Anyone think this is a possibility?
Maker of the fallen
So with the addition of some new slots for costumes and masks in the latest update, I have to wonder, does anyone think we might get costumes in future events? Just a thought, and if you do think they might have costumes for future events, what costumes would you like to see?
Thanks &

Of course they will release new outfits, I doubt Anet would spend time developing such an addition to the equipment system to only release two costumes. Anet is a business, and businesses like to make money. The more costumes they release to take advantage of this new system, the more money they will make off of the masses that are willing to waste their money on useless, purely cosmetic items.
Black Metal
yeah this isn't the end of this. I'm positive there will be more micro transaction costumes, I hope there will be content reward costumes. Time will tell on the latter.

I want to see a Yukata. Although a Kimono is more likely since Canthan New Years takes place when it is cold.
You can call me a japfag, but you can't deny how baddass men's kimonos are, and you can't deny how sexy kimonos for ladies are either!

So do I, but any costume that can be acquired without paying ArenaNet is a loss of money for them - not just from potential buyers, but from people who would have also bought other costumes but decided to pay nothing at all and get the ingame one instead.
Weeaboo, actually.
Definitely weeaboo.

Yukata or Kimono have nothing to do with Lunar new year...
If anything it is better tied to the western new year which in GW is the Wintersday.
But having the rest of the Lion costume to dance around for Canthan new year would be great.
(Free Lion mask, then 250 Lunar token for Lion Costume or something like that )

absolutely there will be new costumes. i forsee them for the canthan new year and without a doubt halloween!
Lishy
Right.
And what if someone actually was Japanese? Would you still be calling the person a weeaboo?
Not everyone who speaks English with a knowledge of Japanese culture is an obsessive Hikikomori over it. Careful with your words before calling names I say!
But from the way I see it, the whole situation is just like Furries vs Trolls. In the end, we're all nerds.
And if that doesn't convince you of anything, Regina, Guild Wars' biggest "weeaboo", will come kick your ass and chew bubble gum
To my knowledge, unless things have changed there, Kimonos actually are worn during new years in Japan. However, you are correct in the fact Yukata are not worn since they are summer clothing
But it would be nice to wear some traditional festive clothing in Guild Wars when awaiting the Celestial Animal rather than heavy suits of armor.

Yes, they will probably make costumes for future events.
I would like to see costumes representing the other gods. Melandru most of all.

I'd pay like $100 to see my Monk in a kimono.

ANet is on a pure micro-payment business model now. The old chapter every 6 months model is dead, so yes, expect a lot more of this.
And by encouraging more people to go through the store there will be a lot more account hacks, so even more people having to buy the game again. /sarcasm

Corsair costume for "Talk like a pirate day"? Mad king costume for Halloween?
Winterclaw
I just hope they make masks a costume-hat slot item.
isildorbiafra
I think the costumes look faggity sofar. I would'nt mind shedding 50 euro for some of the rare miniatures though.

Ill think there will be costumes for further events , but Im not really excited about it and im not prepared to pay real cash in order to get those.
I'd rather like a quest chain in order to get them

Shadowspawn X
There will be more costumes for sure, but because they are not related to any actual game activity like quests or achievements they have little appeal. Only the barbie doll dress up crowd would be interested. If the 10 bucks unlocked a quest chain with the costume as a reward it would have more appeal to players who like collecting trophies.
Windf0rce
It's best to not underestimate this crowd, however - it seems to be a large of number of players that care about it. I've been running around and seeing people in the new costumes all the time. I mean, all the time really - yesterday I was mapping a nearly deserted outpost (Aurious Mines) and there was a Ranger in Grenth costume.
So I think the introduction of costumes is a major success money wise, and we should be happy to see ANet being successful. I care to some extent about items, so I'm getting the costumes soon, not only for my personal enjoyment but also a way to support ANet and show my appreciation.
We could even use a different approach and quote:
"Only the hardcore/PvPers/free2play purists would not be interested."
Because a good part of the game population is getting it.

But yeah, I'd love to see some kind of samurai style Kimono, that'd be very cool.
But more importantly, I'd hope we see some stuff like this added for free. I have no problem with the microtransaction model, and I assume we are still just going to get holiday headgear this Wintersday, but some full on costumes in the future would be great.
I remember a lot of people suggesting things like a ghost costume for Halloween, and we now have the perfect oppertunity for things like that, instead of just being limited to headgear.
Covah
Who knows, the hats for this wintersday might be costumes.

AngelWJedi
nope i dont see them making us free costumes. if they were going to make them theses dwayna and grenth would have been free. so only those will shell out money for stuff you can do for free with texmod will buy them.
My New Name
i just hope future costumes wont be pay-to-get again...
Lishy
An awesome Halloween costume would be Ghostly Hero
People have been asking for an armor like that for awhile, and it would look baddass with E-blades and E-Shields.

I can just see it now Leet drops from end chest Ultra Rare Costumes
Antons armor would be nice

I hope so - I'd love to see appearance items. What I really like in Aion is at lvl 30 your appearance outfit can take on your armor stats. and they have some really pretty outfits in Aion. But in Aion you use game gold (kinah) and they aren't cheap lol.
RTSFirebat
Well on the plus side the new slots mean you no longer have to have a 0 AP headgear when travelling in places like the UW or DoA
Yol
I still like using 0 AP headgear on my 600 monk when I 600/smite in the UW......how much longer I'll be able to do that will depend on the outcome of the next skill update possibly, but yes, it is nice to run around with festive headgear and not suffer from the 0 armour on other characters.
w00t!

naw i think instead of kimono should be for women but men should wear Gi
<--- first dan kendo
be nice to see :P
The Drunkard
Considering factions carries an asian theme, it could be possible. Methinks it might just be a reskin of canthan peasants though if they were to implement it, so that it doesn't seem prejudiced to the Japanese.

On a side note, does anyone think that there will be less intricate, free costumes?
If they were to do that, I would like to see a skele costume on halloween, or as someone else mentioned, a MKT costume would be awesome.

Not sure about free costumes; maybe, but I wouldn't have my hopes too high.
It looks like the costumes are a lot of work to do, with male/female versions to each profession (20 models per costume), made to work with every animation, it is certainly not something small. The costumes don't change the character model like tonics do, so they really did the costume for each male/female model.
On topic, I love costumes and I can't wait for more of them (already).
My Monk in Grenth's costume is something really amazing, it is a great change from usual armor. Looks nothing like a Monk, more like a necro or chinese mafia guy (with Asuran slim/tinted spectacles ftw, lol). Someone told me I was looking like Auron from FFX. That's badass enough for a Monk. :P
I can't even imagine how awesome would be a Lyssa costume. Or Balthazar costume. Looking like a Mesmer or more Warrior-ish would be most certainly awesome.
And without a doubt they'll come up with costumes different from the 'gods' theme, I'm hoping to be positively surprised.
