Did it say they did that on their free time? No ~ but it also didn't say they did it on company time. So, we don't know, except for the Twitter part, imo.

Delays? Absolutely! I'd rather see progress on what matters to most of the fanbase rather than some new content for Halloween...for that would be allocating/creating additional manhours and delaying all the other projects.

It does seem like they can't win, doesn't it?

In all honesty, I think that people are objecting to how things are being said here, rather than the actual content. Regina's opened the door a little too wide here and hasn't filtered properly. This makes it easy for people to hammer the post with criticisms such as, "So the henchman skill bar contest wasn't labor saving? So why did you do it again if the reason we don't get what we want is that you're understaffed and overworked?"

One could very easily rewrite this post to communicate the same content but avoid inviting accusations of mismanagement, bureaucracy and meeting-filled workdays.

You also have to keep in mind that a lot of people are upset about improper balance maintenance. The dev team whiffed on the R/A nerf last month, and the string is right back as Way of the Assassin because Escape and Blossom weren't the problem. SF has been hanging around for ages with no action. The GvG tiebreaker is hopelessly broken. Hero Battles are unplayable. The list goes on.

The to-do list seems to indicate that ANet isn't in touch with what its players want. My guess is that successfully bringing little projects to fruition like the skill bar contest is what gets you noticed and promoted, but players want ANet staff to do gruntwork that isn't observable to management and consequently gets shirked.

grateful for what? i agree with april's update being great and it gave me some great feelings of gw going into the right direction support-wise. after that we were fed with many redundant buffs and nerfs, mainly buffs which shaked the meta and pushed it towards a wrong direction.

soon we heard of the plans for a nice pvp content update and more frequent updates, but not much happened for 5 long months, upward tendency. now that we heard from bad priorisation, bureaucratic-heavy procedures and a dangerous illness my expectations are very low regarding updates for gw1.

at least we got gw2 to wait for.

ps. don't get me wrong. this is not meant to be a rant and i wish the live team a quick recovery, but this journal entry just blew my optimism away.

anet's live team (and anet in general) suffers from the "making mountain out of molehill" syndrome. take a look at the live team Q/A, more specifically (and i paraphrase):

"when we skill balance, we try to look into the core of the problem. sometimes, a skill is overpowered not because it actually IS overpowered, but the supporting skills around them and the environment. so, we remove those support skills and adjust the environment, and the formerly overpowered skills are no longer overpowered."

the above is the perfect example of what's wrong with anet: they try to look for the magic bullet that's just not there. for example, the R/A template is as old as Factions. people were running R/A with escape and dagger attacks ever since Factions came out. it was never a problem until the fast activation/recharge dagger change. instead of making the easy and simple adjustment: revert the dagger attack changes for PvP, anet decides to nerf escape and death blossom. the end result: people change to a different elite and continue to truck along with the same broken dagger attacks.

i think the entire anet staff needs to have the KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) rule permanently stapled onto their workstations. the game would be a lot better off that way.

Regina; Thanks for the update. Having missed three weeks of work (I got dumb and went back to work too early) due to H1N1 I can understand exactly how Lindsy felt. I hope everyone is better now.

Its your stupid opinion, so refer to yourself as "I" instead of implying the community is in line with your stupidity. And judging your words, I don't think you pay anybody to do anything. I think your mommy does. So next time please tell the truth ie: For all I care, my mommy paid you (ANET) so therefore blah blah.
Accuracy is important. Just remember that when you at some point have to seek employment of your own. Remember also, if you get sick, even for just a week, expect to be replaced as you suggest.

You are making a lot of assumptions about this guy, which are all probably false. I certainly sympathize with anyone who is ill and wish them a good and speedy recovery. However the point is well made, why don't you start pm'ing Regina and Linsey with your personal problems like your health, economic woes and other non game related trivia and see how fast they put you on the ignore list.

I'm pretty sure I'd be hiding out if there was any H1N1 going around, so I appreciate everything the Live Team's been able to do.

Regarding Halloween, I love Costume Brawl as a format and would be thrilled if some of the proposed additions included Costume Brawl AT support.

What I said was not an opinion. Please keep your language level out of the profanity range. I will disregard your message so that no conflicts will arise. I'm grateful that Regina delivers these news. However, you must understand that:

no, what you've said is pure garbage. not to mention, no profanity was uttered anywhere.

but hey, next time a tragedy strikes your family, be sure the invite us all over to laugh at you. after all, there's no need to sympathize for someone you don't know personally now, is there?

We should be grateful that the long silence has been broken, but sadly the only good news here is more GW2 info this year and XTH not coming back anytime soon.

Regina: if you typed in t-virus, I'd go grab some weapons and equipment and attempt to help hold off any assault as you guys work on gw1 and 2 (and an antidote). At least it wasn't the g-virus, or are you infected with las plagas to hide more information.

/RE freakout off

Glad to see that people are recovering. Hope things get sorted out and we can all get back to normal.

Also, glad to hear about the twitter updates, i think its good for all of us.

I guess I have been taught never bite the hand that feeds you. Catching the flu at a trade show is telling me one thing watch out when I go to them or working at one. Wash your hands for 25-30 seconds and hum the abc song

They need...SERUM... Err, swine serum.

Anywho, I hope the Anet team gets well soon. I don't know about you guys, but I'm more worried about their health than the lack of updates. Auf Wiedersehen.

I talked to regina via xfire, she said almost everyone had recovered. Seems my chatlogs were deleted by ccleaner so I can't find an exact quote.

I'm glad the majority of you guys are happy with info regarding swine flu and the Anet staff's leisure activities.

Personally I'd prefer some info on the pvp updates like sealed deck and when ta/hb are going down in flames.

I can only say that they should really really take a closer look at the XTH...

Danm just get the time and get it up running. It's insane to get the Zaishen title without XTH.

Maybe there should be a better way for PvE players to archive Z keys...

When there are RA in Zaishen Challenge I make around 15 Zkeys on that. But if I want to use regular Zaishen mission / Boss it gives me 105 - 140 copper coins well just fine but to get a single zkey it requires 500 copper coins.

To archive the same amount as in RA it requires 7.500 copper coins it's soo unrealistic to archive. So there are really only 1 way to do it as a pure PvE player that's buying from other players. But I don't have 80-85 millions.

Now that's also a PvE title I want it possible to obtain before 2011 or GW2 is released.

Mike has been meeting with other departments to discuss how much support they have time to give us for this. For example, if there’s any new text or art involved, we need to get the help of a writer or artist, all of whom are working heads-down on Guild Wars 2.

Just what I said too, but all I heard was "they won't have to divert resources from GW2 for this dumbass"

If anet really did get hit by H1N1, then i'd rather they drop everything and stay home for a week. that's what you all should do, in fact. the excuse is perfectly valid.

In what serious PvP format are WotA sins even competitive?

There are a bunch of cute builds running around based on the dagger changes, but none of them remotely approach the R/As of old. None of them can pack the same survivability, mobility, damage, and disruption into the same bar.

I hope all of you start to feel better, I have had the swine flu and I know how annoying it can be.

Note: To those of you who think Anet is using this as an excuse (while they may be) H1N1 still makes your whole body feel like shit for 1-2.5 weeks

From a business perspective, the excuse is only somewhat valid, and a pretty weak one. And that's exactly what ArenaNET is, a business.

Also, about the bunch of ungrateful jackasses. I assume you consider me one of them. I don't think there is a ground for the idea that people should be grateful. It's not like we owe them, in fact it's probably more the other way around. And I also feel that healthy criticism and discussion of an employee's/a department's reporting to the ones involved (the community) is only beneficial for said employee/department in the end, even if it comes with a high amount of skepticism and cynicism.

Wow, reading this thread I'm shocked at the complete lack of empathy and utter selfishness of some of the people here (but also pleased to see how many people have stepped up in ANet's defense). While I do have my beefs with ANet ("fanatically" playing Aion sounds kind of iffy, for one), but GIVE THEM A BLOODY BREAK!

I have had the flu before. Not swine flu, just your ordinary flu season sort of deal. I was so sick I didn't even have the energy to prop myself up in a chair and play Guild Wars; I spent the entire time lying on the sofa with a blanket wrapped around me, marathoning Lord of the Rings and trying not to fall asleep. And that was ORDINARY flu. H1N1 may have been blown out of proportion, but I have heard that it is longer-lasting and more severe than the ordinary flu that left me completely useless for days.

So learn what the heck you're talking about and try growing some empathy for a change.

QFT.

Guildwars has one of the worst playerbases I have ever seen in my life.

Things happen, and things will get done when they get done. The game is still there in the meantime. If that's not good enough, there are a bazillion other free games floating on the tubes.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person in GuildWars who doesn't care if an update is late or if something doesn't go exactly according to plan. It's a sad, lonely feeling while everyone else is whining.
