oh, and obsidian looks pretty nice on female rangers too, but that's just me.
oppsie. i forgot to add ranger female to my list too. that armor is cute too one of the "rare" armors that dont have a butt ugly should piece on it. i dont think they will do any special then beyond a title and a few items. but better to be safe then sorry.

I doubt anyone really thinks HoM will give anything "special" in GW2 (although a decent level weapon might be useful when starting out - at least for PvE anyway).

It would be "nice" to take one mini of our choice into the new game from ones that had been dedicated - but that would involve a lot of programming I suppose so thats a wish rather than anything else.

It will probably be a decent weapon and a special dance or emote.

I like fow female necro too myself.. about the only one tbh.. at some stage I really need to go get a set.

As far as ectos are concerned, I guess chaos gloves have done the trick and kept pulling ectos out of the system. If anet really want to mess with the market, they'll introduce chaos boots at the same time as an SF nerf /grins.

The fact is, even if most people like the FoW armor only in 1 or 2 player classes, it already generates demand.

Example: I think FoW is horrendous on female Mesmers, since I noticed there's a clipping issue in the middle of her butt as she runs (*faints*), and when standing her legs are as thin as toothpicks. I'll pass, but I know people who like it. However, I tend to like Monk and Paragon FoW, which some people hate, and the cycle reapeats itself -with someone always liking some of the sets, and making new chars, so the demand is always there.

Chaos Gloves only add to it and we all know how common they are - being common didn't put me off from getting them, I like shiny things.

I'm curious as to what will happen to Ecto prices, it is fun to see where this goes.

Edit: At everyone trolling the HoM and GW2, I don't believe anyone is getting FoW and other fancy stuff only because of the possible rewards. People just want to have fun and show off, and now - look at Chaos Gloves, they aren't even displayable in the HoM and lots of people get them simply because they like it - not because of GW2 or HoM... or else everyone would be saving up for actually displayable monuments...

Spiteful much? All you can do today in GW is getting shinny armor skins or titles with no importance to stats. Yet that's what keeps most busy 4.5 years after launch still. Go figure.

buhu. people buy ectos because most people are full of money. i buy ectos because platinum is no way near as useful as ectos when trading. the 'farmers' are who is making the ecto prices go up because they see their chance to get out of poverty. the people who are clever will just keep going up in stacks of ectos no matter if sf gets nerfed or not.
say i have 1000 ectos now, all bought for 6k, and i sell all for 8k (if when they go up) , i will still have to buy them again for around 8k, so the 'high rollers' will not be making any money from this.

so the conclusion is: only people with 1000k or less are going to make a profit here, and only if they dont buy new ectos again. this is a illusion for the 'farmers' while the 'corporations' dont care .

do expect a small drop in price a while after the actual nerf. its only raising b/c people are rushing for ecto.

I've always looked at the HoM like achievements for xbox or trophies for ps3.
So anything I get from it is pretty cool Imo.

Let's talk a little bit about how the price is set at the trader, shall we?

Purchases from the trader cause the price to rise; sales cause it to fall. The trader seems to have pretty wide tolerances on what will cause a rise or a fall. If you see prices rising at the trader, it means that many more people want to buy them even at the trader price than want to sell for the lower current player-to-player price.

Usually it's a lack of sellers, rather than a massive influx of buyers, that sparks these bubbles. People see the price start to rise, withdraw their ectos from the market and wait for further rises, knowing that (at least for a while) other people will rationally do the same. Eventually, some people start to pile on and buy, gambling that ecto will go up at least a couple of plat further so that they can turn a profit reselling it. End result: a boom.

The trouble is that there are so many ectos already out there that once the boom plays out, people will start cashing them in droves and drive the price back down. It's hard to think of a speculative bubble in Guild Wars that ever resulted in a higher end price for a currency item. Rubies and sapphires came closest to fitting that, but the underlying value of those items legitimately changed when an armor crafter using them was added.

It's more likely that you'll see the price of ecto fall back to "normal" levels and see the rate at which minis and such inflate level off somewhat. Still, the chaos presents an opportunity for the bold to make money via arbitrage.

Hopefully this will happen on Christmas.

Very ironic and I would LOVE to see this happen (because I have all my cash in SHARDS lulz)

I've never really understood why lockpicks aren't more used for trade currency.

Using a nonfluctuating value of 1200 gp (or 1250...), trades up to 2 million gold could be performed.

ectos are more easily (or rather, more predictably) farmed than lockpicks.

You make a persuasive argument, Vyral!

My answer to your entirely logical question: convention, most likely. And that's about it.

As for the thread topic... meh, it happens. Speculations rise and fall, and with them the prices of pink squishies tends to fluctuate. I'm hoarding a little bit just in case, but more than likely it'll pan out just like every other time.

EDIT: moriz is correct as well. Although we know that the bulk lockpick sales folks have a consistent way to access faction-controlled outpost traders, and someone will always control those, so it's not like it will ever be completely inaccessible.

I believe all of this price inflation of ectos is based on old schoolers speculation (3-4 year hardcore players), who are so mindbent on ectos being the only way to handle the 100k player/1m chest gold/plat limits.

However, Nightfall brought the ruby and sapphire stacks into play. And of course PvP zkeys are a nice source of high value stacks. I personally prefer nick present stacks as a good source of gold storage, as well as the most useful conset consumable (BU/celerity)...

You've provided the reason in your own question post. Each lockpick is only worth 1/4 to 1/5 of other 'high quality' items, resulting in inventory stacks worth 1/4 to 1/5 of what they potentially could be...

I'm going to find it funny when people realize that you only needed "any" 5 sets of elite armor will get a unique in game item, possibly a unique starting armor design that will only last for around 5 levels of gameplay.

My best guess is that you will get a unique item from each monument you filled out.
1 unique title (you only needed 5 titles)
1 unique set of starter armor (you only need 5 to be filled out)
1 unique skin set of in game starter weapons (200k worth of materials will get you your weapons monument filled out)
1 unique mini pet (any 20 minipets including whites)
1 unique companion option (any 5 elite armor henchmen)

I disagree, there's the Gwamm track which makes the HOM change as you progress . there's also the mention of the elite areas you've conquered. Those 2 things could add something possibly reallly cool. ie, get a new dancing emotes, sparkles, etc, a God aura perhaps. but they're there for a reason, we just don't know what. and I doubt that the HOM elite armor would only be the starter armor. It's actually probably gonna be the ascension point armor like the 1.5k but "elite"

Probably gonna be something like this. Perhaps the chance to craft a max customised version of the bonus skins though, but I doubt there'll be anythig else.
