Whoa ping is mad in Guild Wars.

1k ping? There seems to be a problem here. Obviously 1k ping isn't good. Luckily, I haven't lost connection yet. I average in at about 200 MS ping.
Is that high for the game? It doesn't seem to affect me that much (1k did) and I don't drop out.
Thanks.

200ms is average for GW, high for a game, but not an MMO.
A 1k lagspike is no biggie (1 second delay) unless you get them often, if so it may be time to look at getting better internet.

Thy high for the game is 50-100k ping. The should have nothing to fret about.

1k ping? boo hoo. i had 123k ping once so 1k is tiny compared to that. so wait it out like most of us do.
Diablosblizz
Alright, I guess that 200 is average. Good. I guess I'm used to CS:S where it's always 50 or lower. Also, I've got a 14mbit connection so I'd hope that's good enough for gaming.

In CSS you can connect to a reasonably close server, with only a few people trying to access it. With GW you have so many people trying to access it, and depending on where you live, the distance alone can raise your ping substantially.

I still remember the day I had 115,000+ ping. I have a screenie of it here somewhere. Epic.
obsidian ectoplasm
I had 275k once so ya'll bow to me

1k ping is BAD????
lol
I get that normally---though I am usually in the 500-650 range, lag spikes go from 5k to 15k (this is NORMAL).
Bad lag spikes can go from 25k-150k (without kicking me). And we wont mention the 'event' that got us the 165k lag spike.

I am in South Africa, and I have more or less this ^. So yeah having a 200avg (as I rarely do) was heaven. Oh well, nothing I can do about it I suppose.

ok hold up just a second... and lets look at this logistically.
My ping BEFORE my wife started to play was around 75. After she was on the network it rose to 115.
Your survice provider and your network and how you are connected from where you are to where the server is...and back...this is your ping.
Each place you go to on the internet will have a different ping depending on the path your connection makes.
I am with Time Warner. I have High speed CABLE internet. We do not have SOLE Propriety on our connection. We could have it if we paid another 200 bucks a month and then added the super fast internet option. This would cost us around 400 bucks a month and we would get a ping of 35?
This "ping" has NOTHING to do with the SERVER speed as yet as "NecSoft" has no control How we get to their servers. If there is a lot of traffic on the servers then the speed will be reduced.
Example, my wife is a Computer Network Specialist. She handles all of the issues that arise in or on the server including the amount of traffic. If the load gets to much she can add a module to handle the extra traffic.
So, when someone says to her that it took 20 minutes just to log in and order my thing..she is like..well there is nothing wrong with the server. She will ask..are you using dial up? Is your service provider getting overloaded during "peak times"? What package do you have?
So, as you can see..it is not always going to be GW servers resulting in a major ping. Call your service provider or just do a trace on the ip address using the start, run, cmd dos prompt then trace and the ip address the next time this happens.
You will see that your connection to the block buster next door might go through Japan and Iceland before it gets to them..
Proof???

I could literally swim across the lake to Anet, and I was getting 25k ping a couple weekends ago. That night I also got screen shots of 12k and 17k. Another time a friend and I were playing and getting some mad spikes; he's about 160 miles south of me.
A friend that works for Comcast says their is a faulty DNS server or something like that somewhere in Seattle that messes up some of our pings. Apparently there is a way to get around it, but we were drinking that night, and I didn't follow up on it. That may or may not solve my Anet issues. Perhaps I should e-mail him.
