really want me to shine, maybe some equipment help. =)

One way to get around the cost is to have a staff in case you die. Then, you can switch to it long enough to put up AoM.

As for your build, where is Eternal Aura? It allows you to keep your avatar up permanently. No avatar build is complete without it. You don't need Harrier's Haste or Harrier's Grasp. Faithful Intervention will probably suit your purposes better than Watchful Intervention (cheaper, no duration, and the healing triggers even if the enchantment is stripped). Consider looking into AoHM and possibly Asuran Scan, as well. They are very powerful skills.

I'd say screw that guild and find another, don't join elitist guilds.

My experience is, if theres no use for any proffession, then they're usually bad guilds.
Our guild takes anything into urgoz hm and still complete with no problems.

Just play what you like, if you enjoy it fair enough, of course there are much more useful proffessions, but just worry about that when you've stopped having fun on your dervish.

Neither we, nor a guild, can tell you which is a better character to play, and whether it is worth you spending the hours on it. Your best option is to find a character that you like, and if it's dervish, so be it! There are many guilds out there, find one which isn't so ridiculous.
