Items and their in-game value
Red Apple
Hello everyone,
Lately I have been troubled by the lack of space in my account, all of my characters are holding many gold weapons and now being unable to hold them any longer I would like to know some tips for pricing the items and be able to finally get rid of them.
Most of my golds come from far back to the 55 griffon farming, I have read about some items like shields that can have a double bonus effects as the pre-inscription system is still on it, is it possible? for how much would the price go if so? are other items (swords, axes, staffs) the same way? are they valuable?
what pointers should I look when pricing an item?
Could somebody explain to me whether something could be called "High-end" (obviously aside of the skin factor) and what would be a common item. I have read some of the topics on Ventari Forum but I still quite don't get how to price a whole item. What factors make an item pricey and so so are what amuse me.
Posts like this make me go "What?", I don't understand why they cost so much Click Here.
An example of what kind of "rareness" I'm talking about here is this example:
I have a 16 armor shield with req 10 tactics and has a weird mod of 19% chance of +1 Divine Favor while casting skills +30 health. I remember when I got it, I was "Wth?".
Is it valuable? How should I look at this kind of items to price them?
Is it possible for a shield to have -3 dmg when enchanted and -4 dmg when hexed at the same time? Just wondering...
I just want to sell my stuff, not getting abused and not abusing people's wallets. If anyone could help me I would be so thankful.
I hope I can get an answer,
thank you all in advance.

Well... there's very few skins left that are expensive just for the skin - most of them are from the zchest, fow/uw chest, design a weapon skin etc. So you'd be looking for something that's expensive because of the mods. Basically, anything that's max (armor 16 for shields, energy +12 for focus, etc etc) but req8 would be worth something, depending on what other mods it has. Dual modded shields may be - usually they have to be max mods or close to it, in something useful. If you're not sure, make a post in the price check forum, list the skin and mods, and see if anyone responds.

Well, now a days it's the weapon skin > damage/defense.
Those items are unique but it vastly depends on the buyer. People seeking one of a kind weapons, yes, with a common skin, no.
It's like selling Dye Remover, completely useless in every way. But a handful of people crave one of a kind items.
You shields are not high end sadly, but if you find a rare hunter you just struck gold.

I saw one of these old majors (a blue major -50 health) in sell/high end this morning. S/B (starting bid) was 100k, all of it purely for collector interest.

Some of it will have value, some of it will not.
Post a thread in the PC forum, note that these can often to cheap or expensive, but it can give an idea of the value or your items.

The only thing that makes something valuable is the, for lack of a better word, e-peen value. Common sense says that since all of the weapon types and shields are in balance with eachother, like there is no particular "best" as far as stats go, that rarity would determine the price. But that's not it at all.
Look at the Bone Dragon Staff. There's more of these on the market than any other weapon in GW at the moment, yet even though they're so easy to get they remain at absurd prices.
Given there are some rare things (like canthan shields that don't come inscribable with low reqs and decent inherent mods) that are actually worth a lot, most things that are unique or pretty rare remain worthless. Dragoncrest axes, pronged fans, morning star axes, and the shield you found for example.
It's got to either be an item that's "in" or something a collector would have interest in for you to really strike gold.

Thank you all for the feedback, it is awkward for me to hear that most people are just looking for neat stuff instead of efficient weapons, whatever floats your boat I guess.
As far as I can tell with these responses it would be a bad idea to sell all the items in a quick tandem, as there is no easy way to glance over the correct price. I might split the items in weapon groups to sell them and be patient about it.
Thank you all for your suggestions.
If anyone has something still unsaid I would kindly welcome any new replies.

This isn't the case. Max equipment is practically free once you've been playing for a few months. For example, an optimal sword and shield can be gotten for about 2-5k if you use collectors and buy mods cheap. I generally never farm, but from just doing quests and the like I've got roughly 1000k. There isn't anything to spend all that cash on other than looking good, art, or random collectable things (such as the blue -50 major rune I mentioned earlier).

Some of the things are useless but have insane value, some items are godly but aren't worth squat just because of the skin. It's nonsense, and that ruins the trading system in the game.

Right.
Take your "max" weapons and off hands and equip your hero's with the best stats you can get your hands on.
Then just sell the rest of the stuff. Somewhere on this guru is an OLD Price list for Mods and such.
Having studied that for a while I only keep the things over 2K value and the rest I merchant. Like, the Prod staff. I have gotten 100's of them running chests at Borial Station for my Lucky/treasure hunter titles. The req 9 staff will take me months to sell so I merchant them without a second though. However, if I get a Health + 30 or a Icy I will salvage them. When I get enough of them, I will waist a night of farming chests and sit in an outpost trying to sell the "max" mods.
Your shield has a H+30 mod and that is worth some gold. If you want a fast sale sell for 2K if you want a longer sale time go for 5K
If you get a Forget Me Not - the most valuable mod in the game by a mile - and want a fast sale just post here for 20K buy-out as I did last week. I put up a 2 day auction and it went to buy out in less than one day. If I wanted the market value I would have put it up for a week and then had a buy out at 25K (its actual value)
So leave room for the "traders" to make a profit and you will sell items faster.
remember Prices fluctuate on a weekly if not daily basis.

So, this means that the only thing that makes a weapon more valuable is the rarity/desirability of the skin (look). Certain weapon mods are worth something, but mostly only max mods. (Again, check wiki for what is max for a particular mod.)
You're best bet is to check the Price Check forums and Guru Auctions to see what skins and mods are valuable. Some of the listings there are a bit out of date, and prices for the less rare (uncommon) stuff, are heading down constantly now that the game is getting a bit stale.
Any that you are not sure of, or you want to get a better idea of, you can post in the Price Check forum to get an idea. Basically, 99% of what you find will be merchant fodder.

You may be having some really valuable items there, for example dual reduction (-2/-2 or -2/-3) shields or most low req (8 or 7) items are worth serious money. There are also many other potential goods you may have there, like some odd mod combinations not possible to be copied under the inscription system, those may be hard to sell but there are collectors (like myself) who like them.
