Costume Brawl - Can't wait!
own age myname
Halloween is coming up soon. With Halloween, comes Costume Brawl. Arguably the best minigame (for me) in Guild Wars. Is it just me or are you super excited for Costume Brawl?
Discuss all your costume brawl hype and hopes.

It's one of my favorite games in GW. I can't wait either!

Time to own all those assas and wars with the uber necro build.
Karate Jesus
Hopefully they actually re-balance it this year. Could you imagine if it's the same? Bleh.
EDIT: By "bleh" I mean, Mel's Shot, Slot Hunter's Shot, Tiger Stance (LOL), Healing Breeze, Bane Signet, Overload, Energy Burn, Hidden Caltrops, 20 second spike for the sins (......), basically all of the Paragon build, and the lol e-management derv build.

Yes, I am SUPER psyched for this. Seems like I'll actually get to play some gw this month.
Hope it's pretty much the same as last year. I disagree with all the stuff mentioned in the post above being bleh. Don't let the power creep consume my precious CB as well.

It happened a lot last year, it's bound to happen this year.

The power creep WILL consume it if they don't re-balance. Everyone (smart enough) will just run Necros and Rits and completely butt-rape the arena.

The war bar was ok, but could have been a little stronger. The sin and derv bars were just as they should be. The para bar needs serious buffing. I found the whole thing very balanced and enjoyable.

I'll just hop on the ranger and own all the necros and rits? I remember rits being really powerful but can't say the same about the necros.

How do you plan on fighting Necros and Rits with your Mel Shot ranger build?
1) Necros had Faintheartedness and Insidious....so good luck attacking.
2) Necros had FF and Plague Sig...so all your conditions are lolenergyfood and then sent right back to you.
3) Rits had WoW...so have fun getting blocked.
And the war bar? It had Tiger Stance....I mean, sweet Yahweh man. That's awful.
The sin bar had a 20 second recharging spike that could only kill if there were no healers (which there always were because everyone was running Rits).
The derv's bar was too expensive. You could spam WS every once in a while but the Necros would just go loldervs and send the conditions right back to you.
However, you're right about the Para build. It was terrible.
Rits and Necros were sooooooooooooo OP last year comparatively. It was all half the people ran.

I do remember playing Rits and only Rits last year... can't wait for this year!

LOL at people bashing healing breeze in this environment.

Being good at interrupting. Admittedly the overpoweredness of the ranger template was limited by the player's skill. But you saw alot more of them going out of the international districts and enough of them playing effectively.

The Necro and Rit bars required nothing more than the IQ of the average 2 month old to run. Pretty easy stuff....and in costume brawl....that made it OP.

Here, I'm adding a scale to show you how I thought the professions were balanced against each other in the previous CB: (1-10, 5 being the most balanced)
War: 4
Der: 4
Sin: 4
Par: 3
Ran: 7 then, 6 now with the mel nerf
Ele: 6
Mes: 5
Nec: 5
Mon: 5
Rit: 8
Only paras and rits standing out IMO.

Just because some bars weren't true copies from wiki does not mean they were not balanced relative to each other. It wasn't 100% balanced, but I thought pretty close. Monks brought smite hex for those lame hexes and even though I'm a bad ranger it's not like I have a big problem dshotting plague sig and 1s casts. Let's face it the majority won't fake cast plague signet in CB. Tiger stance is good. If you introduced primal rage/rush wars would dominate and it would be pretty boring. I favor the idea of having bars in CB being weaker than what you find in the common meta. Keeps it fresh and interesting.

I don't remember necros being all that dangerous last year, and I mostly played the sin so they should have been all over me. They didn't do that much damage or that much debuffing to make them that powerful. I don't think things die enough either for them keep their energy going, or am I wrong?
Rits were pretty crazy though...

I'm in the process of identifying all of the tests, quizzes, long and short-term assignments that I may have during the time that it's open so that I don't get screwed with tons of work like I did last event.
Also, I'm hopefully going out to buy a microphone so that I can be a better participant with my syncing friends.
It will be interesting to see what bars they cook up for us this year. I'm also curious whether they'll change the disguises, but since they left those as a constant last time, I don't expect them to be changed. I hope that the Gamer point rewards stay as good as they were last season.
Super psyched. I want to know when it starts.
D-Shot on Faintheartedness and Savage on IP. D-Shot on WoW recasts, ignoring the blocking and hoping it shoots true. Not that difficult, considering a lot of the people you may come against in the arena like to cast on recharge.

There are two kind of events in GW:
1. the one where you stand in a circle and the game plays itself.
2. the one where you don't.
I am guessing this is one of those "don't"-events?

I would probably be more excited if I knew they were going to change the Para build...if they don't I may not be happy with it...I main a Para and I know what builds will and will not work. If they keep the same builds...it's going to be horrible. The Para costume brawl build was just so bad.
Iotan
I remember the optimal build last year was 2 rits, a monk and then some sort of damage. Rits were OP last year and the reason I was able to get a bunch of 20+ streaks.
Would be nice if they balance it a bit. They probably will, as the builds have changed (historically) from year to year.

Honestly I know exactly what you're saying In my opinion its the best mini game gw has to offer and have been eagerly awaiting it the past month. I keep thinking "Ooh what will the builds be?" or "Omg I can't wait to get a shitton on gamer points for doing something fun ! DD"
garethporlest18
Gamer points=good. But the best mini game is Dragon Arena. I wish it gave just as much gamer points because it's so damn fun.
But yeah I am looking forward to costume brawl because of the gamer points and it is the second most fun event. I can't stand snowball arena.
I also hope the skills are new this year.
Oh and one last thing, last year when doing this on one of my pretty long consecs we had a match where we won by 1 second. They had more shrines and we were killing them, we ended up killing the last guy when their bar would have finished giving them the winning point. It was within 1 second, very very close.

last year's bars were pretty decent all around, imo. they were all powerful when used properly, and were clearly grabbed from the pvp meta (at the time). tiger stance sucked, but i think your average joe warrior would have just gotten himself blown up too much with frenzy. i could see that even being abused to throw games.
i don't recall feeling like my losses were due to team/bar imbalances, at any rate. 50+ win streaks were quite common for me, and were accomplished even with "crappy" dervs and paras on the team. the whole reason i love CB so much is because skill is by large what wins the matches.

Last year was last year. Some builds are always going to overpower another. Nercos usually have an antimelee hex, without it CB would run rampant with melee killing your teammates. But, I do agree with Rits being slightly OP, but this is a new year. With a new year of CB, comes new builds.
Still can't wait! 8 days left!

Ye, i remember this, great fun, 50+ win streaks were very common.
I also remember that certain builds, ahum, ranger and especially rit, were so insanly overpowered it was not funny anymore.
I believe our best streak was with 1 ele, 2 rit and 2 ranger........totally imba.
