Okay so I'm not sure what to do..
I have a fiery brute sword of enchanting. Should I try to salvage:
1) the fiery sword hilt
2) the pommel of enchanting
3) crafting materials
or should i just keep the sword whole?

I already use a req 6 short sword of fortitude, should i switch?

If you're afraid to break your sword, then use a Perfect Salvage Kit. You can buy it for around 1k each.

Items won't break if you use perfect salvage kit.

as bluefeather said, if you're really affraid to get the maximum out of it...

But seeing as you use a req 6, I guess you're not max lvl yet so:
Questions:
1) Is the brute sword max damage? If so, what I'm saying won't matter, keep it and use it.
2) What's your class? If you're caster, the enchanting mod might be useful. If you're a warrior, read on.
3) Do you have a use for an enchant mod? Basically do you cast enchantments, if you,re a warrior, chances are it's no and the mod is useless to you.
4)Does the brute sword deal more damage than the one you have?

If you,re a warrior keep the Brute if it does more damage than yours, otherwise salvage for material or sell it to merchant.

If you're a caster, keep it for the enchant mod if you use enchantment.
Salvage and keep the materials if you are not using enchantments.

A lot of people want to salvage certain weapons to achieve the perfect weapon to accompany their build. You should first identify what kind of build your going for, if it fire, ice, water, pierce, slice, or any other kind of damage. For the sword you have right now, i made a list of builds that would go nicely if you built a sword out of items corresponding to components of the sword you want to salvage:

1. If you salvage the fiery sword hilt, it will convert your physical damage to fire damage. For instance, the more damage you can make your character do, the more fire damage you would inflict. A good spell to accompany this would be Rodgort's Invocation. Rodgort's is a hex or enchantment or whatever that will cause that person to be lit on fire for 3 seconds each time they take firey damage. This would cause them to be spammed with the burning condition, and die quickly.

2. The pommel of enchanting is an upgrade used to make your enchantments last 10-20% longer. My personal suggestion would be to make your secondary class a Dervish, so you can have access to enchantments to help you live longer, promote your weapon, etc. Your should use this when you are using enchantments so you last longer in battles. This will also work well when you are in PvP battles.

3. Dont salvage it for materials. lol

I'm going to assume you're a low level warrior, since you are using a sword and are asking about a sword.
What is the damage range of the sword you are currently using?
Is it greater then the Brute Sword's damage range?
It comes down to this: Whichever weapon that is stronger should be your weapon of choice.

1. Fiery hilts aren't worth a great deal, and are fairly common, so it depends upon what you want. If you don't plan to keep the sword, you could salvage the hilt to use later. If you do want to keep the sword, don't bother to try to save the hilt.
2. The pommel of enchanting could be worth a few k to a caster, IF it is max (20%) chance). Otherwise, like the hilt, don't bother.
3. If you don't want/need the hilt or pommel, you could salvage the sword into crafting materials. Ordinary salvage would give you iron ingots - expert salvage may give you steel ingots. The sword is probably worth more as is, to the merchant, than the mats would be worth, so only salvage the mats if you need/want them.
4. As far as keeping the sword goes, it depends upon how it's base stats compare to the sword you have now. Keep in mind that you can overwrite the hilt and pommel with something else.

I'm getting the impression that you are not yet level 20, that you are still in the starter areas, and that none of the swords you're talking about are max (15-22).

If that's the case, you should ignore everything everyone has said so far and heed the following:

What you do with non-max gear while leveling up is pretty much irrelevant, since everything you have right now is junk in the long term.

As for which sword to use while leveling:
(1) It hardly matters.
(2) If you really care to get it right, choose among the swords for which you meet the attribute requirement the one that does the most damage. Multiply the base damage times any inscription/inherent mod with a reasonable condition (ie +X% damage while health is over 50%).

As for what to salvage:
(1) Fiery mods are next to useless. They're only useful against monsters with a weakness to fire AND on a team that can't manage to produce a more powerful synergy with you doing physical damage.

(2) Enchanting mods are only useful if they're max (20%) and then usually for "caster swords" not for actual fighting. Since I'm guessing that this mod isn't maxed, it's junk.

(3) Crafting materials are worth it only if (a) you need the materials you're likely to get, or (b) the sale value on the item is so low that the materials you're likely to get are worth more to the trader than the item is to the merchant.

Small spell correction for you as well. "U" is spelled "you". "RodgErt" is spelled "RodgOrt".

On topic: As eeeeeeveryone as said: use a perfect salvage kit.

If the stats isn't max and your old sword does more damage, then just sell the junk. If it does more damage than your old sword, then keep it. You might want to salvage the fortitude inscription and put it on the new, better weapon.

However, if it is some max mods on it, then it might be worth salvaging, but there will probably only be one max mod (if the weapon isn't golden). If you can make use of any of the mods, salvage them.

If you don't need all inscriptions, then perfect salvage kit is just a waste of money.

As people have already said, use perfect salvage kit

If you don't want to pay that you should get the pommel, since it's the only salvageable thing from that sword which are worth more than 1 k.

Edit: Assuming it's max or 19%
