I've got two sets for actual "Assassination." My Dagger armor set and my Critical Strikes armor set (for Scything, Barraging, Turreting, etc.).

Dagger set:

Head - Survivor, +1+1 Dagger Mastery
Chest - Survivor, Superior Vigor
Hands - Survivor, +1 Crits
Legs - Survivor, Vitae
Feet - Survivor, Vitae

Critical set:

Head - Survivor, +1+1 Crits
Hands - Survivor, Vitae
All the rest same as Dagger set

That should really be enough for anything in general PvE. Farming is different.

I have 4 sets.
Perma set:
Head - Radiant/Sup. Shadow arts
Chest - Radiant/Attunement
Hands - Radiant/Restoration
Legs - Radiant/Vigor
Feet - Radiant/Attunement
(Alternative)
Feet - Radiant/Sup. Critical strikes

General set:
Head - Nightstalker/Dagger Mastery
(Alternitive for Crit barrage/scythe)
Head - Nightstalker/Critical Strikes
Chest - Nightstalker/Vigor
Hands - Nightstalker/Clarity
Legs - Nightstalker/Vitae
Feet - Nightstalker/Critical Strikes
(Alteritive)
Feet - Nightstalker/Vitae

105 set:
Head - Radiant/Sup. Dagger Mastery

Feet - Radiant/Sup. Critical Strikes

Discord Set
Head - Survivor/Major Deadly Arts
Chest - Survivor/Vitae
Hands - Survivor/Vitae
Legs - Survivor/Vitae
Feet - Survivor/Vitae

Also, you'll want to look into the following weapon sets:
Zealous/Enchanting daggers (SCs, for getting energy)
Vampiric/Fortitude daggers (General damage)
Ebon/Fortitude daggers (General damage)
Cold/fire/shocking/fortitude daggers (General damage with conjures)
Totem axe, or similar (Perma)
Offhand - Q9 fire, +1/20%, devotion (Farming with fire magic)
Offhand - Q9 air, +1/20%, devotion (Running)
Offhand - Q9 insp, devotion (Farming, A/Me)
Shield - +10v fire, devotion (Farming, UW - wastes)
Shield - +10v lightning, devotion (Farming, UW - Mnts/pools)
Shield - +10v percing, devotion (Farming, UW - mnts)
Shield - +10v slashing, devotion (Farming, Urgoz/Hundred blades areas)
Zealous/enchanting scythe (Same as zealous/enchanting daggers)
Staff - Insightful/+5e while enchanted/enchanting (General perma, A/E only)
Staff - Insightful/+7e while < 50% HP/Enchanting (General perma, when using a low HP build)

It's useful to have more then that, but it's very useful to have all of those, although they aren't all needed.

generally 1 set of survivor/vigor, 1 set of radiant/attunement and 1 set of nightstalker/whatever with headgear for whatever attribute you need most at the moment will see you through most anything.

Right now Im a bit low on money so I can only get 1 set atm. Between the survivor and nightstalker's which would help more?

Nightstalker's is good for when there is a lot of armor-affected damage being thrown around, Survivor's is good for where there is a lot of armor-ignoring damage and/or degen being thrown around.

if you can afford only 1 set i suggest a mix of survivor/vitae and radiant/attunement that gets you the health/energy levels you're comfortable with.

Don't run Nightstalker's.

I don't fear random pressure damage; it's the big spikes that have me worried. Big AL-ignoring-spikes, to be more specific. The conditional means that any KD will leave you squishy as hell, denying you the AL boost when you need it most. Survivor's all the way.

Killamus: You would run Nightstalker's, but run Fortitude mods on your daggers instead of Defense?

It's called weapon swapping.

Carry on.

Here's the thing about Nightstalkers: It will likely be more helpful against damage than Survivor's, but the problem is its consistancy. Whenever you're not attacking, you've got 15 less armor. So when, being the narutard assassin that you probably are, you run in and take most of the agro, you're going to be taking a lot of damage before you can even start attacking. If you're facing snares like in the Norn areas, it's probably going to take forever to finally get to the enemy to attack. Also, if say you overagro (again, Narutard syndrome) and need to retreat: Oh, you've just lost 15AL that you had a minute ago.

The reason why Survivor's is popular is because it works everywhere and is slightly helpful against all types of damage, and most people aren't going to want to carry around multiple sets of armor for different insignia (I have exactly 6 pieces of armor for general usage, my Survivor/Vitae/Vig stuff, and two headsets, one with +1 crit, one with +1 dagger). It's not the optimal for every situation, but it won't not work anywhere.

Survivor's is the "Humph, all the other insignia are crappy or conditional, so I'll take this."

Ouch, 'narutard'. That hurt. However, I do respect your well-informed opinion.

I'll still take Nightstalker's. I am not a Narutard Assassin who is the #1 Knucklehead Ninja of the group that can't figure out that when I'm not attacking I have -15AL and thinks that overaggro isn't possible or will just make me look that badass.

Besides, Minions and EVA's can take initial aggro/hate; if I absolutely have to attack because I have hate coming my way, I can swap to my high-hp/defense set and chuck a spear to get the conditional AL, +3AL, and +60hp.

I still have a set of armor with Survivor sigs, tho. When it is optimal to use it, I do.
