I just noticed a [Split] button when I put some zkeys on another few. I'm assuming its for all stackable items now, right?

You hold shift, click on the stack you want to split, then move the mouse to an empty slot in your inventory. You will then be asked how many items you would like to split up from the current stack.

I havn't noticed anything different when moving stacks, it sounds like you accidentally held down the shift key while moving it?

Item stacks being moved to/from inventory were not always splittable, but I don't remember when it was changed.
Edit: or maybe they were always splittable. A search turned up a thread from 2006 where the OP mentioned it.

I seem to recall the you-can-split-stacks-up-using-shift/click-now was an update from a long while ago. I can't recall when, thinking it's been a couple years.
But I could swear I remembered reading that update and being so happy I didn't have to trade to another account to get stacks split anymore. I'm not positive, but I'm in the "you couldn't always do that," camp. Although, I think we've been able to do it for quite a while now.

broken as in split into 2 stacks
say i have 177 mandragor husks
if i hold shift and click drag the stack to storage pane (or any open slot on my character) the game asks how many husks i wish to seperate from the 177 and move to the new locale...
