The following error message has popped up at least 12 times over the past two months when I've been playing or attempting to close Guild Wars, and at no other time.
My graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT, and I've updated the drivers.
After I updated, the error didn't appear for at least three weeks, but then suddenly did today, after I thought I'd closed Guild Wars (the CPU process didn't stop, however, and the window stayed open, though black).
I didn't have any problems with Guild Wars until after I had to reformat the hard drive and reinstall GW after purging a virus from my system.
What could be causing this?

go to www.3dguru.com and download their Driver Sweeper program (it's free) follow the directions on the site, including using it in Safe Mode. Then install the latest compatible Drivers from www.nvidia.com (which you have previously downloaded and saved on your computer). That should take care of it for you.

When I updated my driver, it'd fail constantly. I had to restart my computer to make guild wars not have a black screen in windowed mode. Full screen mode it worked fine, just crappy fps, I found an older version of my video card installed it, and now it runs fine. You playing on a laptop?

Before answering the questions at the bottom, please verify that you have these:
1. All available Windows updates
2. All video card drivers up to date
3. All hardware drivers up to date
Does your computer get hot sometimes? It could be that your hardware is overheating. Placing a box fan at the tower of your PC can cool down your PC.
How long had you had the PC? If it has been 2+ years, its possible the video card is old and needs replacement. Check NewEgg.com for video cards.
For additional help, check Google.

What's your OS? My Windows 7 does it all the time with GW when I have SLI enabled. Highly annoying.

The drivers for Windows7 aren't final yet, wait until October 23rd for final release Win7 drivers that should have almost all bugs worked out. Unfortunately, you will just have to deal until then, because Win7 hasn't been officially released yet.

As for the XP Pro, have you tried the driver sweeper yet?
If not, check this page and follow the instructions:
http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
Make sure you only sweep the nVidia display drivers, none of the others!
