There are always a few jerks when it comes to comments about the first place winners.

The rules say they will have a next place winner judged already in case of disqualifications etc, so that should probably go up this week.

Categories would have been nice, something that has been mentioned years before. This year's contest prizes had a lower cash value than any other year and less prizes than any other. Still don't see why they couldn't have given more digital prizes out. It wouldn't cost them anything and would have been a great big hug to the community who have been asking for more minipet prizes since the last ones in 2007.

Just wanted to take a few moments out of my weekend to clarify a few issues.

As always, art can be quite subjective, so there's some disagreement on the entries. This happens each year. The reality is that no one will agree 100% on the results. Every single ArenaNet staff member was given the opportunity to vote on the submissions. The results are an aggregate of those votes.

The tip-off about the plagiarized entry was received nearly at the end of the work day. We had only time to have our web master pull the entry from the web site. Martin and I will make a decision about this during business hours. We hope for your patience and understanding regarding this issue.

Yes, I agree with Kiya here, even more so after what Regina wrote.

Regina, why aren't there at least a few categories such as costumes, decorations (including baked goods, carved pumpkins, etc.), and drawn/CG art? Also, if you had so many entries into this year's contest and it was so hard to choose, why not make more honorable mention places? 10-20 more would have been more "normal" and appreciated too by the community.

Another request that I think would be very important to all who enters your contests:
Please please send a confirmation email that you received our entries to all those who send in theirs via email!
After seeing the response in this thread and in-game to my picture, I simply cannot help but wonder that it might have been overlooked, or you didn't receive it at all.

Thank you if you respond, and have a Happy Halloween!

Cool, the Jora costume and the flesh golem/charr effigy were by far my favorites Congrats to the winners. The siege turtles (both of them) were pretty awesome too!

God ive never seen such a group of QQing babies in my entire life. Instead of being happy for the winners, which was what this thread started to be, you are all griping on why you think your opinion matters and who should have won instead of whom. Some "community" when so many of you have insulted the hard work and time much of the contestants went thru to participate.

Ive looked at almost all of the entries, if there was a pic for them, and every one of you contestants should be proud on what you did. Whether you won or not. But seems many did it for the wrong reasons, if all you can do is complain about how you didnt win by putting someone elses effort down. Loosing sucks aye, but its a part of life. Only 20 could be chosen. Aye, everyone has their favorites and some they didnt like as well. But you should be talking about the favorite things you saw instead of insulting the ones you didnt. Try and be positive and think of someone elses feelings for once in stead of your own. You wouldnt dare say some of this to those peoples faces. Just because you hide behind a computer, doesnt give you freedom to change how you act towards another human being.

To those that won...you did a great job and dont let anyone make you think or feel differently. Tzu, your costume was amazing and you looked great in it. lol. I can tell you spent much time and effort on it. The Char Effigy in the front yard was cool and I wouldve freaked if I had seen that in my neighborhood. Would have been banging on your door for a geek out with ya. Both Turtles were cool whether they shot things or not. And many more to list.

For those of you who didnt win....dont think it was because you didnt do a great job. Some of that 2d Artwork I would kill to have displayed framed in my house. Those cakes made me hungry. The ToT bag displays were spot on and well done. The costumes were cool and wouldve had me geeking out if they showed up at my door for candy. And again, too many more to list off.

You all must remember that you did this partly for a mini pet, but mostly because you love this game, and you need to start loving some of those that play it a little bit more.

Well done to all that participated.

It always amazed me that people are willing to permanently inscribe pictures to their flesh, regardless of what that picture it. Make decidion that is going to stay with then for rest of their life and think it out so poorly. As, for example, getting pictures that are just passing fad that will not mean anything to anyone in few years. That is kind of very stupid, dont you think?

His tatoo is definitelly better than RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOstamp or celtic-wtfismeaningofthisanyway-cross or name of gilfriend (those are funniest ones, right after breakup), but considering that when you quit game and when servers are long closed, it is going to be ... weird to say the least.

But do not be discouraged, go ahead and get that tatoo too

Hi hi.

There was some serious works!
I'm glad a friend of mine won the 2nd place ^^

I'm posting because someone sent me this, and I felt like I had to share.

I have a problem concerning one entry that won. In fact, this is a problem concerning the rules.
It is not fair, and it has to be known.

This entry:

does not follow the rules of the contest. I'm sorry that this entry can not be in the list.

Well. I don't think it would be against the rules if it was a template, as the art is the character whereas the cube is.. the medium I guess. But the guy does say this on his website...

http://www.cubeecraft.com/blog/faq/
Quote:
May I take or create a Cubeecraft and enter it in a contest, use it to promote my website/company/property or make T-Shirts or other apparel? NO. Cubeecraft is intended for private use and not to be used in a commercial capacity without permission!
I still find that I don't quite think the entry should be disqualified.

It states clearly on the website with a big NO that use of template is not allowed.

EDIT: I'm a bit late with posting the quote.
Since the site states that the templates may NOT be used, allowing the entry to stay might cause (legal) problems for Anet, so I think they will disqualify it.

EDIT2: Also what the person below my post said.

After seeing that the guy clearly said "no" to using his templates for contests, I think it would be a bad idea for them to allow it as a winner. It would make Anet appear as if they don't care about things like that, and that's not an image any company needs. Just my two cents!

The guy that submitted the entry could have had permission... but he would need to prove that to Anet.

am i the only who thinks introducing rare minis where only 20 will get was a silly idea? it only brings out the ugliness among players, it does not involve any skill involving gw in any other ways and if its not auto dedicated to one of those 20 who will have it so some of them could sold their minis for armbraces, even more gg

I think what is ugly about this contest that there are clearly now two entries that are some form of plagiarism that won. Seem to me like people just rip things off and hope they don't get found out b4 the prizes get handed out. Or in the case of the last henchman contest, so wide spreed that it easier for anet to make up some BS excuse than redo the whole contest.

Wow, how full of assumptions can one person be?

Tattoos don't need to mean anything to anyone but the person that has it. It doesn't have to mean anything at all. So long as it's something that they like, who gives an eff what it is? Obviously he enjoys GW a lot. Years down the road, when the game's long shut down and dead, he's probably not going to regret it. Rather, it'll remind him of the fun he had.

I also don't get where your assumption that it was a poorly thought out decision came from, unless you decided that simply from the fact that you don't agree with it.

That deviantart picture is amazing, easily better than anything in that competition, I'm assuming that it wasn't entered into the competition because it would be nothing short of a crime for it to finish anywhere other than first.

I'm not sure why a wintersday themed costume won, it was good but really shouldn't have been considered in a competition for halloween art.

Winner 10 was the best entry i can see on the website, I know a lot of time goes into making costumes but art should be judged on the end product regardless of effort.

Just fyi, that entry was not wintersday themed....
She made Jora's costume, and as we (hopefully) all know, Norn live in the Far Shiverpeaks... where everything is covered by snow... all the time.

The costume is in total halloween spirits, and it looks amazing.

I do kind of agree that the Jora costume is rather winter like. Don't get me wrong, that costume is amazing, and the girl is very nice looking in it for sure. That costume had to take a LONG time to work on. So please don't misunderstand, i do find it an amazing piece of art work. However, i don't see the link to Halloween. To me, it seems the only reason it won the Halloween contest is because it was a costume. I know that Jora lives where there is snow yes, but still, what about that entry is related to Halloween other than the fact that it's a costume? Well anyway, good job to the one that made it, your costume really is impressive. I could never make something like that, and have it look even half as nice lol.

And wow, can't believe another one took someone elses work again. I hope they get disqualified as well, since the owner of the site clearly stated his temps were not to be used in any contests. Oh and nice cake Villinar! We both made cakes, i like how you decorated yours. Lookin at it made me hungry! I like the spider web at the one corner, that was a nice touch.

Congratulations to all winners of this Forums, and the others too!

@Tzu your costume is amazing, whoa it has so much work done on it you deserved to win, fantastic!

I like all the drawings especially the one with the evil rabbits!

I'm sorry for the one who did not win but deserved too! ANet should have, at least, extended the HM list.

I made an entry too just for fun, I do not know how to use PhotoShop and I really don't care ....much! :P But I had fun doing it.

Again gz to you all even if you did not win it's always fun to participate!

Hum. I was under the impression that the modern take on Halloween included dressing up as favourite characters from various forms of media. At least to the parties I've seen, or been to. :P

That being said, I don't see the problem with the first place winner - it's not like she didn't put any effort in it, or just throw on a cloak and pumpkin mask, proclaiming she was Mad King Thorn. :P

Congratulations to everyone.

No it's definitely an animate flesh golem from the necro spell. In the bottom left picture you see its face staring to the right of the picture with its horn.

Essentially, it's kneeling on its right knee with its left arm outstretched forward and its right arm extended backwards as if ready to start attacking/slashing.

I thought it was pretty clear.

looks nothing like both golems....(well in my eyes)
Maybe my imagination is just not there...i dunno
but I think theres a bunch more entrys that are much better for halloween contest winners, like someone said in a post before if someone drew a golem it wouldnt have won.

I made a quick screencap of a flesh golem:

That's approximately the position the cardboard one is in, except the cardboard one's left hand touches the ground and it's kneeling with it's right knee.
