Just lost my Survivor
Shadowlore
Hi All
Have been playing the Phrophicies campaign, been doing missions, quests and a little grinding and I was sitting at 178k XP, just got to the crystal desert.
Now I have been very careful, pulling creatures very carefully ect and its been succesfull up unitl now.
Was making my way to Elona Reach via Diviners Ascent and before I knew it I was dead, those damn Hydras, arrrrgggg I wanted to scream, those have to be the hardest hitting creatures I have faced since starting Guild Wars.
I know the survivor Title has a lot of bad press nowadays because of the old HFFF and the Punchout Quests, but I wanted to get it just playing the game.
Anyone else gotten this title just playing normally and what tips could you advise if I decide to try again?
Cheers

don't play alone and get proper heroes first.
MagmaRed
I did this on my Paragon. This is what I advize based on what I did.
1) Get max armor ASAP.
2) Use all health bonus runes/insignias (Survivor, Vigor, Vitae).
3) Use heroes+hench unless you know the people EXTREMELY well. If real people are with you, make sure they know you are a Survivor.
4) Take self heals and defensive skills to protect yourself, do not rely on someone else to do it for you, even a hero you are microing.
5) Learn how to flag heroes, which heroes to bring, and which builds for heroes are effective.
6) Play ranged. A Melee class just offers more difficulties, either enter aggro WAY late or stay at wand/bow range.
7) Run and flag hero+hench when needed, map out if that won't be enough. You may go slower and have to redo things, but losing 30-60 minutes for a mission is much better than losing weeks of work.
8) If you can afford it, use cons.

I finished Factions and Nightfall on my survivor ritualist and here are a few of the things I found very helpful (I agree with trying to get survivor the 'real' way, it's much more rewarding). I only had to map out once or twice to avoid death but maybe I could've survived those by staying as well.
- FLAG! Always remember you can flag your heroes/henchmen forward into dangerous mobs. Also, if you're getting overwhelmed you can flag them to the spot and you can run away, leaving the aggro with them.
- AGGRO CONTROL! Very important, but you already know this I imagine.
- As Magma said, ranged chars are much safer since you can manage aggro and kite/retreat better. As a ritualist, spirit spamming helpt me a lot also.
- Get proper heroes with good skills and runed up. Very important. I lost connection during the Eternal Grove mission during the afflicted waves. I was guarding one side with my heroes. After about a minute I reconnected and I had been in no danger thanks to my heroes.
- Don't play the game for the first time on a survivor character. This is very important as you have experienced. Play it on one or more non-survivor chars first so you know what kind of enemies to expect where. You would've know about the Hydras in advance and been more careful with them.
- Use wiki. To see strategies and the enemies in certain areas and missions. There is also a survivor guide with links to a few easy high-rewarding xp quests.
- Skill capture. The reward (5,000 xp at level 20) of skill capping outweighs the danger of facing bosses. Almost all bosses are pushovers in normal mode. The dangerous or hard-hitting ones can be managed by flagging heroes/hench in to kill and you going in after it's killed to capture. I had the luck of a double rewards for skill capture weekend when I did my survivor. 10k xp per skill cap is amazing and I captured around 50 skills that weekend (500k xp + play). Wiki has a list of all the bosses, just pick the easy ones just outside towns etc.
Disagree. My first survivor char died on the Isle of the Nameless at the burning/poison/etc guys because I was running around with a guildie and I completely forgot it was my survivor char (yes I felt pretty stupid). My second survivor char was my ritualist (before rit overhaul so it should be even easier now) and I managed r3 survivor. It's really not that difficult if you know what you are doing. Doing kilroy for hours and hours is a waste of time in my opinion, not to mention lags hurt much more in a solo quest than in a h/h situation. Also, getting survivor the 'real' way is much more rewarding.

Just got LS by turning in Captured Skeletons, took me a while though.

Idk I agree with this. When getting my survivor on my sin there were plenty of people who tried to kill me in missions or runs or vanquishes. I wasted alot of money having to pay a runner just to run me to places after that.

I read alot about people who got LS through normal gameplay.
How much experience do you get for beating a level 24 monster in an 8/8 H/H team? 16?
You need to get 1,337,500 to get rank 3.
If you continue doing that, you will scream more
I have many LS and I have to tell you that the title means nothing. You can't brag about having an LS character, too. So, if you really want to have title, just do it at a the quickest possible way (Kilroy). When you get the title, then just continue keeping yourself Zero-Death until probably you reach 5,000,000 experience (or whatever figure you want to set for yourself).

I can see how getting survivor the "proper way" ie by playing the game is a lot more satisfying than getting it through exploiting weaknesses in the game.
However flagging all your heroes henchmen into a mob to avoid dying seems a little contrived imo, basically exploiting another weakness.

- make safe aggro
- have a team builds that heals you, you should bring damage, only bring emergency escapes, this will make you more safe if ever you get disconnected / lags since surviving will rely less on your reactivity than your positionning.
- if you are a melee class, go for spear/bow and bring source of deepwound, stun, etc... pve skills are your friends.
start a new char in faction, shing jea island can be run by survivors (get someone giving you his heroes for last mission, eventually), then go for EotN for normal quest if you plan to do the normal way.

AlsPals
Yea, avoid groups unless strictly pals. Asshats will purposely pull a mob or two in your groups direction(yes, even screwing them over) to kill you. Almost wish you could ban them with a message "GOTCHO DUMB ASS!"
Benderama
one BIG thing not to do. don't keep your survivor in an outpost that you wont be able to enter after a certain period (e.g. guild hall after you've been kicked out/ outpost that's being changed like HB) becuase it can add a death or two to your char when you're moved
Crystal Lake
Number 1 rule, don't fight anything that can kill you in a few hits like hydra, unless you have a guild member helping you who will start the aggro and allow you to run if need be. I have about 200k left to finish my Survivor, and I got most of it playing the game. I've played mostly Factions and Nightfall though, and Eye of the North.
Whenever there was a double XP weekend for capping skills I took my survivor and capped a bunch of elites at 10k a pop. I asked guild members to help me during most of the Factions missions. (Nightfall not as difficult)
It sounds like you were going about it the right way. I once got down to 42 health and pretty much thought it was over, but managed to escape by closing the game down. When I logged back on she still had her title. So if it looks like you're going to die, close the game down. Mapping out might just take too much time.
This Halloween weekend was great for survivors. Get through the second mission and then have another toon keep running the third and forth quest and give the gobstoppwers to the survivor who just keeps getting the rewards. The gobstoppers will go in storage.

One thing not mentioned so far: Scrolls !! Use them. Scroll of adventurer's insight or Hero's are both good and affordable.
I managed to get LS by repeating the Path to the Revelations quest in EotN.
If you use a adventurer's scroll during normal play and Hero's when you get to the bosses (5 of them), it doesn't take too long until you get there

I got survivor in the NF campaign on my necro, and it wasn't too hard.
- Carefully don't aggro more than one group
- Flag your heroes/hench slightly in front when engaging
- Get a run to consulate docks early on and use max armor from the start
- Stay in the back while you fight, run away or map out if anything goes wrong
- Rune up your heroes and give them good builds with green or spare gold items
- Cap skills if you want even more XP (beware of boss groups, especially elementalists)
- Don't try this on Prophecies, at least unless you hit Nightfall first for heroes/ max gear

Lol, playing normally is probably the most productive way to do LS.
Kilroys may get the title faster, but then you have to play thru the game again while you could have already beaten all three campaigns.
Kilroys is garbage due to the disconnection chance, in PvE if you disconnect heroes will keep you alive.
Only dangerous part is desolation in NF with wurms.
Ranged or melee can get LS easily thru regular play, don't listen to what others say. A warrior or dervish are probably one of the more safer professions to get it on.

LOL! I remember this back in the day. A LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time ago I was on a desert tour on a private run (it was me and only me there). I told him that I would be right back and that I needed a drink and ot not zone. Well. The smart guy he was we were on the end of the run and he zoned out anyways while I was AFk and when I came back I was dead.
It seemed that I got anal-raped by a few hydras that pass by the portal. :3
Since that day I have never left a zone without heroes without prot spirit and without the run being conducted by either myself on an alt account of by my gf.

Something that hasn't been mentioned (I think): if you're playing a caster, have a shield set ready (if possible, with +armor versus the elemental damage you're likely to take) and swith to it accordingly.

Then i did it with Kilroy, but i really admire all of those who managed to do it the "real" way.
My advice to you is to keep always open the guild roster [G], and to be ready to press Guild Hall if things go wrong.
Good luck^^

I made two attempts at a survivor, both failed.
First I died because my game lagged out whilst trying to map from Fronis Irontoe's lair.
Second I died because Ogden managed to run out of energy with skills that cost no more than 5 energy. He was spamming them on the other players in the party who were all around 90% health.
I was sitting on 10% health screaming my head off at him for being a useless midget.

Almost the same thing happened tpme, but it was the Droks run that caused it.
Some harpy thought it would be fun to play w. the stone summit after going thru the portal to Dreadnaught's and bam, there were about 25 on us. Before i could even run back thru, we were all dead, save the runner of course
