Depending on what campaigns you have Ritualist is also an option. You could even go just monk and be able to smite and heal.
Generally you're better off focusing on one trait, either do damage or do healing, if you mix the two you won't be as good at either.

You realize that later in the game you can change your second class at will right?
Dervs are good choice. With Mystic Regeneration tho you will need to use more enchantments but they got penty to choose from that you'll want to use anyway. Don't even need a secondary. They are melee based.
Ritualists are a great choice but like he said its better either one or the other. That's the way it will be with most. GWs isn't about doing everything yourself. Its about your team. With any character if you split them you'll be overall weak not doing either well.
Most classes have there own methods of self heal and are still able to deal damage.
Team wise the better ones are Monk and Ritualists.

Changing secondary professions Role-playing characters cannot change freely between secondary professions until they have Ascended (Prophecies), become Weh no Su (Factions) or completed the quest Hunted! (Nightfall). Doing the Hunted! quest only qualifies native Elonians. Ascended Prophecies characters can take quests to unlock each secondary profession. Characters from other campaigns can only unlock secondary professions at a Profession Changer for a fee of 500 Gold. Once a secondary profession has been unlocked, that character can freely switch between all the unlocked secondary professions via the Skills and Attributes Panel in any town or outpost, or by talking to a profession changer again. Heroes and PvP characters can choose to switch to any secondary profession from any campaign linked to the player's account*. |

just outside the box - but could do the job you wanted without sacrificing your second profession!
or run an order :P d/n heals and buffs your team - and when you want to kill run a wounding strike derv :P
<<< just a thought you may not have considered
BEST ADVICE GOING: PLAY EACH PROFESSION AND SEE WHICH YOU LIKE!

Sounds like if you want to be able to heal and do a disgusting amount of damage then the Dervish is for you.
However....they get boring.

In my opinion you should try a Blood Necro. I started out with that when I started playing Necro and I liked it a lot. Every skill you used has potential of gaining you health. That or possibly a Ritualist or Dervish like people stated above.
You should try Blood Necro... I would advice forgetting the secondary profession to try and get heals from and look for a primary profession that has skills that provide healing. That is your best bet.
