How Did I Lose Survivor?
TheHound
I'd been going for the survivor title with a mes by doin Kilroy's punch out extravaganza in HM
I got knocked out and in a moment of annoyance closed down GW with 6-7secs on the counter to go.
When i logged back in about 10mins later it was showing i had 1 death. I thought it was because i'd closed down GW but i tried it on other characters and the death count stays the same.
Anyone know what the hell happened?
Thanks in advance

Oh, you can not close down GW. You must stand up or map out...
Closing down is like getting disconnected. You could have logged out and then onto a different character but you would have only had 5 seconds to do so...
Man..I feel for you.
I have the LS for my War. I got it killing snow wurms outside of Borials station. There you only kill the 10 wurms in hard mode at the TOP area. You can not venture to the lower area or the trees will kill you FASTER than you can map out.
Dude..what else can I say.. bummer

Killroy: knockdown counts as death if you dont get up.
Since you closed down/logged out/whatever before getting up (aka you didnt get up) it counted as a death.

if your game laggs out or you close it out without mapping you stay on the pay for about 5 secons. search is your friend

Thanks for the info. I lost my survivor during Killroy's dungeon and had no idea what happened. I bet that's what did it.
Eragon Zarroc
despite closing, ur character can still be there for a few seconds.
My New Name
yes like people already said when you close gw your char stays on the map for a few seconds so the counter actually went to 0 and it counted as a death
bummer man

Sucks for you... logged one day on my survivor ranger and found a death. I know for a fact that she never died, so I don't see how she lost her title. I was tempted to delete her but finally she survived... to the deletion.

Ignore what everyone has said. Closing down Guild Wars does NOT automatically leave you in-game by for a few extra moments-- I've tested it religously with 8 accounts logged in at the same time by taking them out into an explorable area.
It isn't 100% that you will be left there-- more like a 10-15% at most. In the rare occurance that you are left there after you close GW, it simply says "<insert name here> has disconnected form the server" and you are left there for 10 extra minutes before the server boots you (which is MORE than enough time to die in that dungeon, obviously).
While I am not saying you should just close it down by this method when trying for Legendary Survivor, am saying that it's fine to do it by this method if you don't mind the very very small risk of d/c'ing.
As for what this guy said... Well... That is not true at all. I've tested this as well by letting myself get KO'ed and by logging off and I never got a death towards myself once I logged back in within the next 10-20 seconds.
Overall: Bad luck that you just so happened to get a DC on that ONE time that you closed Guild Wars.

I am really sorry to hear about your loss of survivor title status. That stinks.
That being said, it was never an issue for me as I was killed by River Skales numerous times in Pre-Searing and just about everything else after that.
(Why do you think I chose Arwen in mourning for my avatar?)
Is there a title for the most deaths?

Yes you died ........
Try to do it doing survivor in missions that saves you button mashing and learns you a little

USUALLY when you close GW, it cuts your connection...in this rare circumstance it regarded you as disconnected rather then logged off, those 6-7 seconds counted down and you were then considered dead. When going for the survivor title try not to just close down GW where your character may not be safe.

For survivor, instead of closing GW I'd suggest exiting the game by pressing F12 then Enter.

That's somewhat how I lost survivor on my derv. Got k/oed in kilroy, closed the game, but instead of the gaming closing automatically, it lagged for about 8 sec. So I lost survivor.
Like others have said, it was just bad luck.

and the percentages? what a joke, you think servers and computers are slotmachines? they do what they are programmed to do, not the random percentage of "you are going to die here, but i'll give you some luck and just disconnect you".

Ignore what he/she said, GW acts so it will keep your character for a little while, if you lose connection for a few seconds it will keep you in there at serverside. if this connection is reestablished (relogging) it will reset this connection so it knows nothing has gone wrong.

ON-topic. You are a complete idiot. I get my FACTS off or TESTING it with 8 of my accounts. I have personally RELIGOUSLY tested this with easily over 5 hours invested into it.
As I said. You are a complete idiot and you need to stop stalking me. End of story. I am right. You are wrong. Troll more.
In case you're too simple to understand what was just said, I will break it down to something even you will understand: eye testid da kannection of clothing gild wors wit all ate uf mi akounts and gawt all mi stutistecks frum dat.
Better? I hope so. G'day.

I agree with Lena here. Having gotten LS on more than 6 characters now, I have never had problems with closing GW when near death. It gets me out instantly, it must be indeed a rarer occurance of getting a D/C while trying to close GW.
Of course getting a D/C is different to simply closing GW when having no connection issues. When D/C you will stand there until you totally drop out or reconnect, when you close GW you get out instantly unless your connection is acting up...

Bah, as someone who got LS playing the old fashioned way and finishing all three campaigns in the process, I hardly feel sympathy for people who lose, what, 6 hours of work when trying to Kilroy their way to LS?
Braxton619
That was because the game is still active when you log off sometimes.

you CAN die if you alt+ f4 your way out of GW. so don't do it. even if there is 1% chance. ( I lost several survivors pressing alt f4, yet none pressing f12 + enter. odd isn't it?)
if you can press alt f4, why can't you press f12 + enter ?

Silmar Alech
Usually, you are immediately logged out and safe if you press alt+f4. I was once in a desperate fight when a patrol suddenly joined the fight, which left me with 2-3 seconds to my death. Only thing I was able to manage in this short time turning from full combat mode to emergency exit was alt+f4. No time to think, I simply pressed the keys. I retained my 0 deaths.
Since others reported that they died using alt+f4, I can only say that I was lucky and they were unlucky. If you can plan your leaving, f12+enter is probably the safest thing.
The game client is probably not always able to send a closing message to the server if forcibly closed by the Windows mechanism with alt+f4, while it is able to do that if you perform a regular character-change or map-to-outpost from within the client.

ALT + F4 doesnt log you out of the game straight away. you char is still left IG for a few seconds, you will sometimes get the option to reconnect to the game which is y it leads to deaths.
