Hi, my time is really restricted as I have a baby, however I would like to complete cartographer on those sleepless nights, I have downloaded Cartography made easy.tpf, however this is where the fun begins, I can not open the GW.dat file, if this is where I am supposed to go into to add the mod.. Please forgive my complete illiteracy with all things PC wise.
My operating system is windows vista home premium.
If somebody could help me with a guide that would be great, as I mentioned before my time is very limited. I have already checked guides on guildwiki etc, but can't make sense of them, so a complete idiots guide is what I need. Also do I need to open the the .tpf file also, if so then I need help with that too. I have already scanned the download and it is clean..
All help is very much appreciated,
oh and if somebody has asked this before please forgive me for posting it again...
Ty Gennadios, it seems to be working a lot of the map is now covered in a transluscent glaze, hope fully this is it now, sigh' 1 greatful gamer.
Ty all very much for all and any help contributed...

Nono, you're missing a step in between.

Check one of the links for the program download. The actual wiki page is really dense and technical garbage, but the program itself should be easy to use.
Texmod will ask you which dat file you want to run, go to the GW directory and choose GW.dat, then load one of the 3 textures into it. Unfortunately I no longer have it installed so I can't give better directions, but once you have the program running it'll make sense.

As Gennadios said, you need to download texmod as well as the cartograophy tpf. When you run texmod, in the upper section, click the folder icon and find your gw.exe file, usually at c:\program files\guild wars\gw.exe. In the middle section, click the folder icon between the two large boxes, and fine the cartography tpf file you downloaded. Then click the run button at the bottom. It may take guild wars a tiny bit longer to load, depending on your system, but once you get your character logged in, you'll see the mod in action.
Occasionally, there will be graphical errors, such as misshappen shadows, map pieces in the distance like trees, or your entire screen replace with another texture. These glitches are an unfortunate side effect of texmod, but have no impact on your game. Just tab out of guild wars, or minimize if running in windowed mode, to fix the glitch.
Good luck, and happy mapping.

hi there, i am also completely useless with computers, and want my mapping title. I have done all the above steps, and clicked 'run' on texmod. However, the maps are unchanged, with no ''translucent haze'' as desribed. AVG- my anti-virus software, clarifies texmod as a trojan, but i told it to ignore it. I am on Dx10, with windows vista.
Any suggestions?
Many Thanks,
Rev

Revilo- try adding texmod to a virus vault or whatever rather than clicking ignore and try again, or re-download the mod from the site. I had to redownload a mod once or twice because it randomly stopped working. Also, if you have an outdated mod its possible it wonr work because the image addresses always change in GW with a few updates.

One other thing. There are map overlays for (1) Tyria + EotN, (2) Cantha and (3) Elona. There is also a version of the map overlay that has all of the areas (basically it runs a file that has all of the data from all 3 of these overlays at the same time). I found that the file using the overlays the maps for all 3 continents at the same time had some glitches, both in the way of some graphical anomalies and it sometimes had some difficulty running smoothly with the game. For that reason, I would suggest loading only one continent map at a time. Then, to load a different map, simply exit the game completely and then load the next map mod.
Good luck!
