You may have allowed it through your firewall, but with what priviledges? If I remember correctly, there are specific ports that need to be enabled, and it must be allowed to act as a server (listen) through your firewall.

Vent fails on my system, exactly the same way, because I have my firewall set to block anything trying to act as a server.

I found that if I allowed Vent as a server, it connected immediately and worked perfectly. It continued working, even if I re-enabled server blocking while it was running... seems it only wants/needs that during connection.

Depends on your firewall. You'll need to look in your manual to find out how to enable specific ports, or enable servers.

You could try briefly disabling your firewall altogether, then startup Vent. Might be tricky if you're using a router and the firewall is built into the router... but whatever - if Vent works like that, then at least you know that your firewall is the problem.

If it still doesn't work... then you have some other problem, and you need to figure that out first. You might still need to reconfigure your firewall afterwards, but don't bother until Vent works without it.

Your firewall should have a list of "exceptions" - just add Ventrilo to that list.

Of course, you could/should disable the firewall to find out if Ventrilo then works, before spending too much time screwing with the firewall settings. (You can enable the firewall again after you've determined if it is indeed the problem).

I have Windows Firewall (Vista) enabled (I thought it was turned off :/ ) and Ventrilo works fine without any special ports opened or anything. (It's simply on the list of "allowed" programs)
Ventrilo also has no problem going through my router with no special settings.

What firewall are you using? And, if it's not Windows Firewall, is that enabled too?
