Does anyone ever grow tired of the staffspam visuals?
Shriketalon
The battle begins, the sides clash in conflict, spells and swords meet in furious fervor! Spears sail overhead, arrows rain down, axe and hammer and dagger and scythe scream against one another.
And the staves and wands toss little balls.
With five of the ten classes relying on staves and wands, and the casters making up the majority of any given party in most builds, there is a whole lot of bubbles, motes of light, boring rocks, tiny fires, and green vomit being thrown around in any given fight. Most of the normal spell effects, meanwhile, like Fireball and Lightning Javalin get swallowed up in the parabolic arc of staffspam, a constant wave of little lights linking the caster group and their target together like a rainbow.
So I want to know: do the staff and wand visuals ever get on anyone else's nerves?
It's not something for which I have an answer, or even a suggestion. Just felt like asking the question, because sometimes it seems to get incredibly absurd. The fact that most of the casters use the same animations don't help.

I don't usually wand, i just blow shit up if i'm caster. Even when i do wand i don't sit and stare at it.

8/10. Not bad.
Honestly, most casters are going to be doing just that: casting. If you're getting tons and tons of the magic missile guys, you might be doing it wrong.

Unless you need to camp a 40/40 set why staff/wand ? Be brave (rly rly !!!) run a +5 armor spear and a tall shield

The only reason the physical weapons make cool noises and look flashy is because there is a skill activated with it.
Casters have spell animations and physicals have attack skill animations.

Or SOMEONE is doing it wrong. When I'm playing my Mesmer - which I do a lot - the only time I'm wanding is when I'm either waiting for skills to recharge or I'm low on energy. And that rarely happens in PvE unless I'm facing energy sucking bastards like Roaring Ethers and stuff. What I'm trying to say is that you'll see a lot more wanding from folks who have poor energy management, don't have much in the way of skill recharge boosts, or both.

I think the only staffspam (as you call it) that I like is for the sin thou I'v never seen any other melee use a staff :\ but ya I'm always casting as a um... caster

Your problem is obvious: Casters aren't there to auto attack with a wand/staff. That's why the animations suck. Instead, look at some of the neat casting animations, which is what you're supposed to be doing in the first place.

I think the opposite. I wish Guild Wars was a lot more animated and creative with it's attacks and spells. It's nice to know what an enemy or ally is casting without having to target them...

stickmasters ftw!
xD
but seriously, casters should be doing just that....casting!

I agree with whoever said that if you are seeing a lot of staff-spam then you must be doing something wrong. Only time I'm wanding or using the staff is usually when I'm out of energy

If you mean all the spell effects turning into a blob of light, I agree it's always been pretty poorly done. It would be interesting actually if someone made a texmod that tones down all magic effects, except for a few uber ones.

Well your post was well-written and made me laugh. Short answer: Yes, I agree with you. BUT, I'm usually too busy casting, or interrupting casting, to notice.

Sitting in your shield set is not very brave. In fact it is the very opposite of brave. True bravery is running a 15^50 wand on your monks for wanding on the spike.

Not particularly, even if there was excessive wanding, which I haven't noticed, different wands have different damage types, and different colored orbs to go along with them.
Call me superficial, but as long as the color of the orbs vary, meh.

Tell your casters to get shield sets and stop being bad.
