Hall of Monuments--I want to make sure my charater names are reserved
Mr_eX
Hey guys,
I've more or less played GW to my heart's content over the years--I received GW:EN as a gift awhile back but I never really played it. I'm definitely interested in GW2 so I wanna make sure that all my character names are reserved.
How much of GW:EN do I need to play to reserve character names?

I'm not sure you'd even need EotN at all - it's possible they'll be automatically reserving every GW1 character.
They're certainly doing guilds automatically.

The HoM and reserved names are mutually exclusive. Your names will be reserved for a short period of time after release. My guess is somewhere between 3-6 months of auto reserved names.
Zahr Dalsk
That would mean anyone with an HoM could not have reserved names, and anyone with reserved names could not have a HoM.
You do know what mutually exclusive means, right? It means they exclude each other, and this is not the case with the HoM and reserved names.

You get to EotN about 10 minutes after you enter the expansion. You don't need to play through really any of EotN to access your Hall of Monuments and reserve names (and other things) for your future GW2 characters.

I am pretty sure you just have to have a HoM for reserving the names.

Can you tell me where you've found this information? I haven't been able to find anything about them carrying over guilds, whether that is guild name reservations, leader's position, or anything of the sort. I'd appreciate you pointing me in the right direction.

You need to get to the HoM to reserve your character name. That's the only, again, only thing we know as of now.
majikmajikmajik
yeah you need EOTN and need the HoM, thats why eotn was made....to bridge gw1->gw2......
Jinkies
Getting to HoM as a req for character name reservation is a poor req imo. I have perma pvp characters as well as a perma pre. Names will probably me pre reserved by account. Accomplishments on the other hand will be HoM based.
MasterIceSlayer
You don't need to get very far into EOTN to get to the Outpost EOTN, which is where the Hall of Monuments is. Basically you just need to do a short run at the start. If you stopped playing GW, finding someone to run you should be easy.

can someone post a link to the article or dev notes or blog or whatever that says you need to have a HoM to reserve your character's name? that makes no sense at all since a PvP-Only character can't have a HoM and there are lots of people with PvP-Only characters... for some reason I'm pretty sure that's not the case and someone is just feeding in misinformation about this.

Sure

"The Hall of Monuments is a means for players to transfer evidence of achievements for Guild Wars characters into Guild Wars 2. A player must have Guild Wars Eye of the North to access this feature."
"The hall will allow names to be reserved."

So presumably if you're a guild leader, your new GW2 account once linked to GW1 account, will get to use that particular name for their guild. Or some similar mechanic.
Me, for example, if I get GW2, would be able to recreate my solo guild Reversed Insanity [IR] without concern of it being taken (even though in my case, such a possibility is highly unlikely in the first place, compared to, say, one of the [KISS] guilds).
Shadowspawn X
You are right, I didn't mean to put misinformation out there. I meant the mechanics of each were independent from each other.

[QUOTE=Zahr Dalsk;4864685]Well they said they're reserving guild names, and obviously this isn't being done by hand.
Where did they say this? I have readed speculations about guilds been reserved but nothing is said. I havent heard anything about guilds on gw2 expect that they are there after all this is GUILD wars

Seems I just need to get as far as going to HoM to reserve names.
Thank you!

We can only hope that this is true.
If not, established guild names will be taken by just anyone that is the first to create the name/tag. Asian guild tags will also be a problem as American/Euro accounts can't recreate the tag.

I'm pretty sure they will be saved via accounts that have access to GWEN. They know poeple have prema pvp toons.
any other way would be way to silly.
