Limit on Rune Placements?

I've been trying to boost my Assassins Shadow Arts attributes but it maxes out. I've got aMinor Dagger Mastery and Minor Critical Strikes on my mask, a Major Shadow Arts on my chest armor, and a Minor Critical Strikes on my arms. I tried placing a Minor Shadow Arts on my legs but my attributes weren't boosted. Is there a cap on how many runes can be used?

Those Runes don't stack. You are getting no benefit from your extra Minor Critical Strikes, and you won't get any extra benefit from a second Shadow Arts either. The only way to increase your Shadow Arts with Runes, would be to replace your Major Shadow Arts with a Superior. (which I don't recommend).

There are stacking and non-stacking runes. Non-stacking runes, like attribute runes, will not add up with each other (health penalties from major and superior runes will stack however). A minor and a major critical strikes runes will result in +2 critical strikes, not +3. Other runes, such as runes of attunement, will stack. For example, 2 runes of attunement will result in +4 energy. Read the wiki pages on runes for more info.

Stacking Example: If you attach a Rune of Vitae (+10 health) to your chest armor and another to your head armor, you will receive +20 health. If you then attach another to your hand armor, the bonus will increase to +30 health. If you then attach a Rune of Major Vigor (+41 health) to your leg armor, the total bonus will be +71 health. (Adding a second Major Vigor will not increase your health further because Vigor runes are non-stacking.)

Non-Stacking Example: If you attach a Rune of Minor Curses (+1 Curses) to your chest armor and another to your head armor, you will only gain a bonus of +1 Curses. If you then attach a Rune of Major Curses to your hand armor, you will only gain a bonus of +2 Curses; the two minor runes will effectively be overridden by the higher-potency rune. If you replace one of the Minor runes with a Rune of Superior Curses, it will override the Major rune to give you +3 Curses. However, you will take the health penalties from both the major and superior runes, for a total of -110 health.

P.S. The max you get can in any attribute by using just armor and runes is 16. You get to 12 by using attribute points. Then you get +1 from a head piece of that attribute, and +3 from a superior rune of that attribute, resulting in 12+1+3=16. A smart thing to do is to equip a headpiece of a certain attribute with a rune of the same attribute. That way, you can easily swap builds and associated attributes by swapping headpieces with different attributes. For instance, for a permasin build you would wear a shadow arts headpiece with a superior rune of shadow arts, and for general play you can change to a dagger mastery headpiece with a minor rune of dagger mastery.

Might as well mention that Superior runes are good when you want to keep up Maintained Enchantments. Switch to a headset with a superior rune, cast the maintained enchantments, and switch back to headgear with minor runes. Now you get best of both worlds: Boosted attributes and maximum health.

Thanks guys. I finished Factions with my character the way it is. I should've mentioned that the Critical Strike on my mask is Stacking. So the minor Critical Strike actually works. I might be wrong though. But either way it shows up at 2 on my attributes some how. I guess I gotta play get a second armor for what i want to do then.

As we said, non-stacking runes don't stack with each other. They do stack with inherent armor attribute bonuses, i.e. a +1 attribute bonus of a head piece. That way you can reach 16: 12 + 1 (mask) + 3 (rune). You have a max of 14 critical strikes at the moment: 12 + 1 (mask) + 1 (runes) = 14.

I'm a bit confused though. In your first post you say you have minor dagger mastery and minor critical strikes on your mask. Since you can't have two runes on one armor piece, I'm assuming you have a critical strikes mask, which always gives +1 critical strike no matter which rune you put on it, and you put a minor dagger mastery rune on it, so it gives +1 critical strikes and +1 dagger mastery. This is indeed the case as you say you have +2 critical strikes total and you say the one on your mask is stacking.
