Guild Wars higher CPU use on Windows 7?
TsunamiZ
I just upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 x64. I noticed that Guild Wars now seems to have higher CPU use and causes my CPU fan to spin more loudly more often--even when nothing intense is happening. The game runs fine but just seems less efficient on the CPU. Does anyone else with Windows 7 notice this problem on their systems?

my gw crashes a bit here and there on windows 7, idk about cpu usage : d

I noticed that myself. In Fact, I have noticed just about everything uses much more CPU than when using XP. I thought it was just that being a beta it was buggy but even now with the purchased version, CPU time is still high on nearly everything.

Are you all running the 64 bit version?
Im running the 32 bit and its working fine, but the CPU usage increase is very minimal.

Hi All
I have been running Windows 7 for about 6 months now 64 bit, I have been testing it both for work and home purposes and have been checking CPU performance over this period.
My GW client never goes above 15% CPU usage. (Although this will change greatly depending on your CPU, Graphics Card and Memory Configuration)
I would honestly say from what I have tested via different games and applications is Windows 7 manages CPU performance better than XP and puts VISTA to shame.
Cheers

I'm still running the windows 7 RC (still waiting on the official version i ordered), but I don't notice anything about higher cpu usage.

although GW is still installing on my windows 7 its doing tons better than vista, on windowed mode vista would go very slowly with GW and internet, now i have a few other windows, internet, itunes and GW on windowed mode and its not going slow. theres probably an increase from XP usage because of the graphics W7 uses? like the aero theme stuff? i dunno

As sort of mentioned above, if you are just monitoring the total cpu usage, that would include the game plus Windows (and any other apps) cpu usage. Depending upon how your windows is set up, an increase in cpu usage would not be surprising.
On the other hand, if you are monitoring just the cpu usage of GW (using Task Manager), I dunno what to tell ya.

i have a quad core cpu. even when minimized, guild wars always uses up 25% of the whole cpu or 100% of a core. when its running maximized it goes in the 30%+ range. though im not sure if these % are different than my previous xp install.

I've noticed my laptop being a lot louder with GW running, but I haven't noticed a -decrease- in performance. :| It's been running better than XP and Vista
I have a 2.0GHz dual core and it stays around 20% CPU usage on Win7 64x.
