Possible to 'bond' Dhuum?
Windf0rce
I was with my team in the UW last night and noticed that I casted Protective Spirit on Dhuum right before he became hostile, he kept the enchantment until the duration expired.
I wonder if I brought a maintainable enchantment, I could cast on him before he hostiles the the team and maintain it during the fight.
Would be funny to bond him with Life Attunement and reduce his attack damage by 30%.

I wouldn't bring one specific skill to "Bond" Dhuum with unless it's actually going to be on your bar helping the team throughout the entirety of UW. Especially as the duration would be negligable compared to the length of the entire fight.
Bristlebane
Essence Bond for a lil free energy :-)
Nah, Coolpb is right.

MagmaRed
Retribution and Holy Wrath paired with Life Barrier and Life Bond. Let your team figure out why they are dying faster and not doing much damage.

Hmm why would the duration be negligible? I'm talking about a maintainable enchantment, which theoretically would last the entire fight unless I died or stopped upkeeping it. :P

But would a maintainable enchant remain applied after that "Ally" became hostile? Once he turns hostile isn't he no longer an "Ally"?
And is there a way to test this somewhere other than after an hour to an hour 1/2 worth of work to get to Dhuum?
EDIT: Thoughts after posting, trying this on a charmable animal perhaps then attacking them?
Edit 2: Convieniently LA does not increase health gained from Life stealing, which is precisely what Dhuum does.

Captain Bohseda is one such example, and he is located conveniently at the beginning of the Moddok Crevice mission.
I don't have an answer to the question, nor have I tested enchantments on foes like this one who begin as allies. It should be a simple test to perform. It is also possible that Dhuum has unique scripting unlike other foes, so testing other NPCs may be pointless.

As I recall hexes stay on your target if they switch from being an enemy to an ally, (cast a hex on an enemy minion then steal it, it's still hexed), would seem off if it didn't work in the opposite direction with enchantments. Of course then a-net would fix another Pet "bug."
Lukyboy
iirc, bonds will keep on allies turning to foes. So yes if you bond him with E-bond, you'd get free energy. Not confirmed though

Used LA in this test. The enchantment remained until he died.

The only question is, and those of you that have fought Dhuum will know what I'm talking about, when he is popping in and out of the ground during his skill Reaping Of Dhuum is he actually going "out of range" and therefore the enchant ends w/o obviously the ability to cast it on him again?

This could easily be tested with say holy wrath or essense bond in eye of the north with the norn guys who challenge you to a fight. As far as life attunement goes, if your party used an ER healer, they usually always already have it on their bar, so it could work really well.

Thanks for testing, I'm at work without GW to test on. This is awesome.
Another cool thing about bonding Dhuum with LA is that LA gives the 30% damage reduction on attacks without requiring any specs so any character with Monk secondary could do it (or, like said above, some Ele healer who brings it anyway).
Now to ponder if the -1 Energy regen is worth the perma -30% damage, considering not all of Dhuum's damage comes from attacks, but spells and summons too. Plus if bonder dies, it cannot be put up again.
Edit: Coolbp, the range for bond upkeep is really much larger than Dhuum's room, I don't think he can get out of range.

The range I know well, plenty of 600/smiting in my time. What I'm saying is that when he his doing Reaping of Dhuum his foe name completely disapears and it's impossible to target/attack him at all. Does this mean that the enchant is removed?
Covah
With the old UA you could cast it on a flesh golem along with strength and honor etc, have the MM die and have him cast another but the UA keeps his bonds on the rogue golem. Should be able to maintain enchants on dhuum until monk dies.
David Wooding
How much damage does he do with actual attacks though because that's all Life Attunement affects, all his skills are monster skills, so the damage done by them wouldn't be affected.

This would depend,I have never fought Dhuum (haven't had a chance to play in some months) but when you fight him and he disappears, does the minimap enemy indicator of him disappear? If it does, then the enchantment will end, if it doesn't, it should remain active.
majikmajikmajik
dhuum doesnt deal damage he steals right? so it wouldnt matter anyway and you would be making it harder to kill him

Didnt read the whole thread but
If you cast LA on dhuum it stays on him for a shortw while after the fight starts, but when he uses the teleport skills or something like that, it gets canceled.

lol I wonder if it would be possible to scorpion wire dhuum before you teleports, so you could follow him where ever..
