Running Two GW Accounts?
OoO Rift OoO
Im not sure the exact name of this ( running two gw accs on the same comp) but I know there are two ways of doing it:
• Some long process of screwing with your gw.exe(i think?) file which can end up badly if something goes wrong
• A simple third party program that dual boots it for you.
My question is, what is that program, and where is a reliable source that I can DL it from? Can anything bad come from using it?(not as in bans, gaile said using 2 accounts was ok)
Thanks.

I use the one from this thread:

Nothing bad has happened as a result in my experience. Works great on XP or Win 7 for me.
Good luck.

And yes, you can corrupt your registry if you do not know what you're doing.
In my personal experience using the prior method is the most convenient and the best way to multi-client Guild Wars. It's honestly very easy to do if you're PC-savvy but can pose a small problem if you're not.
Hope this helps.

This is the link for how to edit your registry. I have had no reason to do this process as I have used the program in the first link I pasted instead.
But, for completeness sake.. here it is.

Even the registry one requires you to mod one of the .exe's which i strongly advise you do not do.

don't run GWx2 just use GWML it's way better.

The way I do it is by pure registry editing. Altering your gw.dat is the one that is stricly against EULA/ToS, my mistake. Arena.Net does not own our registry, hence it is perfectly fine to do so.

I mod my registry all the time to tweak things just how I like. Configurations and output directories..etc..
I have enough experience with the not to mess the installation of Windows up, let alone I wouldn't blame you if I did because of the fact I know how to mod the registry and backups are very important. Do you mind divulging your secret?
EDIT: I do run two PC's side by side using the virtual network KVM switch program calld synergy (which is actually 100% freeware) and it works great but this would be cool for one PC since to run both i gotta swich ethernet cables (old pc has no wireless) and run one wireless (my main) whenever I do. When I run my main i insist on using wired not wireless so yeah it gets nuts.

I have used both GWx2 and GWML and GWML was the easiest and nicest of the two.
Playing two GW accounts side by side is huge fun!
However, my account was hacked a month or so ago and the only security risk I have been able to identify was these two programs.
I am not saying that either of them is malware as I know many people have used them with no problems, but personally I am not taking the chance anymore.

I'm the type who likes to mess with third party apps as little as possible, so the registry trick works nicely for me. It is indeed an annoying process whenever there's an update as the .exe file needs to be re-modded. But honestly, after a while I get used to it. Takes about 20 secs to be honest.
Based on the masses of people who have used it thus far. It is highly unlikely that GWx2 and GWML is the culprit of account hacks (if you got the file from trusted sources.)
So to be 100% paranoid-free, go with the registry trick. (only if you are comfortable with messing with it)

Do you all know if the GWML works with windows vista? I belive I have tried it before with weird results saying the file had been corrupted or that my computer cant open it? I thought this was strange and ive had this problem before modding oblivion.... so any info would be nice

It honestly takes me about... Hmm... 30-40 seconds to update my 14 different GW folder's registries? Add or take a few seconds?
I have a folder on my desktop labeled "Guild Wars" (with the Guild Wars icon helmet as well :3) that has shortcuts to the Guild Wars they belong to as well as the registry file next to it. It makes it extremely convenient this way.
Knowing your shortcut keys can drastically cut down the time it takes to update your registry after every Guild Wars update that is released. For me, all I do is: Open the Guild Wars container folder on my desktop -> open my GW registry file -> ctrl+O -> select GW icon -> ctrl+R -> alt+A -> enter button -> ctrl+S -> alt+f4 and all done. Takes about 3 1/2 seconds per. ^^

Hmm. Odd. I've always found editing your registry to take very little time and effort.

For the experienced, yes it is quite simple. But when recommending to others who barely know what regedit is, cautions should properly be noted.
For me, the process is: del old exe, copy new exe, rename new exe, and hex edit exe. Reg file does not need any alteration. So, 20 sec is probably over estimated.
Just the newly copied .exe needs to be hex edited.

I use GWML with Vista 64 and it works perfectly. There are 32-bit and 64-bit versions. The only possible issue is if you have GW installed in the default \program files (x86)\ directory then you could have issues with Vista User Account Control and file permissions. Easily solved by just copying gw.exe and gw.dat to another folder elsewhere. I just use c:\games\gw\ , ..\gw2\, etc.
Once you have GWML set up with shortcuts to each separate account and copy of GW, you never have to deal with it again. Updates work fine, no need to ever copy the gw.exe again. I have 3 separate accounts set up with a shortcut for each one. Could run all 3 at once but I only do 2 at a time for transferring items or gatemonkey in pre.
As for the registry method, you may think it is simple, but I tried explaining gwml to somebody in-game and he couldn't even figure out how to find gw.exe on his pc. There's no way that person could have handled editing his registry.
These days with PCs being more common than televisions, it seems like the large majority of users have absolute zero knowledge of how a pc works or how to do very basic file operations.
