A.net all I want this Wintersday...
RTSFirebat
...is to be able to buy the ORIGINAL Wintersday hat. Hell I'd paid £5 for it! Its just that damn good looking.
I'm sure plenty of other people would pay someone for it as well.

Please don't encourage more of these damn macro transactions. Teach Anet they need to provide actual game content if they want moar monies.

Wow, people are begging for micros. Not good.
Neo Nugget
Sell the Yule Cap? I don't think that's a good idea.
Selling it would make some people happy, I'm sure, but it would also make many people very frustrated as well.
Now that we can actually wear the hats as armor, I do wish that I had them on my primary account instead of the one I ditched a few years ago, but it's nothing I would pay for.

shoyon no offense to you but i think that u have got the wrong idea. Gw AND Anet are providing amazing content already for free. In case you haver not noticed the gw team are making GW2 which will be a good mmo just a gw is and they wont do wow monthly payment crap. however if you haven't realized they still have to pay those people working on the 2 gw's s micro transcations are perfectly acceptable as long as they don't give you an advantage in game.
However i do have to agree as a 4 year player with the original hats form all events i would be sincerely pissed of if you could buy them as it "you have to have been there" kinda of thing

Why can't it be like this:
No matter what year it is and what hat is being given, the only thing you must do is a (newly added) quest to get "The Missing Hats" which should take ~ 20 mins and then you can just talk to the festival hat maker and have access to all the hats.

Who said I was begging?
Anyways...
Well they do need to make money to keep the servers running one way or another. I think its easy for people to forget the amount of power, bandwidth and hardware that goes into maintaining this game.
If anything I'd love a chance to get a hat I missed.

If they can't keep the lights on without these macrotransactions, then obviously their initial business plan failed. And FYI, NCSoft is shelling out the money to produce GW2. As far as I'm concerned their resources are widely available as long as GW2 is on schedule. It's a slippery slope, and considering that once upon a time it was said GW would "never use microtransactions" I wonder what other changes they might have in their business plan that contradict their founding premises.
As far as the hats go, if they're made available again, it should be via a very difficult quest. It should not be another method for Anet to milk its' remaining scarce community. The game is dying slowly and painfully, no one will care if they're made available again. But many will care if Anet acts like any other greedy company.
II Lucky Charm II
Micro-transactions would be awesome if they can implement more and more items into the trade. I whole-heartedly agree with the op's idea.

yes shoyon ur points are interseting but the thing is they need the moemny to keep running the servers and such like. theres nothing wrong with micro transcations if you dont want them dont buy them.
sorry to the other guys but the thing with the original hat is that it is rare. if you were there from the start its yours.
Wow SHoyoine what that about going back to korea FYI NC soift started in korea and half of its games are korean. and lots of games do what she is suggesting * coughs* DDO,Lotro,Aldos,Alagon,CoH

I said ARENANET. ARENANET produced GW1 and manages it. ARENANET is producing GW2. ARENANET is its' own studio. It is OWNED and funded by NCSOFT, but it is not a korean gaming company that relies on microtransactions to bleed it's community for all its' worth. And I don't play those other games for the same reason. Often I find myself playing GW now only because what it was like when it FIRST released, for nostalgia purposes. And please spell my handle correctly.
Deatgs Corrupter
again shoyon get ur facts right: the actual buisness plan was to release a new full priced campaign every 6 months. however jeff strein and the team decided they wanted to radically change the guild wars so many loved so they decided they had to make a new game so as not to piss of the hardcore gw players.
they did want to keep this gw going and they need the money so they want the micro transcationg.
Although i bow to your greater knowledge on the whole ARENANET thing i must point out that it is the NCsoft store so technically u are in a hole and as NCsoft is korean they can do korean 'stuff'
oh yeah u screwed up your argument by saying NC soft funds areananet and then saying this should have no korean effect on the game

I want a cat ear helmet. I also want the dwayna get-up but I don't trust the store.

Ouuu, that would be cool. Maybe make it a seasonal thing? Like during the month of December they sell Wintersday hats and same goes for October with Halloweenie hats.... or whatever.

You're referring to the Yule Cap, right? I was lucky enough to be around in '05 to get one, and it is a marvelous hat. I intentionally did not get the '06 one because it's hideous. It looks like someone got in a tug-of-war match with their dog with the way it's stretched out. "Stylish" my ass.
I don't see the big deal about selling this particular thing. It's already in the game anyway and the only other way to get it would be a time machine. Now pardon me while I go bang my head against the wall for hearing about this "free" stuff that I've spent ~$200 on over the course of +4 years.

I'm not digging out the quote, but Anet decides what to do with its' own game, how to market, when to market, etc... Yes NCSoft has final say since they foot the bill, but they do not make the game-breaking decisions. Nor does NCSoft dictate what ANET puts in the in-game store.
And get your facts straight, Anet stopped the campaign every six months BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T KEEP IT UP. It was an unrealistic goal and they FAILED on achieving it. They barely pumped out NF. Even so, Gaile said they would not turn to microtransactions. They have, and regardless of circumstances, its a failure to keep their word. And just FYI, unless you have a look at their finance records you don't even know that they NEED them to keep the lights on. As far as I'm concerned they're just milking it.

And while they're at it, add the Divine Aura Pack for $19.95. Instant buy for me.
(I would like access to the witch hat... I wasn't around the first Halloween... The first Christmas I was busy with school.)
But I do have the Yule Cap with a Boner.

I think the key thing here is even though they are putting options out there for people to buy things (that do not give players advantages over others), they are OPTIONAL.
No-one is forcing anyone to buy any of it, so if people want to buy hats, costumes, whatever... let them.

Or........For people who are mad that they missed it and were here when they were given out, how about(even though it won't happen)
Just a quest in game to get the hat(s) you missed. These don't include ones that your account wasn't old enough to get, just the ones that you happened to miss. This way, there is more game content, and no microtransactions...

I'm all for either a long quest to unlock all the festival hats, or a "hat pack" in the store. Hell, why not both? There are only two areas I would like to see remain off-limits:
1. No functionally superior items for cash.
2. No "collector's edition" items for cash.
#1 happening would make me leave this game, #2 I just feel it's wrong to offer items you've rewarded CE buyers to everybody else. BTW, I do NOT own a CE of GW, So while I would love special dances and glowing hands, I should have spent the extra cash if it were that important to me.

The hats should never be made available to people who were not able to attend the festivals. They are souvenirs for attending, also they should stop giving away hats period. The time of the obligatory hat has passed. People need to have closure on the hat collection, let this wintersday be the end of the hat giveaways.

Or maybe I should just support the destruction and say sure why not put a complete hat pack for sell
complete mini pack
complete armor pack
complete weapon pack
complete titles pack
complete weapons mods and inscriptions pack with private merchant (you can sell them to other players)
level 20 pet pack
full HoM unlock pack (so new people to GW2 wont have to work hard to be a a disadvantage)
What else can be added in? just think with all this money the GW severs will out live us.

I'd like to have my tengu mask back that I deleted before the hat vendor; but I don't think it should be re-released either and I accept that it's lost forever.
Anyways I've said these same things in past threads about the same subject. I too agree with what Shadowspawn said, but it gives the newer players the same memento the older players had; and if they stopped it all together you would see way more of these threads.

I'd like to be able to get the witch hat, but if this year they give us a glowing nose (chaos nose) I think I'll be able to live without the hat

The Korean influence will be in full force for GW2. I suggest you get use to the micro-transactions business model.

i think paying for hats is a stupid idea. Why not just make gw p2p while you are at it? i think if anet need more money for gw now then they must have done something wrong. Now if they made a quest or allowed you to buy it with ingame gold(10k a hat) then i say yay. otherwise stop hyping micro! not all of us have their mommy and daddy buy stuff for us!
