Acroynms are based on the larger of the population. Just because 20 people you know say it as buff up doesn't make it right.
In the community bu stands for back up. Which is an essence of celerity. It is reffered to as that because before all the sc dungeons exsisted there was fow and uwsc. They use a full conset to make them easier. However, in reality only an essence can be used. So, people bring a 2nd essence(a bu) incase someone fails and you can't finish under a conset.

It stands for backup, because of the large amount of pug groups that need to use another Essence of Celerity after the conset expires in a UWSC.
Its really stupid that they have adopted this name, even when not to be used as a "BU." But hey, who said the community made sense

It stands for "Back Up" - it's actually just an ordinary Essence of Celerity, but some people try to sell them as "BU's" because they hope that noobs will not know the difference and pay more for them. (Or, they are too stupid to realize that it would be easier to sell them by just calling them by their actual name. )
