Hi, my name is Cole and I have a question about the campaigns . But before that let me give you an introduction on my status:
So Before I have even started playing, I have been researching everywhere on everything you could imagine (even though I found GuildWarsGuru's Forum to be the best resource for almost all my questions). I have been looking up builds, styles, items, professions, you name it and have run across a few questions. Oh, by the way, I just bought the Guild Wars Trilogy and I am kinda new to Guild Wars but am not new to MMORPG's. Plus I am sort of leaning towards a 55-Monk for my first character. So, here is my question:
I have been reading some other posts and recommendations from other people and have heard a couple of times something like this: "do the campaigns in order because of the free skills you get in Prophecies." If you would like to see where I read something close to this, Click Here. So basically my question sums up to: Do you get to carry your skills over from one character in one campaign (lets say Prophecies) to character in another campaign (lets say Factions)? Or could it be that you can play with the same character in all the campaigns? Plus I also just vaguely remember reading about you can access areas from a completely different campaign if you bought the other campaign.
I don't know, so if anyone could help me and maybe some others in this matter, I know I would greatly appreciate it. And sorry if this question is already posted but I couldn't find it using the search feature on the forums here.
I Have A Couple Of Questions?

If you own the campaign then you can travel between those you own after the completion of a short quest. If you do all campaigns with the same character you keep everything, if you created the same prof again you would start from scratch in that campaign etc, (apart from Eye of the North where you must use a character that is not new).
Also a 55-Monk is a farming build only, as it provides no team support, (barring the old useless thing) and is only viable in certain areas, (unless you are very lucky/good you cannot survive in at least a reasonable number of areas), and with a team would not get the aggro to keep it alive, (as it requires attacks to have enough energy to cast).
If you need any more help just let me know

Considering you are not new to MMO's, why don't you just make a character you think you'll like, forget all about the builds and strategies posted on Guru and Wiki's, and try to enjoy the game with an open mind?
All professions are able to clear the game very well, and if you are into farming after playing some time, you will have plenty of opportunity for making another character geared to that goal.

Thank you both for your quick replies. I will take your advice Arduin, and just focus on the game, instead of worrying about what build is best. And to you Andrew Dunne, i appreciate your quick feedback as what you posted i had no clue about.
thank you both

Hi Cole and welcome to GW
What Arduin said, but also in GW nothing that you do with your char - apart from choice of primary porfession - is irrevocable. All the apects of your build can be changed at any time, you have more options as you gather them through the game.
Have fun

Second question makes no sense.

Luckily it does to me. I think...
At some point in any campaign (Prophecies, Factions or Nightfall) you are able to use a ship to transport your character to both of the two other campaigns if those are added to your account. You will enter that campaign about 1/3 in, and are able to adventure further on in that campaign. The earlier part of those campaigns can still be accessed, but offer limited to no rewards because those areas are considered low-level areas.
The only exception is the prelude area of the Prophecies campaign, which is called Pre-Searing Ascalon. No Factions or Nightfall character can neter that area, only Prophecies characters can. Also, Prophecies characters that exit Pre-Searing Ascalon can never return.
Your character will retain everything you've acquired in the other campaign, and you are free to travel back anytime by using the same boat.

Concerning availability of skills to multiple characters:
1. Learn a skill on PvE char #1 - that character, any PvP character and all heroes on the account have access to the skill.
2. PvE char #2 does not have access to the skill, but can learn it through use of a skill tome or will need to purchase the skill from a skill trainer.
In other words, each PvE character starts from scratch skill-wise, although you can take shortcuts through the use of tomes.
