Security Question
Balcu
Thank you Anet for taking your customer's concerns seriously. I like this, it should make it tougher for all the hackers and low lifes that steal peoples accounts.

Copy-paste it in and tell it to remember the login and character name, if you're that worried about it.

Lmao, read original post. No character accounts, you leave blank. Honestly sorry if anyone made a char on a new account and forgot the name. Support i guess lol.

That doesn't work if you log in to multiple accounts on one pc (like a main and a mule account). it remembers the last one you logged in to. So you end up entering it each time.

LOL, I just started a secondary account this morning at like 3 AM on no sleep. I sure as hell don't remember the name I used.
I do think this is a step in the right direction, even if the timing is pretty bad for me |
some people are just always ungrateful
having something is better than having nothing

Type your character names into a document or something and copy/paste it when you log in.

This security update is one of the more visible steps we've taken to address the issue. We're continuing to actively develop other measures, too (steps that are not as immediately obvious).

I've logged character names next to the account name.
I just hope support can give me a "free login" to my accounts, or just tell me one name.
I like this feature, and on the flip side I don't. Some warning would've been lovely.

Glorious. Excellent update guys.

However, I did find out that if using GW Multi Launcher it remembers the character name for whatever reason. (due to separate dat files maybe?). So i think I'll just use GW ML to launch my 2 accounts from now on. -password command works and it remembers all the other info. Then if anet addes a -character commmand, I can update my shortcuts to include that.

Too bad I created a LOT of accounts, back when the XTH was a steady source of (legal) income. Can't remember any of the names I gave the ZKey-earning placeholders on those accounts.
Then again, XTH is gone for good (in an attempt to save GW's economy, under the threadbare disguise of "technical problems"). So I most likely won't ever need them again.

Well... Sorry for the people who need to re-enter it every time. Multi-clienting ftw? ^^

I lost progress on a mission I would much rather not repeat again. 3 of my guildies were kicked in the last level of today's Z-bounty.
It's nice to have it, but an update of this nature (one requiring a full restart) should really have been announced ahead of time. I'm not sure if it was even possible to log back into the instance you were kicked out of, but it doesn't look like anyone in my alliance was able to.
Having a few hours notice would have saved some of us alot of time.

Used a correct password and character name for my secondary account, but kept telling me it was wrong. Tried so many times, all it does now is pop op with "connecting..." that naturally, doesn't connect.
Not only that, but it does the same thing with my main account, which I was logged into before trying the secondary one.

Regina!!! You guys going to add -character command sometime soon???

What a pain in the arse that would be. Copy and paste whenever I log in? blech!

I'd still do that over being hacked though.
I do remember all my character names everywhere, so this is no issue for me really.

Don't get me wrong. I like the added security for sure. No warning ahead of time from anet was a bit of an oops but I think I can understand why they might have done that. And GW ML remembers the info so I can always use that. Unless/until Regina finds out about the -character command, that's what my plan is.

Nice Job Anet. *Pat on back*
I don't understand how people don't remember their char names though O.o.

PS. Given the nature of this update... I guess that completely rules out the possibility of a WoW Armory type service cropping up at a future date. *sigh*

I knew that. Honestly. Not sure why I said GW ML remembers it as running it without GW ML also remembers it but only for the very last account that logged in.

Even if the NCsoft Master Hub account is broken into, this additional measure can buy the time needed to contact support and keep accounts from being stripped bare while support is locking the account and the true owner is proving ownership.
I appreciate this enough to make a "donation" and purchase the new costumes and show my support to ANET.
Thanks again

There is a "remember character name" box that you can tick. No need to re-enter it over and over.
|
Please give us separate checkboxes for the account name and the security answer. People who still want to remember both can still check both.

makes it annoying to switch between accounts >_<

Dunno if anyone else has had this happen. I sent a ticket in.
I switched to a mule account and traded some stuff then when i switched back to my other account it wouldn't get passed Connecting... at the login screen. I was on vent at the time and my internet was fine.
Dunno if this is part of the security or something where the same IP can't log into more then one account in a certain time frame and its halted. It isn't saying wrong info or anything, just Connecting...
Sent a ticket and hope this isn't anything serious. Just wondering if anyone else has had the problem.

Sweet, now all I have to do is avoid everyone in game so no one can see or know any of my character names...
I like that Anet is stepping up, since their overlords NCsoft refuses to on the other end.
To those who can't get into their accounts because of it too funny, thank you for the laugh.
People may complain but, I'm just happy the few people left on the GW team and the new volunteers of testers are working hard to continue the development of the game.

It's a good improvement, but log-in information can still be stolen with keyloggers. Players can always use the virtual keyboard that came with windows to enter log-in information.
Always remember: Change password every 2 hours, reformat your computer every 2 weeks and make sure you scan with malwarebytes full scan before logging in. Safest precaution to take vs. hackers. You can always buy a new hard-drive, don't risk losing your guild wars account! It's important that you put every effort into protecting your account even if it means spending money on new hard drive every 2 months or so

I actually like it BUT I think the Security Question would have been better
if it was say one you made like for example mothers or fathers name fav colour
place of birth something that only you would know ( and remember) not just a char name.
