Regardless of good or bad, Anet's new trend seems to be based upon microtransactions; BMP, Storage Tabs, Appearence Changes... and now costume purchases.
But what about old festival hats? Through my years in GW I have missed hats here and there, that I really wish I hadn't.. I might have been too busy or simply forgotten about them.
What if Anet started offering invididual, or packs (maybe by year) of festival hats to be available for purchase through the in game store? A small price, such as 99 cents, or 1.99 per hat could potentially attract alot of buyers. I know many people who wish they were able to get the santa hat, or the witch's hat, or the pumpkin crown and many other hats to collect them all if nothing more.
This also would allow players a more flexible mean of getting their hat. Because let's be honest, during the holiday seasons how many of us are traveling; or how many of us go on business trips throughout the year? We can't always be on Guild Wars and I for one would not mind paying a buck or two for some of my favorite hats.
Post yay/neigh in regards to the idea of offering festival hats through the in game store. Not yay/neigh regarding if microtransactions are good or bad.

As much as I would like them; /notsigned.
First off, I don't like micro transactions. Second off, then the people who already have the hats would be cheated and wouldn't be really look on as "wow, he was there when this event happened a long time ago." |
I think the same logic should be applied to festival hats, since the "wow" thing is e-peen and pathetic, and some hats that I missed due to obligations or computer issues look BETTER on my character than any armor hat.

Just as a note, you can still charm last year's jingle bear if you complete this year's EoTN quests in addition to the white jingle moa.

Don't get me wrong, I'm mad I didn't get the Mummy Mask and Witch Hat, as I was gone during those festivals. But, I will live.

Besides, I don't want them for any sort of lame e-peen prestige lol, its more like I'd like to be able to dress appropriately for the event, and wearing the same witches hat every year is annoying lol.
Besides, a few PvE quests to allow hat unlocks would be easy content to create, and definitely something a lot of people would be interested in.
As much profit and pleasure this would cause for gw players who have missed hats here and there, I just can't sign. Reason being that people with the first year hats somehow show that they're experienced players/ they've been playing the game for a long time. These people would be cheated out of taking the time to get every hat since the game started, so, even though I would really love to have all the hats, I unfortunately am not signing.
I just think this is cheating those people out of their veteran(ship?).

Something I WOULD like to see though is the people can buy hats according to how old their account is. (ie if they started b4 the first wintersday, they can buy all the hats, etc). This prevents veterans from getting cheated out of their time to the game and helps to hopefully keep both sides happy.

I would absolutely love this, as i have missed out on numerous hats.
Even though i have had my account since day of launch i only have the festival hats from this year. This is mainly due to the fact that this has been the first year in the past 4/5 that i haven't been working over 70 hours a week.
So personally i would love to be able to get all those hats that i have missed out on due to IRL obligations. And if i have to pay a SMALL amount then i don't see the problem.

There are several hats that I would have loved to have. Unfortunately, my own fault for missing them, and the changes that make them viable to wear in explorables make them all the more precious. Out of respect for ppl that have been playing for ages, and have the items to show for it, I'll have to say that it's better that the hat-train passed us by.
The grenth/dwayna costumes are one thing, but being able to retroactively buy discontinued designs is uncomfortably close to the "money makes up for lack of effort" mentality of alot of micro transaction games.
