what to do now? (ranger issue)

I apologize for the misleading title, but I didn't know what else to put there

I enjoy playing Guild Wars very much, and I've been doing HM vanquishing/missions with a friend lately. I've been doing this as a ranger. this ranger was my second account I've ever had and I've completed Nightfall and Factions on it. this character is female. 've been playing this account for around 2 years now. now I feel like I've matured a bit more, I kinda feel guilty for playing a female character while I'm not a female in real life. (am I the first to admit it?) I've been hearing alot of critics on this all around the internet about this issue (men playing female characters)

for example this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPKAU...eature=related

so like 3 months ago I got all fed up with Guild Wars, I decided to buy aion and start over (guild wars got boring, too much UWSC'ing I guess )

now Aion's getting boring since none of my friends play it, and since I'm not a native english speaking person, I find it difficult to chat using Ventrilo etc. with native people. so I got back to Guild Wars.

I still got worth for 25 euros of paysafecards though. so I wanted to spend this on Guild Wars, already got 1 additional storage pane, got all campaigns and bonus campaigns, got plenty of unlocked elite skills / items. So i spend it on a extreme makeover and a namechange.

I already got elite studded armor for my female ranger http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Gallery_of_female_ranger_Elite_Studded_Leather_arm or

and vabbian armor as well http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Galle..._Vabbian_armor

so because I feel like I need to change her to male, I kinda feel crappy about the armors, they suck for male characters.

so my question was really (and please only answer if you've read most of this post) would you go male, which armors to buy (except primeval/obsidian ofcourse, as everyone wears those), and your opinion about the whole male playing female thing going on at the moment.

thanks.

p.s. I was thinking about getting ancient/primeval armor, but that's pretty mainstream. and obsidian is too expensive at the moment.

Playing female characters has nothing to do with you. I have a total of 12 characters and 2 of those where males. I bought a kit and changed my monk to female.

All my friends know that I'm a male in real life. I think the problem you are referring is to some people who try to trick you into believing they are females when they are not. If you tell them straight up to your guildies or pugs there's no problem.

Guys playing girls - don't care either way, do what you want.

Armor for male rangers - always go for the long coats. That would include Ancient, Monument, or Deldrimor (Leather Long Coat), or basic Krytan.

I'm not sure why you'd feel guilty. Out of the 5 characters on my account that I play, two of them are female. I choose character gender based on the model and armor choices. My warrior, for instance, is female. This has nothing to do with any sort of weird RP'ing - I just think that the male warrior model looks preposterous.

Well I am male and play both Male and Female characters.

Partly because of my origins in tabletop roleplaying games where this was quite common.
Partly also because I really hate the look of some male characters and indeed the dance.

Male necros look quite retarded imo much rather have the female version.

This. My main character is a female necro and I'm a guy.

Norn armor or primevil armor is probably the best looking armor for male ranger, I have them both and switch. My PvP armor is ancient as that looks good too. I currently have a Norn Woad for the Norn armor.

As for male to female, I play a male ranger and like the female ranger more. If it did not cost anything, I would switch to female ranger. I am a male in real life.

I'm a male IRL and out of my 10 characters, 6 of them are females originating from Factions. Why? Because I think they look hot. Period.

It's an RPG, you role play whatever you like

I got 4 or 5 female charas, most wearing skimpy armors.

I find the female ranger far superior to the male ranger. I don't really mind what sex my character is, I choose them for the armor combinations and the attacking/casting animations.

If you are honestly uncomfortable with having a female ranger then thats fine, there is no reason why you have to keep it that way. If you still wish to change it to male then I'd suggest Ancient, Norn or Monument armor, since those are all in my opinion the best looking.

I realize that you may have your own issues with playing as a female character and that is okay, but if you are changing just because you are scared of what others think of you then please don't feel pressured into changing into something you don't want.

You could stay female. But if you do choose to change to a male ranger, I would suggest getting Elite Drakescale. My ranger has it, he is a super pimp in it. And I have noticed almost no other ranger wearing Elite Drakescale. If you want a unique looking ranger, by God, Elite Drakescale is the way to go.

I chose my characters gender AFTER I've researched their armor and figured out how I would want them to look.

I honestly don't see the big issue.

Any character you play is a bunch of pixels. I don't see why playing a bunch of pixels designated "male" is somehow more acceptable for a real life male than playing a bunch of pixels designated "female" would be.

You always have to assume that the person behind the screen may be very different than the avatar you see. I mean, I may play a Sylvari in GW2, but surprisingly in real life I'm not a Sylvari...

I just don't see how in a game that's 100% pretend anyway, making your pretend character a different gender from yourself would be taboo. It's just one more element of the fantasy of the roleplay.

ETA: By the way, having just watched your video-- it's just a joke, not some kind of unspoken rule. For example, my boyfriend's main GW character is female. I don't think you should let the "can't get a date" stereotype interfere with your fun, because it's really not factual.

Oola, Elder Rhea, Shiro's fortune teller... that's a GILF threeway I'd want no part of...

As for the OP, I think Norn is quite popular for rangers of either gender... but you know, browse the armor galleries and find one you like. Or... don't change character gender, your call.

Seem to remember a poll done some years back listing player sex and whether they played male female or both.

It could probably be found if anyone wanted to know the result

thank you all for your replies I've decided to stay female for now. but I've already bought the makeover and namechange so in case I decide otherwise I'll have the opportunity to do so. I feel much more comfortable playing a female character now, though the whole pretending to be a female RP'ing still kinda freaks me out :P

I know you've already decided, but I also don't see the problem. Male ranger aren't even awesome imo
I'm female, all my chars are female (except sometimes pvp) but that doesn't mean they are anything like me. Most of them are blonde and some have brown eyes, my ranger even has dark skin, brown hair, brown eyes, I have blue/blackish hair and blue eyes and a quite pale skin... So why would just the gender matter? Chars hardly look like you anyways ^^ Same would go for most males, otherwise guildwars has some really muscular players, with beards
And I know it wasn't a question or anything, but try not to be shy to speak on things like vent, native speakers will hear an accent no matter how amazing your english is, they should understand and if your pronounciation is completely wrong they can kindly ask you to type it... if they can't handle non-native speakers, they aren't really worth playing with imo ^^

Good choice. Some people seem to mistake In-game Avatar and Ingame personality. The avatar doesn't matter, and any guy pretending to be female (outside of actual RP) is idiotic, at best in any situation. IMO at least.

As the saying goes : If you're going to stare at a character for 100+ hours, it might as well be pleasing to the eye. (no perverse idea entended)

And as bloss said, don't be too affraid of vent. Unless you simply havetrouble understanding and speaking. Trust us you'll alway sound weird in a way or another. OUt of curiosity, what's your primary language?

I know you're staying female, but I'd still like to share a few words.

Just let people over the internet get you down. Who cares what some people over the internet think. I have 4 females, 3 male characters. I pick the females because they have good armors for their profs, and same for guys.

But, if you're a female character just to look at the ass, then I personally think something is wrong.

My male Ranger has Obsidian armor, which was the only ranger armor I liked at the time. Since then, there are some other ranger armors (and/or combos of armor) I like, but they are not "elite" armors (regular Istani for example)
I have several female characters and I admit that sometimes it feels a bit weird to be playing a female, but there's a couple of things to be considered.
1. Female characters often have the best looking armor and/or body styles. For example, my warrior is a female because I didn't want my warrior to be a big hulking himbo, but all the male warrior models are. (btw, I also have a female ranger, but it's just a storage mule.)
2. It is just a fantasy game. You are not really playing a female or male character - beyond looks (and voice overs in cut scenes) there is no real gender differentiation in behavior or biology. A male playing a female character still has no real sense of what it's like to be female, and vice versa. All characters are "it"s rather than "he"s or "she"s.

In GW2 (if it ever arrives) my main characters will be male, but I'm sure to have a couple of female characters too. Just to play dress-up if nothing else.

The reason i chose to play my char's as female is because if im going to have to look at that char's bum when i play, it may as well be a nice looking female one. Plus the female's have much better armor for most classes. The only male char i have is my Warrior and with krytan armor and my guild cape he looks really cool and the cape covers up the butt so i dont have to look at it.

It is a game, just remember that most gamers are male and when you talk to any females in game, treat them like "one of the guys" and your good to go. Get into the weird emo chat crap that the younger players do and you might get dissapointed that the hot ele you have been talking to is really some 16 year old pimple faced dude getting a good laugh about tricking online people.

The younger gamers dont have any scruples, manors or etiquette usually, as so much of their world is impersonal, it is how they expect everyone else to be.
