The secondary you'll chose is always dependent on what build you're running and what skills you want (if you want) to use, and how well they'll synergize.

Honestly, you're better off telling us what you're looking for and trying them ingame perhaps. Assassin, Warrior, Mesmer, Elementalist are way different from each other so the roles they can perform vary as well.

lol mesmur. i had to laugh at the spelling

but warrior is an all around good pick. pretty balanced class and wanted in pvp while still being effective in pve.

sorry about the spelling haha
i would like a good base attack and defence
with a good advantage over my enemy (heal myself/buff myself/do something to the enemy)
just a few sugguestions would help and ill decide and play it

it all depend on the type of person you are Eg turbo234 Recommended the warrior where i wiuld recomment the Elementalist because they have Area of effect damage and can stay out of the main brawl it totaly depend on the type of person you are

Assassin is a very nice melee class, and because anet decides that they say they will fix sf but never will, you can eventually cheaply own up all pve short of untargeted enchant-removal/damage.

Mesmer is a nice class that no one really plays in pve though, they can be very effective at shutting down enemies, or causing large damage (but they can't really spike in any way)

If chosing between Assassin and Warrior, go Warriors hands down. Does a lot more an Assassin could do role-wise and don't bother with SF because that will get nerfed soon (how I'll love to see the sin population nearly extinct after that ).

It's a pretty balanced class, both PvP and PvE and is definatelly the best choice for Hard Mode from a few builds. It's also very versatile IMO. Assassins are none of this imo.

As for mesmers, they're kings in PvP but not really the best choice on PvE. Elementalists, meh. They're ok I guess.

Bottom line: Warrior. BUT, you kinda of actually have to know if you enjoy playing as a melee class you know. Those 3 classes play out very differently.

If you're starting brand new, I'd recommend warrior, ranger or elementalist as your first character. Those professions have a pretty easy learning curve most of the time, whereas other profs don't necessarily. Especially mesmers... to play one effectively often requires a lot of in depth knowledge about the game, the skills and the professions.

When choosing your secondary profession, try to choose something while complements your primary... for example if your primary lacks healing or condition removal, you may want to consider taking monk or ritualist as your secondary (though later on you'll want dedicated players to do the healing and such so the secondary doesn't make as big a difference later on and can even be changed after getting to a certain point). Good hunting!

Just don't take /Monk for the healing, you should NEVER bring heals yourself other than Healing Signet or Lion's Confort if you really must. Leave the real healing for the monks.

Also, you can switch secondary profession any time after you've either Ascended, became Weh no Su, or completed the Hunted! quest depending on wich campaign you're in (Prophecies/Factions/Nightfall). So you're not bound by anything be it sec. profession or attribute points.

qft. warriors aren't meant for healing so keep it that way.

When you first start out, I would recommend /Mo for a secondary, but only because you don't really need any secondary until you've played the game more. A monk secondary simply allows you to bring a "hard" monk rez instead of a signet - Rebirth being a good choice. But, as Kupp says, not for the healing - you could bring a self heal for emergencies, but overall, leave the healing to the monks (Hero, Human, or Hench), and concentrate on Warrior stuff.
Later in the game (and not too much later) you will be able to change your secondary.
