Robbed? My Xunlai Chest is empty
EvilWayne
That's about it. I haven't been online in awhile, but when I logged in, just about everything I had in-game, in the chest is gone, including over 1k gold.
I realize that it's probably gone for good, but I'm unsure what could have happened. I can't seem to find any information about it.
And equally confused on where to report it, if at all.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
-w

There's nothing the forum can do for you. You can contact ANet Support, although I doubt there's much they can do to help.
Check your system for key loggers, change your passwords, have serious words with anyone you've given the login details to, then pick yourself up and start again.

Either someone is being really good and secretive at hacking people's accounts lately, or people are being consistently stupid in getting hacked and posting about it here. There sure have been a lot of threads like this lately.

People are consistently stupid. It's the one true constant in the universe.

what sucks is you can change the game password through the ncsoft website. So you have to be carfull with both passwords.

or maybe it is people that log on to guru that get hacked ^^
DarkWasp
I can confirm that whoever this hacker is, is really good at this.
I got hacked yesterday and here's why I think he is good.
-I just installed Windows 7 on the 22nd, that leaves less than a week to pick up a virus.
-I haven't done anything new other than that, havent visited any sites I havent visted before, havent even logged on to this forum until now.
-No 3rd party programs run at all, I've played TF2 since the upgrade and checked in GW twice, that's all.
-Spybot and Housecall FULL scans return NO MALWARE.
-There's nothing suspicious in my boot sector.
-I'm secure behind a router and a firewall
-Basically i've done nothing that would give away my password.
Theres ONE catch: This forum and my GW Account shared the same password, not anymore though.

EDIT:: Sorry, on topic, it isn't THAT hard to crypt a virus so that it won't get found by any AV's, sandboxie is your friend (Although some crypters have anti-sandbox)
DarkWasp
Still, I did nothing that would infect me after Windows 7 was installed. It was a fresh install too, not an inplace upgrade.
dekusvamp
Some skiddie could've found an SQL exploit in guildwarsguru too, though it would be near impossible, providing that the people behind guildwarsguru probably have it very secured, and if they're getting it hosted somewhere, the host would also take care of the security.

Well yeah man, I wasn't blaming the great guys who run GWG.
I'm just betting either NCSoft/ArenaNet/GWG got hacked. My NCsupport account info was identical to my GW account as well. Luckily not my regular NCSoft account, which I used to change my password back. (Then a different PC on safemode to make it something different)
The hacker took party items, and what pisses me off the most is:
FoW armor, and two sets of 1.5k armor and one 15k armor which still had dye from the old dye system. Impossible to recreate. As for the FoW.. whatev, it's in my HoM.
GW2 will come and I won't care about these items anymore anyway. It's just sad to see the armors with sentimental value dissapear.
Really wasted his time, I had maybe 10k. He also took two dedicated celestial minipets but missed an unded mini-pig. Ha!

It would be interesting though if there were a connection between people who use guru and those who are hacked. Not saying that anyone associated with guru is involved but that someone who uses guru has figured out a way of hacking accounts using information they get from guru. Anyone who is lazy and uses the same password and e-mail account for both would be easy prey. It would also be a great way to scout for people buying or selling items to get a feel of how much wealth they might have. Just an Idea!!

lol dude ur sad about losing 1k? u can make 100k in a week or less FEATHERS

I wouldn't put it past anyone. Everyone is suspect, especially on this site. I'v been a member of many online communities and this is one of the worst when it comes to behavior.
Besides, I bet hackers are members here, if for no other reason, than to come and read the "I got hacked!" threads. Maybe even to add some salt to the wound.
But I highly doubt any of the gwg staff would hack a player. If it did happen like that and people found out, this site's reputation would be ruined beyond repair. So I'm pretty sure the staff and those connected with this site keep as far away from hacking as possible.
But two very important rules.
1. Never use the same email address for this site and your game account.
2. Never use the same password for this site and your game account.
It never hurts to be careful. Good luck and I hope everything works out.

The simple fact that you used the same login info in guru and on GW would make me believe you aren't so secure as you seem to think. The "hacker" could have just as easily infected your pc last year and known your info since then, but didn't do anything with it untill now.I would think you done plenty to give away your password, you just seem to think that you haven't.
The most probable reason for these people being "hacked" is them "giving" their account info to anyone you wants to spend a few minutes to figure it out.
I bet your GW email is the same Email you use to MSN on daily,so much for security.
Now stop secretly blaming GWG for peoples stupidity.

It sounds like you guys don't trust this site.
You said it, not me.

If your account is important to you, don't use the account name, email, or password anywhere else, including GWGuru. That's just common sense.
No one here can help you, but you may report it at: http://www.guildwars.com/support/
Everyone's right, though. Support can't(won't) restore anything you may have lost.

Wen i loged on i was so, so shocked so i can imagine how your feeling.
I did contact NcSoft and they did find the root of the cause, they told me to runa programme called Spyware Doctor 10, it picked up straight away i had 1 high rish keylogging cookie, whih is probably how i had my details stolen.
Did i get anything back? No .
Was the person aught? No .
Did i learn from my lessen? Ohh yes in a big was, my pc is now has all internet security, malaware remover, cookie removers including 3rd party, fire wall...you name it i now have it, and beforeyou think i cant afford that, dont stress 98% of the software i use is free, its just a case of trial and error to find out which ones are the best, trust me iv tried them all lol.
Use a safer browser with extensions, i recommend using Firefox 3 & install security addons, two spring to mind which are brill are...
COM - Warns & stops Spyware, Malaware, Web of trust extra security giving each site a rating, green good, orange carefull, red dager etc.
TrackMeNot - Stops Trakers & Keylogging (One of the best addons a must have)
Cookie Monster - Warns & Stops all cooies including 3rd party (brilliant addon)
Ghostery - Stops 3rd party cookies & hackers tracking analysis, stoping them finding any of your details in their tracks (brilliant addon)
Free PC security
Microsoft One Care - Does the lot for XP
Micosoft Security Essentials - Does the lot 100% fre for vista
Panda Antivirus
AVG Internet security & Antivius
Norton PC Antivirus remover
COMODO Internet security (the best i have tried to date) Inludes firewall
FC Cleaner - Drive cleaner & Defregger in one, also allows you to ontrol start up & running programms.
Anti malaware rootkit
I hope this help you a little in the future & i'm sorry for your loss.
DarkWasp
I know, I know. Just adding to this thread by saying "same here".
And please guys, don't be mean to the OP. Account theft is serious no matter how much was stolen and its important to know how it happened so that it won't happen again.

Just because you got hacked after you insalled Win 7 doesn't mean they got your details after then. I'm guessing you didn't update your GW login details when you upgraded your operating system, so there's nothing to say said thief didn't use intel gathered before the 22nd.

Sorry to hear what happened.
I have seen in game people post there Password by accident in all chat thinking they were pasting sometime else like a link to wiki or whatever.
Turns out they usually copy/paste there pass to the login screen instead of Typing it because of there fear of keyloggers and forgets its still in clipboard
did that happen to you at any stage?
Just an idea I'd throw out to you.

Don't know about the OP, but I never copy/paste my password.
I'm surprised how slow NCSupport is right now though. Are we sharing the same support crew with Aion?

Secondly, i bet not one of those AVs would be picking up a simple keylogger, like JET.

After the recent bout of compromised accounts, I think it's wise to suggest that everyone seriously consider changing their passwords and making more secure passwords. Don't use a word you can find in the dictionary. Add numbers and characters to make it more difficult. On passwords that are case-sensitive, mix the letters up with upper and lower case. Don't use your birthdate, last four of your social security number or anything else that could be easily guessed.
DarkWasp
I changed my password but ncsupport decided to disable my account until we get this settled. Yet they are taking their sweet time getting back to me on this issue. So... I sure hope there isnt any linkage to GW2 and having all the holiday hats...

I am sorry to hear what has happened - hopefully this will not happen to you, or any other people again.
You have to be careful with your password. As everyone says, (and as any site you sign up for will probably tell you) don't give your password to anyone else. I suggest doing what some office-jobs (or any job that requires you to be using a computer more often than not) do - change your password every 4 - 7 days. Yes, there are jobs that require you to do this. Some more frequent than others, but that's the average.
If you insist on NOT changing your password frequently, then go ahead and Google search "How to make a strong password." You'll come up with something related to the following:
-Make your password at least 8 characters long.
-At least one number. (1, 2, 3, etc.)
-At least one symbol. (!, @, #, etc.)
-Don't include your log-in/screen-name or anything related to it in your password.
-Some sites/games are case sensitive - MaKe YoUr PaSsWoRd CaSe SeNsItIvE aS wElL. (Yes, that's annoying to read and write, but trying to get my point across.)
...and so on.
Either way, you need to be very careful.

Quote:
Realize the probability of a password being cracked. Lets assume that you have a 4 character password. Each character can be A-Z, 0-9, or an underscore ("_"). That means you have 37 possible keys for each character. That means that your password has 1874161 possibilities. This may sound like a lot, but modern computers can easily go through thousands of passwords per second if the login program isn't correctly secured. Adding just one more letter (or number) to your password increases the number of possible combinations by nearly 40 times. |
