Gold coins
Chasing Squirrels
How come these don't automatically go into your inventory? Why did they make it so you have to run over to ever dead body to loot it?
Xenex Xclame
Simply because they choose not to.This is just the way Anet decided to go.

And, i would assume it is because in real life, muggers don't beat you up and have your wallet magically zoom into their bag. No, i'm pretty sure you have to pick things up to get them into your bag O.o
Chasing Squirrels
No because in realife I am a Necromancer/Monk. Would it not be more convenient?
wilderness
I find it annoying. A move over and vacuum style pick up for coins would be fun (a la Devil May Cry).

i think its also because the loot system doesnt work like that in GW. in other MMO's the items appear in a menu once you kill a foe, and you select what items you take, if not all.
where in GW they just drop on the ground. you dont have to roll a dice or anything like that to see who gets the loot inside a group
Black Metal
there's a bindable command, target closest loot (or something like that), so you don't have to hunt visually then click on it

;+space.

Yes. The ; button will select the nearest item, just like c will target the nearest hostile target. Space will perform the default action to the selected target, which is pick up for items and attack for hostile targets.

Yep ;+space is the fastest way to collect items from farms and general gameplay.
Also, the reason it isn't automatic is it could be exploited for farms. Killing mobs at range/through a wall and automatically get stuff is bad. Heck, this is the reason the VSF run works (since the wall disappears after you kill the guys).

The only reason some find it annoying is because other games have shortcuts.
Many have a pick up loot by running over the body while some auto loot.
I do like the loot filter some games have where you can take all items just the rare ones or just gold.
Since Dungeon Runners by NCSoft has this I am wondering if it will be incorporated into GW2
They do have a "Bling Gnome" that sells items for you while in Dungeon which is a little like the Mercantile summoning of gw.

Bind a key and you can attack and pick up at the same time

Binding "Target Next Item" is much better because the first one it targets is the closest, and then it cycles. Then to make things really fast you can either add "Target Previous Item" or get in the habit of starting over (by clearing target or targeting an enemy or ally) when you accidentally pass up the desired item.
I just call a target and pick up loot from the previous foe while my Discord heroes make the kill.
