Hi there.

I am on my first char and just made it off the island to the "Hidden Sunspear Base" on the main continent.

There is a weapon merch outside that location (south). However all his items are 5k each. They are better than what I currently have, but are they worth that much? Could I buy better gear from other players? I have about 10k, which would be gone for 2 items ... not enough for myself and the heros ...

Shoudl I buy there?
Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Those weapons are helpful in one aspect, they are fully moddable. This means you can add weapon modifiers (also called upgrade components) you will encounter on other weapons to those weapons.

However, in your stage of the game, you would be better off getting a collector weapon, or waiting for some nice drop along the way.

You could also ask around in your guild if someone has a nice unique (also called 'green, for their green font ) to spare. Most of them are with max stats, and can sell for less than 5k.

Also, you might have bought a special edition of Guild Wars. If so, try typing /bonus in your chatscreen. This might give you a lot of handy weapons.

I think (not 100% sure) that all max weapons at weaponsmiths cost 5k + materials. I wouldn't advise you to buy weapons from weaponsmiths. You can get them yourself from drops or buy cheap max weapons from other players / guildies. If a guildie does raptorfarming, for instance, he/she will get a lot of worthless but max inscribable weapons. Otherwise you can also check out collectors who give out max weapons for collectible trophies.

In 4 years of playing, I've never once seen any reason at all to use the weaponsmiths. They require 5-10k and materials to craft, and need up to 3 mods as well. A unique/green weapon is often much much cheaper, especially if they're easily farmable, and come fully modded. I wouldn't be surprised if the weaponsmith cost 3-4 times as much as the green would (not to mention the 'Forget me not' inscription, which is ~20k).

I would suggest just waiting until u find better weapons from just drops or chests. especially if ur so strapped for cash.

Mmm, I am a bit in trouble with (without) money a bit. I noticed I can get a new armor in the Sunspear Sanctuary (60 armor pts), but these require rare materials which cost 100g each.

Any tips re the economy? Most drops I get only sell for 20-30g

I found some dyes , but the dye trader offers only 10g for ea. 3x or, 10x purp, 12x green + 9 ye.

If you are a new player, money can sometimes be an issue. However, by just picking up all the stuff that monsters drop and selling it, you should be able to make sufficient money.

Additionally, blue/purple/gold items can be identified. Especially important for making money is identifying armor as it has runes that can be salvaged with an expert salvage kit. Some of these runes (radiant, minor strength etc.) can be sold at a rune-merchant for far more than the price at a regular merchant. Further, some items are "highly salvageable" which means that you get extra materials if you use a salvaging kit.

I hope that helps.

There are different kind of armor in Guild Wars, but none of them are better, statswise.

The armor in Sunspear Sanctuary provides 60 AL (or armor points), and that is all that matters. Armor with the same stats can be bought in Consulate Docks (you should already have passed that point), so you just need to find the cheapest of the 60 AL armor and buy that one.

All the armor you will encounter from now on won't be better, just different in appearance (prestige armor).

Tips for making money. Identify all items and sell it to the merchants. In this stage of the game you aren't in need of heaps of money, just be sure to buy the cheapest stuff you can find.

Don't sell dye to merchant. You can get much more by selling to other players.

You get materials by salvaging white items. You can check the wiki for each one until you learn which give you the materials you need or are worth the most. Use a regular salvage kit to salvage white items; only use the Expert Salvage Kit on colored items.

Don't sell materials to the merchant; always sell to the Crafting Materials NPC.
Don't sell salvaged runes or insignia to the merchant; always sell to the Rune Trader.

It takes time to learn how it all works, but before long it will be automatic.

When not at Aziure's Wizard Tower you can find my in Belgium

Knigths of the Keyboard Order - KkO

If you want cheap and fun full modable weapons, get yourself the mission bonus pack, and do a 1 of the 4 mission and you'll get a nice golden weapon on which you can mod the way you like it (you'll only need to get the mods for it from players or from drops).

Personally I love my Tengu weapons collection! They rock

RE weapons crafters - Most if the time you can buy max weapons from other players (about 1k or less for a common skin), so the crafters are a bit expensive at this point in your game. I've often bought weapons from the crafters for heroes or myself, when I've wanted a weapon now, but I had lots of gold and materials at the time.

As has been said, you should have gotten 60AL armor from Consulate Docks already. The armor from the crafter(s) in the Sanctuary is just a fancier, more expensive skin.

As you progress through the game you will find that the drops start to be worth more to the merchant, and you will also get better drops (golds) that can have better mods and/or be worth more to sell to other players.

There are only a few dyes that are worth any real amount - black, white, silver (I think). With dyes, in general, you are better off keeping them for personal use (they stack), or selling to other players, rather than selling them to the dye trader.
