Elite Areas, Harder Missions, Harder Dungeons

I have completed Prohpecies, Factions, Nightfall and Eye of the North. I usually play solo with heroes and henchmen. I usually do the Zaishen Mission and Bounties with my main toon in HM. I have paid to go on several harder dungeon runs when I was not cash poor.

The Zaishen Mission and Bounties make me feel like the little kid on a school playground. Who is going to be picked next for the pickup game? Occasionally, you get a leader who wants to rebuild everyone's skill bars'.
If the Zaishen Mission/Bounty reward is 10,000 xp, then I usually skip because it it not worth the hassle and prep time.

I have been trying to understand guild and alliance dynamics. I now suspect that guilds and alliances provide the potential for forming teams . My perception is the elite areas are very similar to the harder Zaishen Mission/Bounties, lots of waiting around hoping to be picked for a team.

Another poster created a topic asking about the Underworld so I finally decided to post this topic. I don't really know what I am asking, so feel free to respond anyway you want. What is involved in getting picked for an elite area team? What is the role /function of a guild/alliance in dungeon runs, elite missions/quests, other?

Looking at this another way, "What's next for the gw player who until now usually plays solo? What is the easiest way to make the transition from solo play to team play?

Your guild/alliance is supposed to be there to help with whatever is going on. whether a dungeon party is being created or missions being done. As far as being picked for an elite area it all depends on what is needed by the party leader. sometimes you have people that want only certain professions or others who don't care what you bring. although it should be noted that a party doesn't want doubled characters a lot of the times. and if someone can bring only a ranger because that's all they can bring then someone else should be able to bring an ele, or necro or whatever even though they may want to bring their ranger. Do the elite area again with the understanding that you get to bring the character of choice that time and someone else brings whats needed. If you are in a guild/alliance then planning what night or day to do the elite area helps instead of just standing around in town/outpost waiting for a party, if it's a z-bounty then it's a bit easier to do. if you have a character that you are working on in titles be the party leader and then choose through the party window who you want to bring. As far as you saying that the leader will want to change skill bars....some of the time that individual may have a better grasp as to what to expect in the elite area and what will work best. The suggestions should be taken into consideration as well as what you want to run. If you are going from solo player to team player join a guild. keep people on your friends list and invite them to do do the elite areas or dungeons. Me and my co-leader are always up for dungeons. PM me in game Neith Bow Mistress or Silence and Despair (co-leader) we have a variety of characters that are able to do these areas. we are in Central Standard Time and we do have a vent server if you want to join us on there. It's a lot more fun being with people then heroes.

A guild and alliance gives you an opportunity to interact with a group of (potentially) like minded players. So if you are looking to do elite areas, look for a guild that has members who like the same. Same goes for most aspects of the game; PVP, speedclears, dungeons, missions, or just hanging around and chatting, or whatever.

Different guilds work in different ways. Some organise regular quests/events/missions/whatever. Some act like a pool for PUGs.
Some focus on PVP, in one or all of its various forms.

Some are just glorified realtime chat tools

Join a guild, get to know the members, see if you like them and they like you, and go from there. As wth any social group you may not find the right guild first time round, but then again you may do.

get into one of the big "1000+ member" guilds and you'll be pugging areas in no time.

what Neith said - only with paragraphs :P

All guilds are different but in most it is easier to make friends and get involved in outings if you make the effort to talk in guild chat.

If you are pugging, try and chat to the people you are with and add to your friends list anyone you like. Eventually you will want to join someones guild - just ask

Randomly joining guilds, when you do not already know people there, can work but I found it more difficult.

I am usually on in the evenings (GMT) for a guild run, PM me in game Aeronwen Trewent if you would like to join us for a dungeon or so
