Disable PMs (whispers) when you are in Don't Disturb mode.
NeHoMaR
I hate when someone put Don't Disturb mode, and start flaming people by PMs, so no one can defend self. When you are in every mode not ONLINE, you shouldn't be able to PM people (this could exclude people of your guild)
EDIT: Also, you shouldn't be able to change Online status for 5 minutes when you PM someone; So the other one will be able to answer.
[I hope my bad english was enough to explain my point]

It's easier just to ignore them when people do that. Although, I do commonly PM people when I'm in DnD mode, forgetting that they can't reply. I'd be happier with just a notification informing you that you are in DnD and your party can't reply. That doesn't help your problem but it'd help mine.
I personally think to solve that problem, you shouldn't be able to continue to PM someone that you've ignored. Most bad trolls ignore the person and then flame them without them being able to respond. If they ignore you, they can't PM you.
I don't know about the time limit for changing your status. I usually run into some moron who wants to spam me in Ascalon, so I like being able to change my status on a whim. I don't really think that there's a solution for your issue, except, just ignore the sap. :P

Easy, Don't Disturb mode could just automatically go Online mode if you PM someone, and you won't be able to go back to Don't Disturb in 5 minutes (as I said)
The thing is: Everybody should be able to respond every PM he/she receive.

just turn your status to offline or ignore the person. anet has better things to do
Muwhahahahahaha Ha
/signed i've run into this prob a few times, and even then it would be nice to have either reminder or something that says the other person cannot reply. also it would be nice if the system noticed you weren't active in the last 5mins+ and auto set you too away. i've accidentally been online and ignored entire conversations directed towards me
Need More Donuts
This is a horrible idea just so you can get the last word
Use your ignore list or set your status to offline
Or better yet grow up....

On Xbox Live if you block someone and then send them a message they become unblocked this makes sense to me and is a good idea.

would be nice to not be able to pm people with do not disturb just so u dont forget that its on when u go to pm someone after having it on for a while.

Why I should use a horse, if I can use a car?
I bet you are one of that guys PMing crap to random people with the don't disturb on, are you? I hope you aren't.

I'll /sign for a message to come up in the chat window telling you that you're on DnD when you PM someone. Don't think I'd want my status automatically changed though. PS: If the only reason you want this is to flame idiots, keep in mind you're just as stupid as them. They WANT you to respond, and you doing so encourages them because they know you actually care. Ignore list gets rid of them easily enough.

OP has a point, DnD abuse is really wide spread and annoying in PvP. People go offline/DnD and proceed to whisper you untill you are forced to add them to ignore list (wasting 1/10 of your slots) or switch yourself to dnd or offline and your friends can't message you.
I've resorted to just putting on DnD when I enter PvP now, because I know someone is always going to get angry and take it that little bit too far. I've even tried sending a report to anet with the conversation included and I was told that Anet does not ban people for private whispers.
/signed for great justice.

I don't really see this as a great problem. However, it doesn't make much sense either.
/signed after we have Halloween, Sealed Deck, four or five skill balances, a new HoH map, new hench (PvP & PvE) with a useful AI, the Xunlai House back up and GW2 to play again.

Waste of time imo.
Just block people back.
Notification could be useful..

Off-topic: It's really annoying for me when people say DnD (instead of the full word), Dungeons and Dragons? lol. I hate abbreviations.

/sign for a message saying your in whatever mode. Sometimes I'll forget to change back (or friends will) and can't message and wonder what's going on. XD Can be annoying.
And I also agree, someone in that mode (or whatever) shouldn't be able to pm anyone if they can't receive.

i think its a really good idea and think it could apply to offline mode. I dont know how many times ive sat in kamadon selling things and someone PMs me and is on DoD or offline mode and I can't contact them at all if the aren't in the district.
Zahr Dalsk
No. Just keep your status offline/do not disturb when in PvP, and if it happens elsewhere, just ignore them or set status offline/do not disturb.

Happened to me once, was highly irritating... A guy pm'd me a few times in JQ, he must have been upset about something and he was on DnD. Naturally, I could not respond back at all.
I ended putting him on ignore for a while and am now watching him on 'Friends'.
Quite childish of the oke. He is on this forum too.

It is true that you can ignore them, but anyways no one should be able to send messages when they are not accepting them.
It's like when a kid cover his ears and do that "Nah, nah, nah, I can't hear you" thing.
Why should anyone be able to do so?
If you want to send messages to anybody, you should receive them too. And also be reportable by them even if they are not in the same area as you.
No one should be against this suggestion, unless they are bot shepherds or little bastards that like to troll people around.

I like the way EVE does their personal chat / trade system, you must basically TRUST someone first before they can speak to you and you to them and even further when they want to trade with you. They even pay a 'fee' to chat / trade with you, especially if you do not know / trust them.
It prevents scamming too, obviously.

I like the idea but what if someone PMs you then quickly switches to DnD or offline.

I don't know why I must go on DnD when I enter any PvP mode, because some moron decides to insult me for whatever reason while he is on DnD.
Also, many times friends try to pm me while they are on DnD (and sometimes are pissed I don't answer them).
Chocobo summed it up really well.
I like EVE's system a lot. I think it should be implemented in GW too.
This has already been answered: it is in THE FREAKING THIRD LINE OF THE OPENING POST.
by NeHoMaR: you shouldn't be able to change Online status for 5 minutes when you PM someone; So the other one will be able to answer.
wtf... Misery, why don't you read stuff before posting? It is a bad habit, you know?
