Hi everyone - New GW player here with a few questions
Phalanx114
Hi everyone - I had a fairly basic question. (I play strictly PVE if that helps)
For a little backstory, I have GW and all three expansions, and I've played on-and-off for a few months now, and I recently got Eye of The North - which comes to my question.
I have a level 20 M.O.X, level 20 Gwen, level 20 Vekk, and I am a level 16 Ritualist, but for the life of me I cannot do anything in Eye of The North.
In most cases, enemies destroy my team within 4 seconds or so, and I literally cannot run into any group of enemies without being torn apart. I have the best armor for my level, and I always equip the most powerful weapons, but they seem laughably ineffective in Eye of The North.
Being relatively new to the series, I still have to learn of Elite skills, builds, etc. Does anyone have any advice for a new-ish PVE player as to not get annihilated?
(I began this thread because as I peruse the forum, most of the build talk is way over my head and very difficult to understand for anyone who is not a veteran GW player.)
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks

Do you make use of the henchmen think in eye of the north you can make a party of 8 be it henchmen or other players.
It is a bit rough for me to but ask people in local for advise on certain mission you do. You might need specific runes and insignia to protect against the type dps they do or a good build.
eye of the north you are supposed to be lvl 20 <-- not req but yeah it helps
good luck and have fun.
Post youre build and mission you struggle with so the experts can tell you whats wrong <--- aint a expert myself

Eye Of The North was designed for people who know GW well, I would suggest playing through the majority of one of the other campaigns first. That way you will have a good idea on the game mechanics, strategies and what skills work well.

Level is not everything. You also need skills. While EotN automatically buffs you to level 20, it does not supply you with the means to beat the foes. Both you and your heroes need more skills. Until you gain more, you would be better off using the henchmen.
As for armor buffs, Survivor Insignia are the most useful for both you and your heroes.
Also, read this basic Ritualist thread. http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10245690 It will help you understand your profession and give you ideas for a good skill set. Also, always remember to stay behind your wall of spirits. They will attract aggro instead of you.

I'd also recommend staying away from Eye of the North for a bit. It was designed for experienced players and it's tougher than the other campaigns. If you're only Level 16 then you probably skipped some stuff back on Shing Jea. Make sure you've completed both attribute quests (lost treasure and Unwelcome Guest) and then continue on with the Factions campaign.
Collect skills for you and your heroes and learn your profession. Once you've completed Factions you'll be wiser and better equipped for Eye of the North.

Hey,
like people said already EOTN was designed for the more experienced, level 20 players. While you do get a buff until you're not that level, you won't have the skills and pretty much anything to make yourself a powerful character.
I'd say since those are the only heroes you have; haven't played much of GW yet; and you still don't know/have acess to elite skills yet, you don't have any way to have a proper, functional build on you and your heroes. So even if you take the henchmen, that's half of your party with nothing next to useless so it's only natural that you get wiped.
So, before anything else, you should play through Factions, Nightfall after that would be very advisable since you'll have acess to more Ritualist skills, weapons and armor (when you get 60AL armor that's the maximum you'll need, wich is probably more than the armor you have now at level 16), as well as plenty of elite skills to your heroes.
Prophecies isn't really required since it doesn't offer anything ritualist-related, but it DOES offer the core professions elite skills, so you'd do well playing through it first especially if you have some elite skills in mind to capture. Also, EOTN's lore is tied with Prophecies lore to a (small) extent. It's up to you really, but Factions and Nightfall are really advisable to play before EOTN.

Hi there , and welcome to GW.
GW EoTN is for experienced players , but , is doable if you are not experienced, and I can give you some tips.
First of all , is not all about level or armor level (I finish with an assassin with armor lvl 55 Cantha and EoTN without major issues , even some mission in hard mode)
It is about how you play it , how you tank the mobs, what skills do you use and very important , the health of your character.
I recommend not using any superior rune (sup. vigor of course is fine , more health ^^ ) , if you don't and you have at least a minor vigor rune your health should be over 500 hp that is fine , but the higher you can get the better , considering the Ritualist low armor lvl. Also as you are a ritualist , it is recommendable to use spirit spammer builds to begin with , and try to tank the mobs with the spirits.
Also very important is to bring good hero monks with acceptable healing builds , or the necromancer/ritualist builds that heals.
Well that's it , try to find a suitable build with spirits and tank the mobs, remember to have like 500 hp or more , try not to use sup. runes , use only minors.
Cheers.

EoTN is the capstone to the trilogy, not the latest and greatest edition of Guild Wars. First finish Factions. Cap all the skills you can get there on both the Kurzick and Luxon sides.
Next, do Nightfall so you can pick up your heroes and fit them out properly with weapons and runes and inscriptions for their armor. More skills to acquire in Nightfall. Somewhere along there you can visit Eye of the North to buy the EoTN skills, but still leave it alone until you finish Nightfall.
Do not feel that Eye of the North is where the "real game" is. It's not. The real game is in the first three chapters. EoTN is just a capstone.

First off, you need to have a basic view of how a team is set up, and basic roles in a team. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Team_roles (keep in mind that the articles focus is on PvP, but the info can still be used for PvE)
With that in mind, and the fact that your team is mostly consisting of 8 players (in PvE), and that includes all of EotN, we have a basic knowledge of the 3 different (category) roles one can play (as two midliners can do very different things depending on their builds).
Anyways, with a team of 8, you'll want (approximately) 2-3 backliners, 2-5 midliners and 1-3 frontliners.
If you have a necro as a minionmaster (that needs to be a real player or a necro hero) it'll help absorbing damage as they function as a meatwall, making life easier for everyone.
If you need healp with builds, check out http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page but remember that your own builds will probably suit you better, but it is good for inspiration.
If you go h/h (using 3 heroes and 4 henchmen) having frontliners is mostly a waste of a spot in the party, as NPCs isn't good at frontlining, really.
If you are having problems with a certain area, consider changing your heroes/henchmen to something else. For example, if you are facing a lot of elemental damage, consider bringing rangers instead of some other henchman.
For PvE, and this is really true for NM (normal mode), nukers (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Nuker) and others that deal damages to multiple targets is good, as the mob will die quicker. Oh, mesmers isn't really good for PvE, stick with the other professions.
If you have problem with surviving, there could be low armor that is the problem, but as you said you had high armor, this is probably not the case (ritualists have 60 armor (per piece) as their max armor).
As I've said, it could be that you're not playing with max party, and as the area is designed for max party, it will most likely cause in death.
Or it could be that your team is unbalanced, you might have too few monks or your team might take the damage the wrong way (consider aggro control and protection spells).
Or, the problem could be in your, and your team build(s). Here's a guide to how to make a build (I recomend reading it): http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guide_to_making_a_build
The profession specific guides in the campfire section on guru might help, or the profession specific guides on gwwiki (the one for rits) http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guide...as_a_ritualist
Congratulations to reading all that text (edit: it felt like more when I typed it) Hope it was worth it and it helps. Enjoy the game, and if you still have problems, feel free to PM in game

Also, try using Ogden instead of M.O.X..
Kendil
Phalanx might be a healer. Anyways, 2 healers (normally monks) will be needed in a 8 man team.
If you want to switch Ogden for someone, then get rid of Gwen, mesmers are of little use in NM PvE. Get rid of MOX too if you have something better to raplace him with, but he's way better than Gwen.
Oh, a little tip, go to Night fall, you'll get 2 monks, a derv and a warrior super easy, and also a necromancer, assassin and an elementalist/ranger with little effort. Especially the Necro and ele can come to great use.
Remember that you can use balthazar faction to unlock skills (these can be used by heroes and PvP characters) and if you want your PvE character to use the unlocked skill, you can buy it from any skill trainer in the campaign from which the skill is from, or learn it by the use of a tome. A great way of learning new skills.
As for balthazar faction, you can earn 6k a day from beating the zaishen elite (roll a PvP only ranger or ele and use a trapper or nuker build).

I don't know, I'd much much rather have a Tease Me/Rt than a Dervish hero.

Quick question -- have you got max armor yet? I noticed I always die really quickly until I do. If not, you can get it from the dwarf armorer in Boreal Station for 5 plat and the materials. When I start a new character, I always take a break at lvl10, borrow money from my older chars, and get it, along with Radiant insignias.

EoTN is currently great place for players to get a Legendary Survivor by repeating a quest but without accept the reward after completion
