Considering a wireless card

My job has me on the road Mon - Fri every week and while I can usually find 'hi speed' wireless in the hotels, it often isn't fast enough to get decent game response. I'm considering a wireless card to supplement and to give me access in airports and other areas.

The issue is that most of the plans give you 5 GB transfer before they get really pricey. Does anyone know how much bandwidth GW requires for normal gameplay? Anet support said they weren't sure but should be low assuming I'm not downloading new areas and suggested I ask here.

Anyone know how much bandwidth is needed?

Thanks

1. Ctrl + Alt +Del
2. Start task manager
3. Go to the network tab
4. Should tell you how much bandwith is being used

Try this and play GW for a few mins, load different areas, may give you an idea on average bandwidth usage.

My sister has 5GB Bigpond NextG (shaped, fortunately) (NextG is her only internet option). My nephew plays Guild Wars all the time. It's completely playable.

They use somewhere between 2GB & 3GB most months between Guld Wars, Skype and general web browsing, email, etc.

The thing to be careful of is not downloading the whole game. In case your DAT gets corrupted, periodically make a copy of it after playing (and do a -image when you're not on wireless). Then if something happens you can just copy back your saved version and only have to download the changes since then.

i would also say signal strength is your biggest enemy/friend when it comes to wireless, obviously, but i played on a computer with terrible reception for months and believe me it is not fun. I dont think bandwidth should be your biggest concern

I used wireless at one point and playing GW nearly every day I only went over 1 GB one time (in a month), that was with general web surfing as well. The time I went over was due to downloading a few larger non GW related files..... so you should be fine as long as you have all the game or most of it downloaded previously.
