stuck on loading screen
jarzium
hi guys,
i'm fairly new to GW - started the game just last week. i tried loading the game yesterday and i got stuck on the loading screen. and right now, 12 hours later, i still get the same problem. is there a downtime for the servers (like in WoW)?
or is there some bug i need to get rid of?
thanks man.

GW never has any downtime. You sure the client isn't still downloading files? At the first launch it'll take some time for them to be all downloaded.
Oh, and welcome!
EDIT: read your post again. Have you been able to play the game before yesterday? Or is this really the first time you've tried to launch GW?

played a few times already. it just hangs at the "connecting to ArenaNet - 0%" screen. even after uninstalling/reinstalling.
glad to know that there's no downtime for GW!!

This is definitely a problem with your computer or internet connection. As Arduinna said, GW doesn't have downtime. When they fix something, you just get an in-game message to restart the game.

The problem is probably a low net speed. Ive had that occasionally, as my WiFi reception varies a bit.

i sent a ticket to ncsoft. hopefully they will help. it's just GW i'm having trouble with, i can connect to WoW.

Since you say that you have played already, it sounds unlikely that it is a Firewall problem, but with the various updates to windows, ya just never know. Anyway, I would say to try turning off Windows Firewall (Control Panel) to see if that helps.

This isn't going to help, but I just wanted to point out that another is having the same problem:

There was a new build yesterday. Firewalls will often block a program from accessing the internet if it has changed since the last time it ran. Are you sure that your firewall allows GW through? Any time there is a new build, my firewall (Zonealarm) asks if I want to allow GW and the GW updater internet access, even if the old build was let through earlier. If I fail to give access, it will hang forever at 0% connecting.

I was having the same problem at a friends house yesterday, and he was playing just fine right next to me. We were hooked up to the same internet via router. I was kinda thinking it was the virus protection/firewall he had on the computer, or lack of a windows update.
Never found out though. Just make sure you've installed the latest system update for Windows and try turning off your firewall, or disable virus protection.
EDIT;
After reading the above post Im almost positive it was his virus protection thing. He was using some lame thing called Net Nanny. I forgot about the new build yesterday, and it worked fine before hand. But I was never prompted to give access or anything. So if you can, go into your protection service deal and give access to GW or just disable it while you play.

I started having the same issue yesterday 3 Dec 10. I've tried everything described and it is still hung-up. Also my internet explorer will no longer load Guild Wars Wiki.
To be clear everything else on my computer works, I can surf the net with no other page loading issues. All other programs work.
I've run the GW diagnostics and it shows connections & hardware are OK.
I'm stumped. I just joined the forum after searching for answers and finding none in hopes someone knows a fix for this issue.
I've allowed GW to go thru the firewall and even tried with turning the firewall off.
I'm using a Dell Inspiron 531 running Windows Vista Home premium with an NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 card with current driver.
I've played GW almost daily for months (farm daily pre-Nick gifts with morning coffee) and have never had this issue before.
I have done nothing new to the computer to cause a conflict, no hardware and no software installs.
Perplexed.

What firewall you using, Online Armour caused a lot of black screen/task manager only escape problems with a lot of games for me, switched firewall, no more problems!
