New Computer Build (Econobox)
Flavoi the Grey
I looked at the guide for building an "Econobox", and half of the items no longer exist. So, i went ahead and made my own. I really want to know how this will work.
CPU $102 AMD Phenom 3.1GHz Dual-Core
Ram 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 $75.99
Mobo $54.99 6 SATA
Case+PSU $29.99
HDD $37 320 gig, SATA
DVD $28.99 SATA
GPU $50.99 DVI out
Moniter $78.99 19inch DVI in
Key/Mouse $30.99
OS $106.99 Win 7 64 bit Home Premium
total: 596.92
Is this going to work? And if so, is this the new "Econobox" ?

yeah, i haven't been updating that guide. i was hoping that it becomes a collaborative effort with techs updating it on the go, but the forum system does not allow for it. unfortunately, i've been too busy with other things lately to update it myself.
tbh, the econobox build i posted, if the parts still exist, with crush your system pretty thoroughly. a 4550 is absolutely no match for the 4770 i chose. some of the parts you chose doesn't seem to fit the bill: you are trying to build a fast system with cheap parts, yet you have a memory kit that costs $76 dollars. granted, my system doesn't have the OS factored in, but i really do you can find a better setup than the one you posted.

What do you want to do with your computer? What games and programs will you run on a regular basis? If you can answer that I'll post the best current sub $600 build I can drum up for you.

Multitasking (id like to try to keep the 4 gigs of RAM, if possible)
And basically general use. But the hard drive needs to stay 320 (multiple os's)
I need the OS, Monitor and Mouse/Keyboard as well.
EDIT: Only other game i can think of is Lord of the Rings online
Thats all i can think of right now
EDIT2: If you dont like micro ATX, how about
Mobo
Case+PSU
Also, Whats wrong with my RAM? And if it need a better GPU, id like to keep the DVI port. I dont need a VGA as i could buy an adapter. Also, it looks like my monitor is gone. Is it worth while to just grab an "Open Box" from Newegg?

Micro ATX mobos are fine, Micro ATX cases are not - generally speaking they are very cramped, have little room to work in and very limited expansion opportunity, let alone the reduction in airflow and thereby cooling.
When buying a Power Supply you need to go for quality, even if it means more money - this is one area that there is no room to skimp - going cheap here is likely to bite you in the end.
oh, any new video card you buy will have at least one DVI port standard, so no worries there.

Ok, cool.
How do you know if a built in power supply is good or not? Or are all built in ones bad?
Does my (partial) build hold any weight? Or should it be scrapped? I tried to go cheap, but it might not have worked...
Also, if my case has USB ports, do they just connect via sata?
Ok, I liked the old micro board, so hows this case With my original mobo. And im clueless about psu's (i checked the guide but it too was outdated {first link broken})
EDIT: The case has a combo deal for a psu, is it any good?
If this build holds any weight...
If not, im open to starting from scratch. I'd prefer
320 gig Hdd
3.~ amd dual core phenom
4 gigs of ram
decent gpu

602.9!
You're my hero!
Only question so far, would i see any difference bumping up the cpu to the next model? Would I notice any difference?
Scratch that, that processor should be perfect
Also for the moniter, would it be ok to pick one of these "open boxes" if i dont buy the moniter by the end of the week and the price goes back up?

Swap that Thermaltake PSU for this Corsair one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...9008&Tpk=400cx
The Thermaltake doesn't even tell you what the combined 12v rail amps/wattage is. That's a little suspicious IMO. FWIW, I have an older revision of that PSU, which only has 18A on the 12v. I think it's highly unlikely the updated version will have 29A (assuming they add) while keeping the price so low.
And uh, it has two 80mm fans, which might be louder than the single, slower spinning 120mm fan on the Corsair.

I have used that exact PSU and it is an excellent buy - more than enough power for a 4670 etc.
Flavoi - I would buy an open box monitor from Newegg without hesitation.

Heh, all I do is translate all moriz's work into English
Flavoi the Grey
Ok, thanks everyone. I want to watch prices for a little, and my Uncle wants to see the build. I'll also watch for an openbox monitor.
Flavoi the Grey
How do i know what cable come with it? I dont see any listed anywhere...
And does that graphics card support dual video out? Say, dvi monitor and vga projector?
