Making a minipet is not as hard as rebalancing 500+ skills,
Facts: already ingame model + minipet behavior exist (templates) + change name.
Done

This is easier, DUMB easier in comparison.

If Anet were to give a Kanaxai or other high-end mini it would be unfair for the selected group that got them in first place.

This was done already for artwork...twice. Don't forget about the magazine giveaway and mini madness. If the big boys were ever intended purely as Asian tournament rewards it's been out the window for a while now. With 3000+ lolarmbraces s/b's they could stand to be further dialed down a notch.

Jeez, no one is ever happy when it comes to minis. Its either 'Q.Q that totally awesome mini has too low a drop rate, unfair!' or 'Q.Q this mini would be totally awesome if everyone didn't have it!'.

Luckily I could care less about minis, talk about the one thing that is absolutely pointless in the game.

In my opinion, nothing in the game should require access to clearly duped materials to obtain. Incredible amounts of time and grind, sure, for the very priciest items, but not something that's literally intangible to the regular person.

That having been said, I'm entering the contest this year time permitting, and I'd love to get the mini. Not entirely sure what I'd do with it yet, though.

I just realized he said content, the first time I read through I thought we was being sarcastic and referring to the art contest mentioned in the first post.

why do you feel the need to talk about my "jealousy" ? do you feel too "highend" for people to criticize your e-gold makers ? (see I can do random trolls too)

you didn't understand anything, so I'll try to rephrase so even id... people like you can understand : "Why is Anet wasting time on a dumb mini (that will end up being powertraded to death) instead of spending their time on important skill balances ?"
Because that counts as new content!!!! Why actually make new playable content or fix skill balance when you can make a new minipet that 20 SUPER RICH POWERTRADERS can toss around in their usual circle-jerk for the rest of the game?

If people pay attention to that, they'll ignore the fact that Anet's skill balances are a joke and that the people doing them have absolutely no idea how to play the game in either PvE or PvP. Hey, maybe people will even forget that there has been no new PLAYABLE content in forever (don't even try to say that Traveler item horse-crap counts).

Anet is doing everything it can to distract people from what GW is: a dying/dead game that they are doing nothing to fix. The more people get distracted from that, the less they will notice that all the GM's keep saying in interviews is that they have "learned from their mistakes in GW1 to make GW2 better", yet for SOME INEXPLICABLE REASON, CONTINUE TO MAKE THE EXACT SAME MISTAKES OVER AND OVER, MONTH AFTER MONTH!

This shit is the exact reason I moved on to Aion. I am SURE someone will reply to this to say "OMG hai man thaz not fair! Anetz doesn't even HAVES to gives us updates! They gots theirs moneys and we donts pays nothings for this games now!" To that I say: Their handling of GW1 to date does not give me ANY confidence GW2 won't end up the same way.

yeah i agree w/ u what really boogles my mind is people with like 100,000e ecto and stacks and stacks of ambraces...people with the extremely rare minis trade them amongst themselves and there isnt really any for sale in the general populace...

Really when you think about it this mini is going to be one of the unique. Only 20 are given away and unless they bring out something else you have to wait till next year to try again to get your hands on one. But think about how many people will quit playing by then. They will have to place something else to make it fair for the people who arn't as talented with different forms of art. Mini pet mania again? At least that contest was fair and 100% random.

Hmm; I'd have to say not.

I'd like to see another such distribution certainly (though I'm still hoping my art entry wins ) - and a similarly rerunnable lottery-quest would keep me busy for a week - but I cannot see it fitting with the Mad King's Guard mini.

* 10 Of the prizes are nothing but the MKG mini.

* The other 10 are combinations which include an already available art book and last year's expo art print which, if we're honest, are likely already in the hands of the artistic mega-fans who are likely to win this contest.

* People who hand-stitch GW costumes or sculpt life-size golems = people willing to make the bazillion runs it takes to get Polar Bear rarity minis, or have a mountian of wealth to trade for it.

So giving the MKG mini away from a quest chain this year would pretty much be defiling the whole annual art contest; heck - if the update goes live a week before Halloween the demographic in question would quite likely have a MKG mini before the results are even announced!

Another Polar Bear model distributed mini = good.
Mad King's Guard distributed by Polar Bear model too = kicking the mega-fans.

No. If they are going to make a mini pet, especially a holiday one, available in game, then it needs to be available. I agree, I don't think it would be fair to ruin the specialness (or the price if you want to be that cynical) for the MKG before they announce the winners for the art contest. However, if they are going to make a rare minipet, I'd rather have it be rare because people actually earned it instead of it just dropping for dumb luck. Otherwise they should be widely available like the Celestial minicritters.

mini polar sells for about 1750e. 1750 ecto prize for art contest isnt good enough?

Some other info:
Monday, October 26: The new series of Halloween quests starts in Lion's Arch and Kamadan. Speak with the Mad King's Steward to begin your adventure! Remember, these quests are only available this year, so be sure to complete them while you can!

--This starts 3 days after the art contest ends.

The bubble about halloween quests also has a mini of the minipet..... but that could be a coincidence.

Dunno. :/ I thought you might have been saying that I wanted to keep the minipets hoarded up for the contest winners and that I was too greedy to want the price to dip down to even the overly exorbitant price the mini polar bears have. Also your post was right after mine and I assumed if you were going to have replied to the other guys post you would have done it earlier since you were apparently on at (and quite possibly before) the time I was.

NM if you weren't though.

One could argue that Pve titles are truly pointless as they do nothing however mini pets hold and grow ones investment. Similar to that of a house. Sounds like someone upset they dont have any?

Except that you can legally own a house, and you know, it actually helps your credit, equity, etc.

Minis....um, yea, you don't own them. Anet could take that (Zhed?) you have tomorrow and there'd be nothing you could do.

Great point. Let's face it, this year's prizes are CRAP. Instead of getting several-hundred-dollar packages of games and hardware like previous winners, the TOP THREE get... a book ($30), a print ($5), and a mini (no IRL value). Whoooo. Everyone else gets a mini and (if you're in the top 7) the five-buck print. Whoop-de-doo. Can't the winners at least be consoled by the fact that their mini is nigh priceless ingame?

Personally, I want them to come pre-dedicated. If I win I'm keeping mine. I get everything I need ingame selling commissions anyway.

On the other hand you could sell it before anet takes that (Zhed?), pile some ecto, and get currency for it.

Oh wow, another Wall Street quant that can't see the stupid assumptions he's making...in the making.

Two reasons that minis appreciated:
1) because ANet kept them limited rather than making tons more
2) because ANet decided to start giving away ectos and zkeys en masse.

Reason #1 can be violated at any time without recourse by existing mini owners. The investment has risk. It could become worth less than the PvE title at a moment's notice.
