For the most part, my monk heroes use a hybrid build. Their headgear is either Healing +1, Prot +1 or Divine +1 depending on what I salvaged and who had an empty slot. If I bought a rune then it is Healing +1.
What are my better options for what items they should be using? I spend alot of time waiting for energy to recharge when using items that have energy regen -1. Full energy = staying alive longer.
Your thoughts and help are appeciated. Thanks.

more energy does NOT equal staying alive longer. that's gotta be one of the most common misconceptions newbs make, running around with full radiant/attune wondering why they dive into the ground face first so quickly.
more life/armor and energy management = staying alive longer. energy management goes for skills as well as not spamming skills like an asshat, which monk heroes tend to love doing with certain skills (rof for example)
i'd love to help you more specifically based on what you're using but of course you provided absolutely no details whatsoever on what skills/weapons/insignias you're currently running so that's all i can say.

I am not using Hero monk anymore, as if i have chance to customize a buddy coming with me it should make damage and not just healing. Personally i am the fan of Sabway or Discordway. Both Uses 3 Necromancer.

Necros are great combinied with monk and ritualist skills and their energy management is fantastic thanks to their primary attribute. In these articles there are pretty much of everything you need.
Personally i like to have heros with a LOT Hp. I am using +60 / +30 hps staves for them with a minimal +10-15 energy. The other attribs of the staves should go for halves recharge time of the skills.
Runes and insignias: i am using +2 (-35hp) runes on headgear, +41 hp rune on chest and lots of survivor insignias and vitae runes.
These all should bring your heroes somewhere between 550-600 hp wich is pretty good in every situation.
You can take a healer henchman and a protection henchman too if u are going to under heavy pressure. Take Ele henchies for additional damge and there you go.
Anyway i didnt met anything in this game what wasnt beatable with well organized Sabway or Discord team.
Good luck!

Depending on the area that I'm about to enter, I will either use Dunkoro, Tahlkora & Olias OR Jurah, Olias & Livia (or Xandra subbed in when I don't have one of the others). They are all outfitted with staves that give them +30-60 in Health and +15-20 in Energy and insignia/runes that total up to at least 550 in Health and 50-60 in Energy overall.
When I think it prudent to use the Dunk/Tahl/Olias Combination I use Heal/Prot/MM skill bars for them. When I use the Jurah/Olias/Livia(or Xandra) Combination, I use standard sabway or discordway.

Two things are pretty key for any monk heroes I use for heal/prot:
1. Set the hero to Avoid Combat!!
2. I give every heal/prot monk a caster spear (I Have the Power inscription and +20% Enchantments) and a focus. Preferred focus has HSR Heal or Prot 20% and +30 HP, but those are hard to find, so I settle for +1 Heal or Prot 20% and +30 HP. The +30 is the important part.

Please don't flame me for posting in the wrong forum. It was suggested that I didn't post enough information for a good reply.
My primary question remains: What are the better items for a hybrid monk to use? Any other thoughts on insignia, runes or skills are appreciated.
When I play with a hero, it is almost always has insignia and runes.
My monks are outfitted as follows:
Head: Survivor, Heal +1 or Prot +1 or Divine Favor +1
Chest: Survivor, Major Vigor (or Minor Vigor)
Arms: Survivor, Vitae
Legs: Radiant, Attunement
Feet: Radiant, Attunement
Skills:
GLE
Guardian
Reversal of Fortune
Shield of Absorption
Protective Spirit
Dwayna's Kiss
Rebirth
Zealous Benediction
Without items: Health 551, Energy 38 (level 20)
Tahlkora has:
Healing Rod HCT 20%, Energy +15, Energy Regen -1
Healing Ankh: Energy +12, Health +45 (when enchanted), Inscription: None
With above items: Health 551 (696 when enchanted), Energy 61
When I play solo, I play a C space bar mentality. target and shoot. It wasn't until I started doing Z Missions and Z Bounty in HM did I understand the concept of pulling. I used to wait until all my heroes and henchman had full health before I would attack the next mob. Later, I learned to wait until my heroes had nearly full energy before attacking the next mob. In my mindless style of playing, more useable energy means staying alive longer.
Other trivia info:
On my primary Nightfall Ranger character, I have almost 200 skill points and 45 hero skill points. Until recently, I did not purchase skills. About 2 weeks ago I did EotN, Attack on the Stronghold solo with heroes and henchmen. It took me about 90 minutes. Less than a day later, someone was GLF more AoS so I joined. He did it in less than 15 minutes. I got his skill bars for copies of Zhedd, Master Wispers and Olias. I implemented these heroes skill bars and it was remarkable. I am now enthusiast about getting a better understanding about builds (which is outside the purpose of this message.)

Hybrid I'm guessing normal WoH+PS and SoA.
Health all the way.
Spear with +5 defense and a caster shield is what I use, but then again, I can't be arsed to throw that on every one of my monk heroes, it's PvE
