Seems like a single scarab can kill a 55 monk real fast. Is there a counter to these little creeps?

yer, just farm the griffons and use that money to pay for runners to run u everywhere

they used to be farmable until they got nerfed. they can be farmed, but it's too much effort for too little reward now
