I know I know. This question has probally been asked over 9000 times. But my search-fu is weak, and I could not find another post like this.
Now, I have played GW before, but that was a LONG time ago before there were any expansions. I come for a long history of WoW playing, but I wanted to quit that and start another game up. I went out and bout the GOTY edition I think, whichever one comes with the three expansions.
Now I am wondering, which one should I play? I know I want to do both PVP and PVE (I loved raiding in WoW, but I doubt its the same in this game.)
Can anyone help? And please, don't yell, I am new

Well first off dont compare this game to WoW, you will get disappointed . You will play all the games because they are linked together so you will end up anyway sooner or later in the other campaigns. I'm not sure.. but I'll just say it. Dont forget to link them together otherways you wont be able to travel between the campaigns. you can only travel to campaigns that are linked to your account
Hope this helps

So you bought the version that has the original Guild Wars (aka Prophecies), Factions, and Nightfall? I would start with the original/Prophecies. Your character can eventually travel to the other continents anyway.

Yea, I knew not to compare it to WoW as soon as I said it. How does one go about linking the campagins to the account?

Add-a-key option by the character selection.

ITS OVER 9000!!!
On topic, I would start in factions because of the shorter (and imo better) tutorial.

If you like a slower paced game, go with Prophecies.
If you like a quick paced game, go with Factions (though, imo, leveling fast in Factions is boooring).
If you like a moderate pace, go with Nightfall.
If you like lore, go with Prophecies and play the games in order (Prophecies->Factions->Nightfall->Eye of the North).
If you care mainly for getting to be able to PvP with a PvE character, go with Nightfall (Nightfall has the overall most used skills in PvP).
If you don't really care for any of the above, close your eyes and pick one out.

WoW sucks ass. I'd say start with Nightfall for the heroes.

You get 5 character slots if I'm not mistaken. I'm just spitballing here, but why not start a character in each of them, and see which one you like. The best storyline in my opinion is the original, and you start in Pre which is before the Invasion. You can also leave a character in Pre which can render benefits. Also it makes Eye Of The North Link together better if u intend on getting it.

I wouldn't. Heroes are great, but they suck unless you have weapons, runes, and skills to give them. Someone new to the game won't have many skills available, and the starter skills for the heroes won't last long. Learning how to make builds and play the game is far more important at the beginning. After you know how to play well and have more skills available, then getting heroes will be good. By the time someone from Prophecies or Factions is able to travel to Nightfall (playing 'normally') they should have a good grasp of game play and a good selection of skills. Even the skills they don't yet have will at least be easier to get.

Every Campaign has some drawbacks so look at it in a way that makes it fun and to learn
Prophecies..........Its a great storyline and lets you learn as you progress
and all skills are free by questing. Yes the curve is long but you can criss cross and go to the other campaigns in Prophecies at Lions Arch as well as the expansion Eye of north as you will be level 10 is req. the drops are not as good in this one so be aware of this
Nightfall.......Yes you obtain heros and they level up as you do.So your heros are a little weak with skills and you also have to buy them here for yourself
You can go to another campaign at normal level 17...unless you pay for a ferry if your lower level drops are better in this one
Factions....This is bar far the quickest to level up and get better drops and gold..but the curve is steep to a new person so.depending on what Class you wish as nightfall and factions have each 2 additional classes
Read up first on classes in the other forums and think what you will enjoy playing.
Yes its a bit slow earning gold ect for your char to buy new armour but hey theres no need to rush.as your new to GW
Eye of the North...the only expansion....you can go there from lev 10 and you will be buffed as a level 20 to play in thiis expansion and you will also obtain heros they are all level 20
to also give an insight to heros ..when you take any char you made in proph/ factions to nightfall /heros will be level 15 when you arrive at kamadden 5 of them
my advice is ..play what class you enjoy its the the most important thing first then the gold and being able to get other things just takes a little time

Another WoW player?
Eh, anyway I'd play through the campaigns in order. Things tend to make more sense if you do.

If you purchased the Trilogy which contains all three campaigns but not the Eye of the North expansion, then you do not have to link any keys. The box contains one access key code for all three games. When/if you buy the Eye of the North expansion (no character creation so requires a game to play it) you will need to link that to your account through the Add a Key on your login screen.

and, I know i'll be flamed for this, but as far as I know, if you want raids, to speed clears and HM dungeons. missions might also function as lesser raids.
