Armbrace prices = ridiculous?

A LOTS OF high-end armbrace farmers have quited the game lately so I wouldn't be any surprised that they have gone up so much. Just deal with it.

Why are you guys being pathetic an complaining about prices of armbraces. Make your own groups and do full runs and just pay the price of consets. Every time I map to GoA to do 'full DoA' runs theres loads of people just standing around semi afk looking for a group. Since Ursan nerf seems like people can't find a way to DoA - they just stand around complaining that they can't find a group.
I mean come on all you need is 1 melee 1 para 1 pnh monk and a bunch of necros and your sorted. That build is not like SF spike builds where everyone needs attack in sync. So simple even a 'tard could run it...
A couple runs a week and you can easy get an armbrace. Come on ppl stop being lame...

GW players are extremely lazy now with all the dungeon running and complaining that is too hard to do stuff. I done loads of DoA - from the old obsi tank and searing flames group to the Ursan to the SF + CoP and heroways so there has always been workable builds for ppl who look them up and do have a go.

Eh, I said it before...but when you have the builds in place(600 and a Veil farmer) you can farm the gems from DOA HM in ONE day if you wanna sit there all day. 2-3 days with a couple hours nightly dedicated, and some luck. Then, if you wanna ramp up speed, buy any gems you see floating around in Gate of Anguish. Making money off of braces is the easiest thing in the world to do. if you can just get the initial brace, the rest come easy. Ala Scrounge for the first one, and sell it. If you come on GW at weird times, there is always someone spamming to sell a brace or 20, and you may be able to amke 10k+ from buying one, though looking to make 3 or more ectos per transaction is optimal. In addition, just play normally, and do fire sales. You dont need to make huge cash on all goods to feel decent at the end of the day. Just grab shit, take advantage of holidays(People selling AND buying TOT bags for 75k each...wtf? Buy em at 50k each and clean up 5 minutes later...but this was only really the case the first two days.) Im all for everyone making there cash, but there is no one to blame but Anet. Sure if SF gets nerfed, something else will come up, but it couldnt possibly be faster or as fast in knocking shit silly in the game. To obtain High End goods, be ready to do High End shit. Or wait for Anet to make one of the rarest items in the game drop from 5+ different creatures, damn near every dungeon end chest...and yes im talking about the Elemental Sword.

Agree with you Lord. =) I won't sell a brace below 48e, and everytime I get low ball offers, just say no thanks. If your patient enough there are always the few who will offer 50+ ectos for a brace when they need 1 in a hurry. Patience is a virute, shouldn't all you powertraders know that by now???

Ambraces are only expensive to those that don't like farming.
Sure you can argue you have other things to do in life other than gaming which is great and all, but that doesn't mean you just deserve a tormented weapon.

Some history. Ecto has been used as a simple substitute for cash in transactions > 100k. When GW was in early days buy sell prices were first determined in gold, then converted to gold + ecto using the going exchange rate. Later, once ecto had stabilized a bit people began bidding 100+ecto.
Changes to UW have driven up the value of ecto. Changes to UW has done nothing to make obtaining an Armbrace any easier or more difficult. Thus, the value of an Armbrace should remain static.
So why have they gone up? Couple reasons. First, we don't have a strong-form market. Second, lots of buyers/sellers are irrational.
People whine when sellers ask the same amount of ecto for an armbrace (thus asking for more gold in essence, for the same amount of work that they used to do). But if people still buy the armbraces in spite of the whining, it means that armbraces were previously undervalued.
If people don't buy the armbraces, then they will eventually drop in value. The number of trades will also drop, as many sellers will simply hold the items in inventory waiting for the market to move. As cash is not necessary for pretty much anything in GW, there is no penalty for doing so.
So yep, the selling prices are irrational. But so are the buyers, as they continue to buy armbraces. So in the end things balance out, and irrationally, changes in UW farming drive up armbrace prices. Sounds silly, but it's simply a function of the must-have-it-now GW community.

ursan days ectos were 5.5k then the SF plains farm came out and ectos drop to 3.7k. I tried to explain to people the 1.8k difference meant it cost more ectos but no one would buy, everyone said 100k + 25 blah.
Basically ectos have become another forum of currency which is obviously linked to gold. Of course has the ecto supply increased dramatically over the last 18 months, thus dropped the price. Now that UW is much harder to do the ecto supply rapidly shrank agian and you will see it to continue to shrink as long as there isnt another speed clear.

I see you've already forgotten the other side of the coin as well. If the rise in price of a commodity can make the rich richer, than a crash can also make them substantially poorer. It's a risk they take by holding their cash as ecto or armbraces or rare items. In fact over the past 4 years every single item in this game has dropped in value over and over again. Yes, that affects everyone rich and poor alike, but while you're both losing money to the same market force, THEY are actually working like dogs to make their money back and a whole lot more.
You're poor because you choose to be, one way or the other. Either you wanted to play casual all the time, or you had no interest in power trading, or IRL kept you too busy. Whatever the situation, you made a choice. Deal with it. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

They were lucky/sensible enough to own the right things when the market shifted, and then capitalized on it. Inflation just makes the margins wider if you've already got the cash to play in those markets, and asset appreciation is strong in an inflationary market.

Well back when GW was very young and they did that reset on ectos to 100gp each many got stacks of them and thus became very wealthy as the game progressed. What suked is when they were 17plat each and there was no way to get gold for them without buying tons of accounts. Had to trade them for supposedly high end rare skins and inserts that Anet eventually killed in value as well except for the very few things left in Prophecies still rare or out of print and then the torment and destroyer gear and mini pets. I find collecting rares boring now as there just aren't as many as there used to be and having stacks and stacks of ectos is becoming meaningless.

Prices have been steady at 45e all weekend, so maybe demand is slowing or we have an over supply. Will have to wait and see if the prices continue to go lower. At that price if u bought all gems, profit is only about 20-30k. Also farmers are asking more for gems now.
